When I was 5 (1964) my dad bought a brand new Jeep Wagoneer. It was the first full production year after the Willys Utility Wagon. I fel in love with Jeeps then and there. In the '70's, I discovered the older Utility Wagons and that was love at first sight. I was smitten. By '86, I was already divorced so treated myself to a 1960 Willys Wagon. We were a pretty hot item together in SoCal and went everywhere together. Even when I moved to Utah. She was stolen in '99. I found a '59 in Colorado for sale and have plans for pwr steering and other things. I'm an old guy now, but only feel at home in a Willys. In all these years, I've NEVER seen two alike. People always, always, build them to their own specifications. They are very special, personal and unique transporters with a face only a mama (or papa!) could love! In their day, they certainly weren't the most valued, or expensive wagons on the market. But they have increasingly become more valuable with time. Your Willys was treated like an old friend and given a chance of an upgrade many of us can only day dream about. Thank you so much for sharing that dream fulfilled so we can see some of the possibilities available out there. It is just more validation of the old saying that, REAL Jeeps are built - not bought! God bless in a project that is always on-going!
You are so right! Your Amazing experiences growing up are a huge part of what define your relationship with old Willy’s wagons.
We feel the same way. When we ride around in “Ol’ Ed” with our 8yr old and our 14yr old the driving experience melts together with what ever that moments adventure is and bond those things together into our memories.
It’s these memories that cumulatively grow our love for our wills wagon.
As you said, no two are alike, they have a personality. Unique vehicles you can develop a relationship with.
Jeremy Clarkson explained our relationships with vehicles well in this short RUclips video:

I just purchased a 1958 & a 1959 Willys Wagoner! The 59 is completely stock and the 58 has a 302 V8 , they both have rust in the floorboards but the rest of the body’s are solid! I watched your video and absolutely loved what you have done to your 58! Time to get to work! Thanks for the great video!
That’s awesome to hear! Dan loves his Willys and enjoys working on it too. Have you heard of the annual Willys Rally just outside of Moab? Congrats on your wagons!
@@KCandtheOverlanders
That’s awesome, I will have to check the rally out! I live in Kanab Utah , we are 1 1/2 hours east of St George and have some amazing trails in our area!
Great Video of a Willys Overland upgrade. I am sure this was an expensive task to undertake but lets face it, its built to your specification and sometimes thats almost priceless. Thx for the vid.
Nice overview of your Willys wagon ,I have a 49 4 wheel drive wagon that I’ve been driving for over 30 year’s and I love it ,it goes anywhere I want and is a blast to drive
That’s awesome you’ve had it for so long! Dan just loves his too.
We love our 51 Willys Panel mounted on a 92 4Runner with 3.0L running gear. Restomods are the way to go.
So nice! I’d love to do the exact same thing to a Willy’s Overland.
That Willy's is a thing of pure awesomeness !
We concur! Especially Dan! It was definitely a labor of love but worth it :)

In 37min we didn’t even get to hear you fire it up! Thank you for the walk-around. I’ll probably refer to this for elements in my own Willys overland wagon build. Especially the safety and ride comfort aspects.
Omg! You are so right! It’s been so cold up here we didn’t even think to fire it up! Stay tuned... when we get a break in the weather we will send something out :)

Here is a short video of the Willy’s on Red Cone Trail in Colorado :)
A RUclips video without loud background music would be great.
@@tjballard87 unfortunately the bumper bars were not on the Willy’s when we picked it up :(
Yeah, I saw the newer video from CarCraft Classics. That is unfortunate.
Awesome wagon. I’ve got a 53 bone stock. The engine is the F head 134 hurricane 74 horsepower but pretty decent torque. I do need to correct you on top speed though. Definitely not 40 mpg. It’ll cruise at 60 mph no problem. I have a warn overdrive in mine, and with no grade it can cruise at 70 mph. Stock jeeps of this era are way more capable than people think.
I had a 47 Willys wagoneer, loved it, lot's of fun.
Sweet you guys have saved a piece of automotive history, as well as creating an awesome vehicle , done to perfection !
Thank you for your comment! Made our evening!
Awesome willys wagon..stay safe stay fun👍
Glad you enjoyed the Willys video and thank you for commenting! :)
This thing is perfect, I love the mix of modern with nostalgia. Hats off to you guys!!
I see you have lots of adventure videos
Going to open them up sometime to see how the Jeep wagon performs
Thank you kindly…your sharing is a good thing and welcomed immensely

