I'm a big supporter for this one. Such an underrated original 62. You can just feel the freezing atmosphere our protagonist is in. Also the book is pretty dang dark with the parents aspect. Tomorrow I'm starting 12 Screams Of Christmas for the first time, hope it's a good one!
Oh yeah it’s a child’s custody hearing horror story. My mom is a custody attorney and I know all about this stuff growing up. Aunt Greta is my bane with this story. Because she’s willing to lie to her niece and let her find out points of her life from strangers rather than the person she trusts the most. And I don’t believe she was there to stop the snowman. I believe she was there to make sure Jaclyns dad was kept out of her life. As far as atmosphere and the winter time feel I loved every bit of it. It’s one of the heartfelt books from original 62. If put it up there with Casey and Margaret with their father in Stay Out Of The Basement. Truly touching stuff. I need 12 Screams Of Christmas!
I think I'll say more when/if Micheal gets to it but i did like this one, A bit overly complicated but that's what I like about, it's actually well thought out when you look more into it. The twists are interesting, and it even has a few nice moments. So yeah, I like it.
Yeah it does have complicated plot points that makes it a heartfelt read if the reader understands the magnitude of Greta/Conrad/Jaclyns relationship. And to see this type of mature, gut wrenching storytelling done in a goosebumps book centered around snowmen is almost a mad lib. I gave it a 4.3 out of 5 because I personally felt it deserves that. It’s above average. And it makes you reflect on what happened to Jaclyn to understand the magnitude of the lies and deceit her aunt put on her life. And maybe it was for the better good, but what we got in the story Greta was more a liability to her life than most people would probably give credit to. I just didn’t like the taste in my mouth as read Greta’s tangled web of lies she kept from her niece all of her life. And I’m not buying she came back to help the people of the snowman. I believe she was there to keep Jaclyn from her father mostly. Which is selfish. That part is the main thing that doesn’t sit right with me.
I thought that it was a very strong entry in the series. I'm typically someone who likes great atmosphere and a real good lore with some mystery. The factor of the sorcerers didn't really bother me and I thought that it was heartwarming with who they turned-out to be. As for Jacklynn's Aunt Greta I'm a bit mixed on that subject. Given her sister's (Jacklynn's mother) history and the part that she played in this story, we don't know if her sister's actions effected the family or how if they did while Greta was growing up. For all we know she could've been picked on for having such a strange sister. And then there's the fact that Aunt Greta's sister has since died which could also be a factor for how she reacts and behaves. However, with those things said, she could've told Jacklynn more about what happened in the past with very good and honest detail. Maybe if she did that, than Jacklynn would've been less vulnerable and would've been more skeptical.
Awesome, I really love how you broke down the book without giving too much away. Well done! I read that one very recently, kind of the only Christmas based book apart from the tales to give you Goosebumps indeed. I really loved that one and it mostly has to do with the new environment, the weird villagers, the town (kind of like a ghost town indeed) as well as the snowmen, and the small little house. And yeah, I didn’t love Aunt Greta that much nor did I hate her, she was just okay I guess compared to some other aunts in Goosebumps you end up loving. I was kind of surprised she would let her niece sleep in the attic so that she could get the only room hahahaha. Wouldn’t it hade made more sense if it happened the other way around? But it turns out to be best I guess because of all the jump scares that ensue! Awesome read. Couldn’t recommend it enough. One of my favorites. Only downside to it was I think the true origin of the Snowman. But apart from that, excellent. Also, it had one of the saddest background stories I’ve ever heard and the twist is very moving...
Wow what an excellent response my friend! I forgot to mention that Greta made Jaclyn live in the attic in my video but that’s also unfair treatment Jacklyn recurved. It’s like when Harry sleeps beneath the staircase in Harry Potter at the Dudleys. It definitely has one of the strongest heartfelt messages in Goosebumps! Thanks for watching!!!
@@goosebumpscompletionist7709 You're welcome and thanks for your awesome comment. I will have to review that one, it's one of my favorite and yeah, definitely that "Harry Potter" feel to it.
I was going to visit family up in Virginia for a few days for the holidays so I got the video out tonight to get it done lol! I can’t wait to hear what you thought of it!
And just to add a bit more into my before thoughts on Aunt Greta, she could see her brother-in-law as being someone who abandoned her weird sister and their baby. Maybe Aunt Greta does to an extant see Jackalynn as this kid that her weird and dead sister had with this oddball of a guy who abandoned them and now she’s the one who has to raise Jackalynn all by herself. Although, it’s also possible that Aunt Greta might feel some sympathy for Jackalynn as she was a product of a couple who fell apart, her father left when she was a baby and then her mother died. So maybe Aunt Greta is more complex.
@@goosebumpscompletionist7709 I really like the setting of the book also the snowmen being scary also the stranger in the book being scary person . I felt bad for the main character parents also the cover is spot on to the book.
I never really liked the book in my opinion mainly because the book takes so long for the snowman to actually appear and when he is in the book he is in the last couple of chapters. Also they way he was defeated was not that satisfying and the book just seemed to end abruptly. I hate to be one of the only people to dislike the book but it just took too long for things to pick up the pace. Maybe I don't like the book because I like more of the action packed Goosebumps books but overall it was ok for what it was. By the way nice video and Merry Christmas!
I agree and I said it in video I didn’t think the snowman defeat was good. It was lackluster, it could’ve been better but it wasn’t. Because defeating the snowman wasn’t the true climax. It was revealing the big mystery of Jaclyns life. It’s more of a girl moves to a new place and has to find herself story. Not much adventure but for what it was I did enjoy the bits of horror we got.

I mostly include some parts of the questline of this book from horrortown in my 12 screams of Christmas event gameplay
I haven’t played all that much Horrortown! You got any how to play or build a good profile? I suck at it lol not going to lie

Such an underrated one!
Where do you get your book sleeves that fit the goosebumps books so perfectly?
Great question, I just buy comic book bags and fit them to the books😁
Beware the snowman? Have I been missing out on some frosty the snowman episodes?
It’s not quite frosty the snowman but it does have that vibe to it in a way!
@@goosebumpscompletionist7709 I know it was a joke
@@defunctstopmotionchannel I’d rather read this than watch that frosty movie from the 90’s though!
This one was alright. You do sympathize with Jaclyn but she’s not that interesting. The poem was kind of eerie though.
I remember reading this alonnnnnng time ago I enjoyed and dude 12 screams of christmas is verry good the best of most wanted so far for me
I have to read it, it’s one book I’ve been hunting for for quite a bit now! Just waiting for the right time!
Oh wow good luck !
