Wonderful video and great reaction. You do have to watch All is full of love, this is by far her most haunting song and beautiful video. And of course Yoga is the most beautiful song she ever wrote and an hymn to friendship. Anyway, greetings from Iceland and next time i run into Björk on the arbour i'll let her know about this video.
Please react to more of her videos, she has so much more to offer that so much better than these 4 although these are classics but she has a vast array of amazing tracks 🙏😀 Love you reactions ✌️
Pagan Poetry is my favourite Bjork song by a mile. It's devastatingly powerful. You should listen to the album that's from, Vespertine. It's so so powerful.
@@davidgermain Also the music with the music video is actually better than the album for some reason. Its quite frustrating, you have to watch the music video to get the good version of the song.
Hyperballed has always resonated with my experience as an autistic person trying my damndest to mask in the right ways so that I don't make those around me unnecessarily uncomfortable. Radical self acceptance is the goal these days 💜 Hope you are well out there.
Fun Fact: Venus As A Boy was featured in the soundtrack to the film, Leon The Professional. An odd choice of placement, but somehow it kinda works. Yes, you WERE seeing exactly what your brain thought it was seeing in the video for Pagan Poetry. That is all I will say, other than Bjork was the star of the video in question.
You need to do a full reaction to her album "Vespertine" where the song Pagan Poetry comes from. That entire album is an ethereal experience, especially the many songs that have sections where the strings and choir swoop in. For me its like the heavens opening and angels singing down to me whenever I listen to that album. Best album of the 2000-2009's in my humble opinion.
I'm surprised "Human Behavior" wasn't on this. It's such a creative, mesmerizing video and the song is incredibly catchy. The hip-hop group Hieroglyphics even sampled it for their song "Let it Roll" I know it's hard to choose just 4
After her departure from The Sugarcubes, an absolutely amazing band, her first and second albums proved incredibly influential in the pop world. So when you hear similarities, they probably started with Björk. She has also written and produced for other artists.
Ah Björk... there was a time when all the boys were in love with her, with her talent, with her voice, with her petite figure, with her beautiful green eyes and fairy little Inuit face. I wished I were Björk ^^ I was a bit jealous but as a fan myself, I really couln't begrudge them their good taste !
Awesome. Hyperballad is my favorite Bjork song, Birthday from her time with the Sugarcubes 2nd). It's such a great mix of her voice and instrumentation. Pagan Poetry is mesmerizing.
Back when MTv was about music, "Pagan Poetry" was on rotation in 2000s. It was contrasting with many other songs and yet added that mistyness and a touch of raw talent.
Congratulations on watching four Bjork tracks and not falling into a three-hour rabbit hole of analysis! Not an easy task, although some of her later videos... Heavens! (Pagan Poetry is the edge of the precipice). Speaking of precipices, 'the ideation of wanting to unalive yourself' - outstanding!
I haven't watched a ton of her vids but I was around when she 'appeared' on the scene and remember her sound. Now, much older, each time I hear and see her I find her genius more and more engaging. She's the David Byrne of pagan Icelandic postmodernism. Some of the documentaries about her are mind blowing, as is she.
Have you watched any Sugarcubes stuff yet? That was her band she was in that introduced her to the world. The songs Birthday and Hit both have videos. Also, if you want to hear Björk do straight-up Iceland Jazz, she has an album with an Icelandic jazz trio called Gling Glo. I don't understand anything she's singing, but I love it!
