From what I understood from the translation of the interview with the director of the show, it was always meant to have another season, hence the open ending. The problem is that the second season is not guaranteed since the funding is in question. Guess we just have to make do with the novel for now to fill the gaps 😭
That's what infuriates me tbh. I know it's not all in the directors control (I know he's written second season) but with the uncertainty of season two with everything hingeing on financing and they already had problems with getting season one off the ground- leaving out a huge portion of the story (the show barely gets into the second act of the book) and leaves out tons of development out while wasting time of other subplots (like the teachers) to finish on that note when you're so uncertain if the show will come back to be completed was a miss step. I say all of this and it's still my fave this year and I LOVE IT SO MUCH but still...you're right. We'll have to make do with the novel

Great video and summary, I loved how you started the video emotionally charged (similar to how i was after ep12) and as the thoughts and retrospection came in, it brings a level of acceptance to the story and the ending( even thought i too wanted more). Hoping we get season2 soon.

The acting really sold everything for me! They picked the absolute best for the roles. I couldn't image anyone else doing Wang & Tian justice than these two!
I loved this drama. I had no idea today that I was watching the finale. I am so disappointed. The episode was very emotional for me. I felt so sad for both boys, unable to communicate their love for each other directly and especially Wang, whose lust was awakening and frightened him so much that he felt he had to "correct" it, and in his naivete sabotaged his standing in his school to distance himself from Tian. Tian had all along understood where their relationship was headed, and of the two, he took the most care of it. His love language was obviously acts of service, and he took care of his "brother" so well. He should not have waited, though. He should have spoken. Neither of them could. I am so sad about that.

@@offbypurpleheart And, isn't this true of so many BL stories? What drives the drama is usually miscommunication or lack of communication. I think it is rooted in Asian culture (generally), part of important social values that children learn from very young. As a Westerner and American, this can be the most frustrating part of watching BL dramas. It is diametrically opposed to our concepts. I used to mutter all the time, "Just speak! Say something! Tell him!" I recently saw an American "BL," though, and they used reticence to create and sustain the drama, so it can happen in any culture, and I'm sure personality type has a lot to do with it in real life.
I agree that this is an excellent drama. But I am not as heartbroken as you about the ending. I hope there is a 2nd season but, if not, I just tell myself that sometimes a deep emotional love between two people does not have a happy ending. Being a young widow provides a perspective I would happily live without. Make no mistake I am not well pleased with the bitter ending.
Sigh. I've been watching some lighthearted Bl's to make up for it but you're right. Better to comfort myself that even beautiful relationships can not have happy ending and be satisfied with the great performances anyway (the novel will help me too I guess).
a side note: the whole drama is only 40% of the story. If there is season 2, there is going to be quarrel, heartbreak, seperation, re concile, sex and more, according to the novel.

I agree with everything you said, 100%. It's a brilliant show and I will be very disappointed if there isn't a season two. Some people don't understand or appreciate subtlety, which is why I think someone would think it's boring. That said, where did you find the English version of the novel? I've been looking but no luck so far.

I've been this last week terribly blue because of the fact that will end like that and there won't be more to come... will miss the characters, their faces and gestures, their looks when gazing each other. I love this series so much but I also hated the ending. I think if there was a guaranteed Season 2, I wouldn't be this sad about the ending. We are all hoping for a Season 2. Do you perhaps have any recommendations to watch to comfort myself from that ending?
It depends. If you haven't watched "Unknown," that would be my first recommendation! That's my favourite this year along with this one! If you like school setting type Bl's - "I Hear The Sunspot" was excellent! I really like "Sugar Dog Life" as well which is currently airing. Some say it's boring but I think it's the sweetest thing and it'll end this week and it looks like it'll have a great payoff

That second season better materialize! The actors were fabulous. I had to find the book and read it after the ending , I can only imagine these two actors, so at least I know how the story ends so I was ok 😂😂 but would love to see them finish this story
