This is the best clam chowder recipe on the web. No canned clams or juice, but simply made from scratch. Love ❤️ it. Thank you Laura.

I JUST MADE THIS. I DID LUST LIKE LAURA SAID. IT CAME OUT GREAT. BEST CHOWDER I HAVE HAD. THANKS. I ADDED THE CORN. IT MADE THE CHOWDER SWEETER.

This is a really good recipe and I used it as a base for my own dish with a few modifications. I used mussels instead of clams (they are far easier to get in Belgium, and much cheaper...), and didn't use the corn. The technique for making the clam juice (for which a massive thank you, its awesome) works great with mussels. I also added prawns (which give a more subtle sweetness than the corn) and reduced a 125ml glass of white wine with the onions before adding the juice (I'm a sucker for French technique). I'd thoroughly recommend doing that if you can as gives the dish some acidity.

I've been cooking this soup regularly ever since I first watched the video. It's so good, I can't stop making and eating it, even though it's really hard and expensive to get clams where I live. This is the best soup recipe EVER.

I enjoyed your video. This is the exact way I've always made chowder. Born and bred New Englander here. My dad taught me to make chowder about 45 yrs ago and he makes the best I've ever tasted ( besides my own ) :) The only difference is that I use half and half or light cream because we like the Rhode Island 'broth' style chowder which is not thick & creamy. I also love using thyme in my chowder.
Hardshell clams are named by size. What you used are actually QUAHOGS usually 3-4" , Cherrystones are smaller, around 2-3" and Little Necks even smaller ( 1-2"). Good work. I look forward to watching some of your other videos. Bon Appetit !

Why I love this recipe: I just started to begin making mussel chowder.
While I’m letting my mussels soak I just happen to come here and watch your recipe. And this recipe just so happens to be not only using the exact, to a tee ingredients I’ve chosen (but mussels for clams), but my exact method of prep. I feel even better about my chowder now.

We went clam digging yesterday and I have a 5 gallon bucket full of clams.....I purged them and now I'll be making this.....and putting the bigger ones on the BBQ 😌 can't wait to dig in 😋
Thank you Laura....I always enjoy your recipes. Especially the cinnamon rolls and the Nutella cheesecake, which I made 5 times already and it's always a hit lol

Because Clam Chowder, or as the New Englanders sometimes call it Quahog, is a hot and hearty soup, we think of it as winter soup. But we love it anytime. I'm going to try your recipe next because it looks so delicious. The soups in a can are good in a pinch but sometimes it's so satisfying to make it from scratch. Thanks for uploading.

Thank you for the simple recipe! I'm trying to get into cooking (college student here, but I'm finding myself invited to potlucks and dinner parties more and more often lately), and this is very pragmatic for my level. No foreign-sounding ingredients that'll get me lost in the grocery aisle, no special prep taking place 12 hours beforehand, and no special kitchen gear needed.

I just tried the recipe today and I'm happy to say it was a success! I did, however, make a few changes. I used canned clams, instead of fresh, and used about 4 cups of clam juice. I omitted the corn and added half a tablespoon more of flour just so that the chowder was a bit thicker. Other than that, I followed the rest of the recipe and was mighty impressed with the results. Definitely a dish I will make again. Thanks Laura! :)