One could easily argue that Björk is the artist of her generation A voice as good as any, writing talent as good as any, as stylish as anyone, as innovative as anyone She's utterly unique
So Happy you're watching Bjork Videos ☺️☺️. I will say that , Hyperballad is actually around 6 mins long and this is actually an Abridged version that also added her live vocals during the Verse and went to the Album track sound in the Chorus . If you ever get a chance to listen to the Album cut you will enjoy the ride. I agree with the George Michael reference 💯. Pagan Poetry (from the album,Vespertine) incorporates Micro Beats (lil sounds of everyday things ) throughout the entire album 🤯🤯💎. The song is about her hesitance to give into a new love after a painful divorce from her 1st husband. The video incorporates actual sex video of her and further husband to be, Matthew Barney (he had been a collaborator in previous projects of hers, so they already had a base friendship) they made it visually abstract but if you rewatch it You will realize what you're seeing 😳🤭🤭😉. LASTLY. That Dress in Pagan Poetry was created specifically for her by her Longtime Friend, Frequent Collaborator and Amazing Designer, Alexander McQueen 💜🙏
So glad you're doing Bjork.. I've been on such a Bjork kick lately! Check out Atopos (From her album Fosora). The instrumentation, and production are amazing, the lyrics are timely and perfect :)
hey :) fantastic choices and reaction. Thx regarding Hyperballad I recall searching it up on Bjork's website and got it from there that she based the song on an article she read suggesting that when two people fall in love and have sex their bodies produce hormones to keep them addicted to each other, but those hormones in humans wear off after 2 or 3 years and it's left to the couple to work on the relationship without the addiction, it's as if nature is creating this addiction to help get over the bad things in each other if possible but then it's up to us. Sooooo, in the song Bjork's way of vitalizing herself and the relationship is this morning meditation imagining things or herself falling off the mountain, just as meditative thoughts, and nothing else. Such is the creativity of Bjork to do this song out of a scientific research she once came across!!!!!! sorry for the long comment but I knew this and felt like sharing it. cheers :)
Thanks for this interesting reaction. In the late-90s I bought a VHS tape (still a perfectly workable format then) of Bjork's solo-album videos to date, called ‘Volumen’: an excellent compilation of her collaborations with major directors of the day, and beautiful audio-visual encapsulation of her output to date. ‘Hunter’ was the last track on it, but I believe Volumen was later re-released with additional material. And just musically-speaking... right from her Debut Bjork bridged underground club and more commercial scenes, and throughout the 90s, whenever she released a single it came out in multiple versions with numerous ‘b-side’ remixes, ranging from mildly-tweaked variations to full-on, deranged, art-damaged electro-deconstructions. (These are really collectible now.) A track like ‘Hyperballad’, my favourite of the ones reviewed here, is a good example; you could have heard this gently-pumping song in a mainstream radio context during the day - and a much harder, deeper, longer version down a London rabbit-hole later the same night...
Once again a lovely reaction to a master of combining music & visuals. She has a fine collection of music and you have just seen to tip of the iceberg. Your should try Oceania, Bachelorette, All is Full of Love and Earth Intruder, for no other reason then why not.
I think it is the first time Ive watched Its Oh so quiet since I watched (and rewatched) Crazy Ex Girlfriend, and now I definetly see there is homage to this video and Bjørk persona in this mv. Pagan Poetry is my favorite song and mv, and I listen to Hyperballad all the time. I also recommend Hunter a lot! I remember listening to it while driving home on a dark winterroad in norway. It was hauntingly beautiful.
So excited for this, my friend. Hmm, what can I say about Bjork ? (Beeyerk) Listening to her music now, yet also hearing it for the first time in its Debut, (Pardon the pun) I think that she is one of those artists you can say was truly ahead of her time. She really doesn’t have any bad songs. Amazing poetic songwriting and stellar production with unique musical ambiance, especially for the early 1990’s. Really looking forward to future Bjork reactions, and watching you go down this rabbit hole of beauty and oddity.
Great reaction! I love Pagan Poetry its the one song that hooked me into the rest of her music! You gotta do another one of these and have : Play dead, Hidden place, All is full of love , Oceania (really interesting all the instruments were mouthed rahzel from roots is even on it you gotta hear it)
also: Hyperballad (Michel Gondry), Venus as a Boy (Sophie Muller), Pagan Poetry (Nick Knight) and It's oh so quiet (Spike Jonze) are all amazing directors! Sophie is a frequent collaborator with Sade, Kylie, Gwen Stefani...
listen to bjork's music is such an experience! unravel, bachelorette, innocence, i miss you, wanderlust, triumph of a heart, hunter, big time sensuality and so many others amazing tracks! pagan poetry is my favorite ever!
