- Stephen King fans, Dolores Claiborne fans, or Danny Elfman fans... here is that gorgeous piece of music (main title theme) that opens the movie Dolores Claiborne. Yeah, the guy wrote the theme to The Simpsons... but my god it just goes to show how diverse and talented Elfman is. The score to the movie was absolute perfection. But nothing hits home harder than this opening theme that sets the tone when you sit down to watch this movie. Haunting, dark, foreboding...just close your eyes and enter Dolores' world. The feelings this piece create are still powerful on me every time... takes you back to a cold shoreline, distant memories, and feelings of being alone and isolated. Amazing what a piece of music can do when written with a theme in mind by a brilliant composer. Enjoy. Remember...close your eyes and turn it up.
I live only a 40 minute drive from the main shooting locations (Blue Rocks, Chester, and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, CANADA). I have stood in the exact spot where JJL is standing in the video. The house set is long gone and it's just miles of grassy fields and shrubs. It's surreal.

just hearing this piece makes me cry. My favorite movie EVER!! Everyone in it deserved Oscars! Shame.
This was her Oscar worthiest performance ever. Better than any actress i'VE SEEN!
Kathy Bates was even better in this, than she was in "Misery". I agree.
I also feel as so many others do about this beautiful piece. A favorite movie of mine too! Two other movies (and their themes) affect me the same way: The Green Mile, and Flowers in the Attic....and possibly Somewhere in Time. I get contemplative and ponder the pathos....the difficulities people faced and experienced. It is a deep feeling!
You are a man after my own heart. And the way you articulated all of that sounds exactly the way I would articulate it.
A friend of mine was playing Edward Scissorhands tonight, and what was most fresh on my mind was Elfman's Score to this film.
According to Taylor Hackford (the director of Dolores Claiborne), the photography on this movie was inspired by Maggrite paintings. Remember when "Selena" looks al herself in the mirror and the only thing she sees on the reflection is her own back? Frigthening moment!
Very suitable theme to a very beautiful movie. I was impressed with this beautiful movie. Kathy Bates made this film - absolutely brilliant performance. She should have won the Oscar or at least being nominated for this award. Jennifer Jason Leigh and Judy Parfitt were stunning as well.

No he leido el libro y creo que no me equivoco pero la película no lo desmerece para nada, excelente ambientación, interpretación sobre todo Kathy Bates y la música te transporta de manera sublime en esos oscuros rincones del alma y del sufrimiento humano.