Beautiful, nice rig
Great build, thanks for the walk through. I currently have a 62 Willys wagon with a 351w but it's tied and brakes are terrible. I'm considering getting a 05 Rubicon LJ. Does the frame need to be stretched at all to fit the Wagon? Wheelbase appears to be an inch off. You mentioned 1/2 inch in the video. I'm from MN but moved to St George UT and the wagon came along for the ride.
I had a GREAT time with you guys and Zeus Off Road on the 4Xploring trip to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon! The "orange plungery things" are are RCV chromoly axle shafts. They are the best!
lol on the plungery things! and yes, the north rim trip was amazing! Dan has been working/customizing our new Ford Tremor with Zeus off Road so look for some videos on that build in the next few weeks or so! Thanks for subscribing! :)
and just talking with Dan... thank you on the “RCV” correction! 🤪
@@KCandtheOverlanders They are "constant velocity" (thus the CV) joints. They are MUCH stronger than traditional U-joints. They're spendy, but so is breaking down and needing a tow off the trail otherwise.

Such a sweet ride!! 😎 🇺🇸
Nice build! 👍🏾
Glad you like it! :)
I have a '50 Jeep Delivery project out back just waiting to be Loved on!
Great build with much thought put into the parts selection. Any thought to padding the bars especially in the back. In a roll over or side impact anyone in the back seat might be able to strike the exposed bars as the back seat seems not to have any shoulder straps unless it has a 4 point accessory harness. I really had to look for anything to comment on. I would “steal” everyone one of your ideas as I think your have reached perfection. Good for you.
You did a magnificent, well designed and thought out job here
Great safety and most unusual power and gearing features
Also height and wheel size wise : magnificent
Really cool
The 50’s style is MOST appealing, classic and gives great joie
Really a fantastic configuration and spacious
(nice that you clearly mention your collaborators in support❗️)
Wld Love to own one very similar
(all the way from the Fairest Cape Winelands down South Afrika…🥂)
(have subscribed…not to fear😳❗️)
All of the best

Nice Truck... I would have Old School looking headlights though...
Wow, I like the truck! I have a 57' Willy's truck. An you are so close to me, White Bear Lake! Also Chevy powered, just needs a few things. Like brakes!! LOL 🤣!
That is very unique and impressive! 👌
Glad you like it! A lot of thought and planning when in to it.
I love it. All the right parts and still kept the nostalgia look. I got a 64 p-up truck but looking for a wagon.
I have a '51 Willy's Overland I would love to restore to this quality!
It’s been a labor of love for Dan!
That is just amazing and its my all time favorite truck.
Awwwww!!!
Parabéns por terem uma ótima rural muito linda
Thanks for making this!
You are welcome!
amazing build! love it!
It’s been an ongoing labor of love for Dan! Thank you :)
I also have a '58 Willys with an old Chevy 283. I would like to do a frame swap also for the same reason you guys did, parts availability. These old Willys are real head turners. EVERYWHERE you go people wanna see it !!
You can still get parts for these very easily. They share most parts with a cj5
Thank for the build video!!
Great walkthrough! Thanks for sharing!
You are welcome! Thanks for your comment!
Killer Wagon upgrade! Curious from a new owner perspective, what’s a budget for a similar build? $30k? I too am look to make reliable upgrades and give it our own fun personality.
Nice job on the jeep guys !! I myself have a 1978 CJ7 !!
My husband Dan drove a 78’ CJ7 back in college!
That brings back Great memories of driving around with the doors off.
@@KCandtheOverlanders Mine is on its second reincarnation , it was my Dads and I helped him put a fiberglass body on it 45 years ago and i painted it for him . He then after many years gave it to ne I then put a 4 inch lift ,33/12.50/15 s on it , headers dual exhaust and a few other up grades. 9 years ago I was T boned in it and totaled it out , bent the frame and messed up the body . I then bought a Throttle down Customs frame ,new fiberglass body and again many more up grades ,its been on the back burner for too many years I need to finish it !!!
@@ALLANROACH1 Wow! What a life and history your jeep has. It deserves everything! Thank you for sharing your story - made our day and keep us posted! :)