Björk really is one of a kind. I think you either like her music or not. I am not a huge fan of her music tbh, but like… She’s inspiring and I am a fan of her passion and creativity. And she’s just very beautiful. I do love her voice.
In 1988 I bought a 1989 Chevrolet Beretta... It had a cassette player and Life's Too Good by the Sugarcubes was the first record I ever played in my car .. I truly believe that if you listen to Life's Too Good all the way through, you'll understand Bjork... And obviously listen to her debut album called Debut LOL... I played both probably more than any other CDs/albums/tapes in my life
The reason she is cooking eggs in the Venus vid is that its based on a book she read (a filthy book haha) called The Story of the Eye where eggs are used
Absolutely love your analysis and comments on these ones - you articulate so wonderfully your response and feelings to the lyrics, production, presentation and mood of each clip! Please do more Bjork clips! Also - may I recommend Goldfrapp! Who are from a similar late 90s early 00s period to these clips
As someone who typically listens to more punk and darkwave stuff, I absolutely adore Björk. You should definitely check out videos from The Sugarcubes if you get the chance. They're definitely a bit more on the wacky side in comparison to her solo stuff, but just as great imo! Hit, Birthday, Coldsweat and Regina are all wonderful tracks that really showcase Björk's vocals
Great reaction! "Pagan poetry" is my favourite, too! Like you said: "disturbing and mesmerizing". Have you seen "Dancer in the Dark"? If not, then do, but brace yourself ...
people have definitely mentioned the pagan poetry sex videos but i didnt see anyone mention that the dress is actually attached to her a pierce her body is SEVERAL places, maybe i just missed people mentioning it
I can't remember the name but there is a beautiful video that features robots on an assembly line who fall in love. It sounds weird but it is one of the most touching things I've ever seen. Maybe your other viewers can tell you the name.
I actually think hyperballad is not as dark as you think... the imagery is startling for sure, but that's Bjork's mind... I've always thought it's a love song which contemplates mortality while being life affirming and darkly funny.
You have done wonderful work covering so many artists ( I adore Bjork). Alas you still haven't covered David Bowie though I noticed, which is a little surprising considering how many of these other artists he inspired and the artistic range and bredth of his music/videos/style.
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude My sincere apologies mate. Whoops! how did I overlook them? (RUclips algorithm strikes again). I'll go and check em out sir! thankyou kindly.
Apologies for the three week belated comment, however, Bryson my friend, this video is irrefutably one of your greatest videos; from your clearly sincere appreciation of Bjork's music, to your initial reactions and general commentary. Bjork is simply a beautifully exotic, undeniably unique artist - a magnificent, stylistically and gorgeously versatile gifted artist who is truly an Icelandic princess possessing spectacular vocalization.
