I created the smoke and fire using Lightwave particles and hyper voxels. The city is a photo of San Francisco. KingDiamonds is mistaken to title "made entirely in Lightwave"
Yes you could create the environment in LW. The buildings would be impractical from scratch however as there are premade collections available. Clouds would be better generated in Terragen or Ozone.
mayorc there is a toll in lightwave called skytracer which is MORE than capable of producing the sky in the background.... (not saying that the background wasn't a photo to speed up the render time but it is entirely possible to do it all in LW) no need for photos.... this whole animation could easily be created in lightwave without any external images
I do. FX wind up looking poorly in some movies because the artists rarely have enough time to make every single shot perfect out of maybe several hundred shots. Producers constantly want everything done faster, cheaper and yesterday. You have to pick your battles on a tight deadline. Also, many artists and different houses may be contributing and some are more able than others.
The best way to learn any app is by perusing the many free tutorials here and all over online. But I dont recommend learning LW. Better to put your time into Maya, or 3DS Max.
Watch carefully at all the elements in 3D scenes and you'll realize that only Lightwave is accurate enough to get photorealistic results. Other features are the voxel particle effects that reduces rendering time increasing the beauty of effects. Then you have the exceptional built-in render. If you want more, look for menithings full tilt: watch?v=cC1vQZTMJUc
He cannot respond cause it's not the author.. simply showing what you can do in LW. For the sake of it responding to those it's not done all in LW. The background is a photo. But i think the camera movement on the still photo is directly made in LW, so no after effects or things like that. Remember the professionist doesn't model everithing on scene, you have always to optimize the process cause when working with a tight schedule you have to complete the job and get the best out of it.
Smoke and fire are NOT easy to do in LW, as I am one of the few people who have spent too many hours diddling with the settings to finagle anything decent. Voxels are inherently puffbally looking and difficult to find a hyper texture and texture gradients to minimize the balliness. I use grads in most of the texture channels. And post processing in AFX or Fusion helps a great deal. Learn FumeFX or Blender (free) instead.
@chrisfunk2000 Well i didn't know that lightwave can do effects like this , i actually hav it installed and waiting to move to a better pc.This looks better than movies that have budgets , you should work for an animation studio.
@data9k I have no idea who you are, but I can't imagine anyone who has taken the time to learn a 3D package behaving so horribly towards someone at the same stage in learning which they once were. Genius? That is irrelevant, however I suspect your channel is hidden for a reason.
hmm let me guess, real buildings and fake fire/smoke. lol ive see a video techniqure liek this except with a real building and a fake helicopter crashing into it. heck with it 8/10
@data9k You are a liar. Nobody with an hour of actual experience working in this field would ever leave such a disgraceful comment. Had you ever gone through the process of learning to produce CGI, you would understand that everyone needs to start somewhere. Seven years ago, I began with the most basic application imaginable (called "Anim8or") and was delighted with myself. If you do not take pride in your work regardless of your level of development, you will go absolutely nowhere.
Not even in movies all stuff is made digitally in 3D...there are alot of Matte Painters and prop builders. So don't stick to words letter for letter. It's stupid.
if people like you can do this kinda stuff at home, there is no excuse for shit effects making it into real movies. i know stuff mvoes fast with technology but i mean, i've seen movies only 3 or 4 years old that have worse effects that this and ither clips i've seen on youtube. i hope you work in the industry, because you should!
right... ill lend you the cash im shure its not your fault to be poor and spend all day commenting on your virtual life, you must be a really lonely person.... just because i like you, how much do you need?
I do not understand what you are saying. I can't see any connection between what you said and what I said. Maybe you didn't read it properly. I said that macs are shit. I was talking about Apple Macintosh computers.
Yes, the fire is sprites, and the smoke is volumetric voxels. 'Donut' winds make the mushroom shape. Created in LW 7.5.
Only the fire and smoke were done in LW. The city was a still photo taken in San Francisco.

Youre a genius - Love lightwave

Search for 'fire smoke hyper voxels' on the Newtek forum for more tips.
damn u guys r talented
this is damn amazing
no. the camera move was keyframed manually.
Actually, I did this animation. KingDiamond got if from the Newtek gallery.

wow thats totaly neat woulda fooled me if titel dint say
its only a picture plane on the background and a smokey fire animation in the background.
lightwave is freakin imposible to figure out how did u do this!!!!
damn that looks so real
will can u do smoke that easy ???? just the smoke effect is it easy to deal with smokes and fires ?
I do. FX wind up looking poorly in some movies because the artists rarely have enough time to make every single shot perfect out of maybe several hundred shots. Making the whole city would have required alot more time...and for the goal of the author.

cn u pls tell me how to do it.? cause im makin my own movie so i wanna make something like this (as add-on lol)

it can do everything you can in RL with a camera and alot of stuff you can't.
no. FumeFX is best for fire/smoke. Blender is beginning to have smoke fluids.
lol. ur makin ya own movie too.? great, my friend.
that was amazing, you have to show us how you did it lol. If you can make a tutorial that would be nice.
change the lightning and it could be even made to look quite realistic
He cannot respond cause it's not the author..

Doughnut wind
lol good good good. im waiting for ya movie my friend. do u hv msn or ym.?
i cn show u some of muvee sample. =)
How do you get the fire to look like fire. I keep trying and mine look like particle balls. Wher am I going wrong
u know nuthin
nice
can you use lightwave to make games also?
wow! 5/5

did you use only 2 particle emitters in LW for this explosion?
@chrisfunk2000 Well i didn't know that lightwave can do effects like this , i actually hav it installed and waiting to move to a better pc.This looks better than movies that have budgets , you should work for an animation studio.
dude... there was zoom in this vid... lightwave can make camera movements and zoom and focus as if a human were to record it ??
@redfoxbennaton lmao scary movie 4 lmao.
Anyone know how much this costs or where i can get it cheap or free..?
If the name is "made totally in LW" then i suppose everything is 3D. If not, then he bullshitted us with a wrong name, lol!
It would be much better with some sound.
Which version are you using? How about giving us a tutorial?
The effect 3-D, the city not
this is a real :)
it looks too real. Is this lightwave program all that? If so I'm gonna get it.
@data9k
I have no idea who you are, but I can't imagine anyone who has taken the time to learn a 3D package behaving so horribly towards someone at the same stage in learning which they once were.

haha cool...
your effects are too bright or saturated to fit in, the animation is excellent, just the colouring of it doesn't fit in the with surroundings
hmm let me guess, real buildings and fake fire/smoke. lol ive see a video techniqure liek this except with a real building and a fake helicopter crashing into it. heck with it 8/10
...it wasn't necessary.
are U sure this is not a film? :D
@data9k

@redfoxbennaton HAHA i rofled xD
daaaahhhhh get a mac
LOL XD@redfoxbennaton

@JacksonStone7040 ok, but misinform people to make "fun", its NOT a valid point, we have too much fake crap at youtube, kids must stay away from this!
FAKE, real footage with CRAPPY CG explosion!
just asking dude, for more of a hobby nothing spectacular chillax...
for making 3d you dont create quite of videos my friend your channel is empty
macs are shit.
macs are for kids and people who dont know much about computers.
