  • A while back I made a video about rebuilding the transfer case on the X5 when it chews up the front axle shaft splines, but I wasn't able to film the step by step on it because it was very windy where the car was stranded plus I just didn't have time. Well... I had to redo the job because the transfer case was leaking! Arg. In this video series I will show you exactly why it leaked and exactly what not to do so that you don't get leaks if you ever change your chain or buy a new gear to transplant into your transfer case.
    You should definitely look at my previous video for more details on sealing up the transfer case properly plus information about the chain:

    Impressive to say the least. Im trying to sort a yet unknown transfer case issue on a 2004 e83 x3. First I need a thorough diagnosis but considering a rebuild. Thanks for the Helpful vids 50skid!

    thanks for the posted keep coming. I got a stupid question 03 x5 3.0...the front differential took a went. The suv right now won't go forward or reverse. I can feel the front differential is holding it..I can't get the nuts on the drive shaft out...can I cut off the front driveshaft so I can move the car..since the front differential ain't good. Do I need to look at other things in the car that could have went bad cuz of this issue

    Hi, I'd like to ask you, does e53 part of drive shaft can be fix to e70, for example the center bearing support?

    Good video. I have checked the tc and the tc is good, but the calibration faulty and code 54c8 resistor class. 4x4, abs and brake is always light on when start (not in contact position). Could you please any advise?
    Many thanx

    Brooooo can Incorrectly installing front cv axles on these cause the transfer case to lock? Or drive shaft? Casue I just had axles replace and the car was lik stuck in neautral

      I push on the gas pedal and the drive shaft exploded

    You can remove the transfer case without dropping the exhaust. The flexible aluminum floor cover will come out if you remove the nuts and a couple of exhaust hangers. I done it because it saved me from breaking bolts on my exhaust a couple of them were pretty rough looking and I knew they would strip or break. My vehicle was a 2003 X5 3.0

      Yep, couple of ways to do things. I removed it because, being in California, it isn't a problem to do so. Thanks for contributing!

    What brand impact driver are you using?

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  8 лет назад

      +Dennis Canon I have a Milwaukee 3/8" impact wrench to match my 1/2" one. I got the 1/2" one because it had the most power out of all the ones available, however I love my Makita impact driver more just 'cause. Maybe someday I'll get the 3/8" Makita impact wrench and sell the Milwaukee.

    Have you tackled the oil pan gasket on your E46 yet?

      +clabcon Working on it now.

      Do you ever lose your temper? You always appear calm in your videos, like auto from Bav Auto. If it was turns out to be the rear main seal, then how would you feel?

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  8 лет назад

      +clabcon I would put it off for even longer than I put off the oil pan gasket, lol. Sure I get mad, but those parts wind up on the editing floor.

      At least you would be able to replace all of your transmission fluid, whilst you were there!

    I'm looking at a 2000 bmw x5 4.4l, do you think they will have more issues at @125k miles? the couple selling it doesn't drive it much. I think they're scared of all the horror stories about parts failing on X5 (especially the trans and the transfer case) It seems to be a nice car but researching the reliability of it seems worst than the domestic models (Jeep, Ford)

    • @50sKid
      @50sKid  8 лет назад

      +Arthur Esclamada I think it's in the same realm as a Jeep or a Ford, but I can't really say for sure. I think most people balk because BMW repair costs are always so inflated because it's considered a luxury car, but the repairs are no more complicated than any other vehicle. If you're concerned about reliability, buy a Honda or Toyota.