Keep them Björk videos coming. I suggest reacting to COCOON. Its from Vespertine, the album that includes PAGAN POETRY. Love your channel. Can’t say it enough ❤❤
Bjork might have been inspired by George Micheal but then again like Madonna who's too say George like Madonna wasn't inspired by Bjork 😀 I mean all three were pretty popular in there fields and them bumping into each other from time too time was not uncommon in fact I think Bjork wrote a song for Madonna because she was a big fan of Bjork music George don't no yet but I wouldn't put it past Bjork and her magical power too create and connect with others of the musical universe 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇😀 Althow now she is really out there in her most extreme and dark and most creative and bizarre imagery I have ever seen 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇 But that's who she always was and continues too be a artist who refuses too be boxed in by any mainstream music industry 😀😃🙂🙃😊 She literally kicks the box too the corner everytime it gets near and changes and morphs like no other 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇😀😃 Bjork is definately something truly out if this world Period 😀😃🙂🙃😊 lol your reaction too her 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇 If you wantvyou can always listen or react too her Sugarcube Days when she was in that band and the world got a precursor of what was too come 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇😀 And She was Amazing then 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇😀😃🙂 And now we'll she's just going intergalactic 😀😃🙂🙃😊😇
Ohh Bjork, I remember being obsessed with her during my teenage years.. she is unique and ahead of time.. there's something about Pagan Poetry that feels so sad yet at the same time you just can't stop listening to it because it is beautiful. Few suggestions from her are: Hunter Stone milker Hidden Place Possibly Maybe All is full of love Isobel Big Time Sensuality Thank you for the great work my friend! :)
One of the most underrated Bjork songs is Declare Independence. A lot more angst than her normal music, she got banned from China for performing it there and saying "Free Tibet." This live video is a great one, the audience is holding Tibetan flags: ruclips.net/video/jOP1C0nepLs/видео.html
There's not a single music video from Björk not worth checking out. You're always getting something very creative and strange, so you should keep these going until you've covered every single one. And not just for the videos themselves, but for the music too, ofc.
I hope it's not the slightest bit offensive, but if it's not ok to say things like that, please do tell. I'm quite surprised you haven't mentioned being Venus as a boy yourself. Because it's all about beauty, sensitivity, finding that way to charm and create. And for me that's pretty much you
Oh my friend, Hyperballad, not a "house" track, it was pure Electronica and yes, Pagan Poetry IS a masterpiece, and Its Oh so Quiet, was a musical in Bjorks mind since she Loves musicals. Watch her movie Dancer in The Dark (you will Love it). Please react to her other videos: Hunter, Who is it?, Black Lake, Bachelorette (masterpiece), StoneMilker, Joga (her best song), Hidden Place, All is Full of Love and Atopos (her newest).
Also if you're gonna do another Bjork compilation video. Ya might include the songs 'Hit' or 'Birthday' from when she was in 'The Sugar Cubes' (prior to branching out on a solo career) and 'Possibly Maybe' or 'Big Time Sensuality' . Oh, and if you're a 'Walking Dead' fan.... 'Daryl Dixon' (Norman Reedus) is in her video 'Violently Happy'
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude oh lol i didnt know you had already done a reaction to im still going through all your videos i just started with my favorit on3s first lol
What many people don't realize is that the distorted imagery you see in the Pagan Poetry video is actually a sex tape that Bjork filmed with her partner at the time for use in the music video. Just another of the many things that sets Bjork apart from other artists. And if you want to see Bjork in a musical, watch "Dancer in the Dark". She plays the main character. She plays a woman with degenerative vision loss who is working to save money to get surgery for her son who is destined to suffer the same fate. It's an amazing movie, but be warned that it's absolutely devastating. Make sure you are ready to be sad.
Wish I could make a suggestion but so many artists I want to recommend have their songs chopped down so short for music videos... or have no videos for these songs. But... if you haven't heard these yet, make sure you hear these in your spare time soon! (Trust me, these are legendary) : Lamb - "Cotton Wool" or "Cottonwool" (5-minute version) Hooverphonic - "Inhaler" (5-minute version) Broadcast - "The Book Lovers" and "Echo's Answer" and "Lunch Hour Pops" Portishead - "It Could Be Sweet" Sneaker Pimps - "6 Underground" (3-minute 54-second version) GusGus - "Starlovers" and "Very Important People" and "Desire" Poe - "Angry Johnny" Leftfield - "Original" (6-minute version)
I dunno why, but I've always felt like Hyperballad was kinda like ultimate girl power. All humans make sacrifices in this life to have what they want. This character knows exactly how to deal with her mind in the morning, so she can feel safe up on the mountain with her lover. I may be coming at this from a male viewpoint or whatever, but I've always found this song to be amazingly romantic. I'd love someone to make this sacrifice, for me just as I'd do for her. Super hot. LoL
Sorry guys, I had to partially obscure the "Venus as a Boy" video because it kept getting blocked!