Hi I love you guys
Hi Dan Where did you get your roll bar? I have a 1956 I am working on and thought it would be important to add one.
Willys Lover
We are too! ❤️
One of the best Willys builds and videos ever! Thank you!
Several years ago I was inspired by Chrysler's concept Willys wagon to install my Willys pickup body on a low-mileage stretched TJ chassis. It's been a great resto-mod vehicle for parades and casual trail use, but I need to upgrade the axles, wheels and tires to tackle the more challenging trails around my hometown of Ouray, Colorado (aka "The Jeep Capital of the World") I love the stance of your Wagon. You nailed it! Would you please share the width of your Dynatrac front axle (wms-wms) and the brand, offset and backspacing of your wheels? Thank you so much! And if you ever get to Ouray, let's do some Willys Wheeling together!
Hi Mark! Thanks for you message! I’ll have Dan get back to you on the technical jeep stuff! By chance do you read Flatfendering Afcionado?
And yes! We’ll take you up in Ouray! We love that area!
@@KCandtheOverlanders , I am a member of the Old Willys Forum, but I have not seen the Flatfendering Aficionado. I will have to look it up! Also, do you know if there is a way to personal message through RUclips? Or maybe we could use Facebook? I'd like to privately give you my contact info so you can contact us when you get to Ouray. My wife and I would love to take our '50 Willys restomod Pickup on some Ouray area trails with you and your family and your gorgeous '58 Wagon. I'd also like to share some photos of our Willys build with you. I look forward to answers on my technical questions from Dan. Thanks! Mark
Hi Mark! If you do Instagram message Dan at daniel.campo
If not let me know and we can figure something else out! :)
@@KCandtheOverlanders , via Instagram messenger I sent some photos of our overlanding rigs, including our Willys-Truck-on-a-TJ-chassis to Dan. With luck, he will have time to help me by sharing a couple of your build specs. I hope he shares the photos with you of our rigs in the wild too! ;)
You guys are adorable! 🤙😜
Lol! Thanks Jace! Did Dan send you the tic toc video of the Willy’s on Red Cone? You may have to take credit for filming! ;)
What is the back seat from? I have a ‘51 I’m building right now
Cool wagon. I must have missed the details on where to find a set of wheels like those ? Thank you.
Once again, Zeus Off Road did the wheel and tire package.
Love the build! Nice work. CTS seats are 21 inches wide, the console is 9 inches. Your seat configuration is wider than the original by 4 inches. How did you mount your seats?
We will take a picture this morning to show you ;)
@@KCandtheOverlanders Hi, Looking for seat mount pics. Went to your site. Nothing yet.
Ahhhh yes! Stay tuned!

For you Mark! Thanks for being so patient!
looking... front pan hard bar .on axle.. does not have a full nut.. ? threads sticking out ?
One other thing.. you talk about reliability, you can’t get much more reliable than a simple carburetor and points distributor. You can very easily fix them right on the trail. No sensors to fail, no electronics to fail, just pure simplicity and serviceability. Parts are still very readily available for cj5 and wagons. The more complex you make it, the harder it will be to find the problem and fix it. Just something to think about. Modern does not always mean better.
Number 62 !!! ,, What about A/C ? Do you drive it from Minnisota to Grand Canyon ? How does it drive at highway speed?
We can cruise at 75-80 mph all day with one hand on the wheel ;) And yes it has AC.
@@KCandtheOverlanders Thank you for your reply . This is an awesome vehicle!
Nice jeep. Definitely know how to spend money tho.
My is 1956.
تحفهw❤
Great build!1 I have a ‘62 and love it! Do your selves a favor in the community and stop calling it a “Willies”, it’s a “Will-is” and drop the apostrophe.
Very nice. What is the rear seat from?
It was already there! We just had it reupholstered
I bet you bought some parts from my neck of the woods. Cazadero, Ca right?
At least for the body parts, rubbers, bezels, etc.
Willy’s America?!
nice wagon. don't like the tail lights at all, looks totally tacked on. May I suggest you put in a bunch of tiny leds embedded in the vertical member. Like you can't see them much at all unless they are on. cheers. btw, I have a 53 Panel and 49 truck
I'm thinking of buying a 52 Willy's Wagon and making it into an EV. What are your thoughts on that?
Very cool, Dan and I discussed an EV conversion for the future. Currently we don’t feel there is enough extended range options for our type of travel. Please keep us posted on your potential build!
@@KCandtheOverlanders Will do! Thank you for the quick reply,
What is the brand of headlights? I'm looking to upgrade to something useful.
JW Speaker headlights :)
What is the long stick shift for?
It’s the transmission shifter :)
Is your transmission standard or automatic with a cooler?
Abbey wouldn't have ever used this vehicle. Walking was his deal!
What was the cost to do a build like this?
About 75,000 😬
I would not of used a clutch transmission.
I would have used a Turbo 350 to a Chevrolet stroker 383

Pronounced "Willis," not "Willeez."
Then they need to get rid of the “y” in Willys.
@@redman840 John North Willys
Willys (pronounced / ˈwɪlɪs /, "Willis") was a brand name used by Willys-Overland Motors, an American automobile company, founded by John North Willys.
Founded: 31 May 1908. So NO, they don't "need to get rid of the “y” in Willys."
