JAPAN DAY / Japan-Tag 2024, Real Japanese Culture in Düsseldorf Germany - 4K HDR Walking Tour

Welcome to Japan Day or Japan Tag / 日本デー in Düsseldorf, Germany! This is the largest Japanese cultural event outside of Japan, and this year it takes place on June 1st, 2024. Japan Tag draws hundreds of thousands of visitors, otakus, manga fans, and Japan enthusiasts from all over the world annually. Join me as I walk from the beginning of the event all the way to the Landtag, where our tour concludes.
This year, over 650,000 visitors came to enjoy a wide array of presentations and entertainment, including traditional music and dance performances, karaoke and cosplay contests, manga stands, origami and calligraphy lessons, kimono fittings, karate demonstrations, Japanese board games, and of course, delicious Japanese cuisine such as ramen, karaage, and takoyaki. Japanese initiatives, associations, and caterers showcased their offerings at around 90 stands spread across three stages along the Rhine embankment promenade up to the state parliament. For the first time, visitors could also try parkour on the lower Rhine wharf, navigating a ninja course with jumping, climbing, and balancing challenges. The organizers nearly doubled the stage program compared to previous years, featuring a mix of traditional culture, modern Japanese pop culture, and typical sports.
The grand finale of Japan Day, which you can see at the end of this video, is the authentic Japanese fireworks display that occurs every year. This year, it began around 11 pm and lasted about 25 minutes. Four years after it was initially planned, the fireworks were finally showcased on Japan Day under the theme "Gold medals and golden rain over Düsseldorf: Olympic splendor from Tokyo to Paris," creating a stunning spectacle in the sky above the city.