Wonderful video and great reaction. You do have to watch All is full of love, this is by far her most haunting song and beautiful video. And of course Yoga is the most beautiful song she ever wrote and an hymn to friendship.

Her manic/maniacal persona in Pagan Poetry once the camera 'clears' is the most startling and intensely personal performance I've seen in any media.

It's So Quiet is an older jazz big band standard that most likely has been in a musical. She owns it though.
I love to see her experiment with all the genres she wants🥰❤️🔥

I actually think hyperballad is not as dark as you think... the imagery is startling for sure, but that's Bjork's mind... I've always thought it's a love song which contemplates mortality while being life affirming and darkly funny.
You have done wonderful work covering so many artists ( I adore Bjork).
Alas you still haven't covered David Bowie though I noticed, which is a little surprising considering how many of these other artists he inspired and the artistic range and bredth of his music/videos/style.
Yes! Definitely David Bowie, he's Super Genius! 😎🤟
I've done 3 David Bowie videos, but I do plan to cover him more in the future. 😊
Thank you so much!! 😊
@@PancakeMarshmallowDude - Always welcome, hope you are having a great week!
He’s Venus as boy. He believes in beauty. ❤ do “bachelorette” you won’t regret it.
Keep them Björk videos coming. I suggest reacting to COCOON. Its from Vespertine, the album that includes PAGAN POETRY. Love your channel. Can’t say it enough ❤❤
Thank you! Will do!
Yes, Bedtime Story was written by Bjork or her team for Madonna
Ohh Bjork, I remember being obsessed with her during my teenage years.. she is unique and ahead of time.. there's something about Pagan Poetry that feels so sad yet at the same time you just can't stop listening to it because it is beautiful.
Few suggestions from her are:
Hunter
Stone milker
Hidden Place
Possibly Maybe
All is full of love
Isobel
Big Time Sensuality
Thank you for the great work my friend! :)
Thank you for watching!
I hope that you watch videos for 'Human Behaviour,' Big Time Sensuality,' and 'Isobel.'
Pagan poetry . Great song and the video is awesome . The beginning of the video is a real sex tape of bjork and her ex husband .
Excelente tú reacción 😃😃
A force of nature.
Hyperballad is not the album version by the way
"It's oh so quiet" is not a Björk song, it is actually an old jazz standart that she likes and wanted to pay hommage to.
Please watch All Is Full Of Love
There's not a single music video from Björk not worth checking out. You're always getting something very creative and strange, so you should keep these going until you've covered every single one. And not just for the videos themselves, but for the music too, ofc.
precisely
I hope it's not the slightest bit offensive, but if it's not ok to say things like that, please do tell.
I'm quite surprised you haven't mentioned being Venus as a boy yourself. Because it's all about beauty, sensitivity, finding that way to charm and create. And for me that's pretty much you
Wow, thank you so much! You are too kind. ♥️😊
Army of Me is her best song lol
Interesting commentary!
In go through all this BEFORE you wake me up.
Thank You!
You should try her song army of me its amazing

(Trust me, these are legendary) :
Lamb - "Cotton Wool" or "Cottonwool" (5-minute version)
Hooverphonic - "Inhaler" (5-minute version)
Broadcast - "The Book Lovers" and "Echo's Answer" and "Lunch Hour Pops"
Portishead - "It Could Be Sweet"
Sneaker Pimps - "6 Underground" (3-minute 54-second version)
GusGus - "Starlovers" and "Very Important People" and "Desire"
Poe - "Angry Johnny"
Leftfield - "Original" (6-minute version)
Oh, so quiet is the main song of a musical (movie). Björks character is stone deaf at this point.
She literally is one of a kind.. a true pioneer.. a pixie Bowie
Super hot. LoL
