How Difficult Or Rare Is It To Get Human Life - Among all the species of life we souls may inhabit, human life is the best because it affords us the higher intelligence with which to make spiritual progress. In plant or animal bodies, our consciousness is too undeveloped.
With the higher awareness of human life comes greater responsibility. Animal life comprises only four activities: eating, sleeping, mating and defending. Human beings are no better than animals if they spend their lives in similar pursuits and don't try for self-realization.
When we observe the vast numbers of plants and animals in this world, we can understand just how rare is a human birth. That should inspire us to make the best use of our short time in these bodies by diligently following the authorized spiritual practices of Bhakti yoga, which can lead to perfection.

Hare Krishna There are many, many combinations possible of the modes of material nature, all those different permutations and combinations manifest as different qualities and natures. Many humans are endowed with the same nature but not all are same. By the inconceivable potency of Krsna, 3 modes of material nature give rise to 4 lakh types of humans, and by humans we mean that there nature is different.
The Shastras never mentioned that these 4 lakh humans look different, but their states of Consciousness differs. There are also other living entities in the creation, not living on this planet, that almost fall into the category of humans and if we count them all and differently natured humans here, there will certainly be at least 4 lakh types of humans!
Jala-ja nava-laksani sthavara laksa-vimsati
krmayo rudra-sankhyakah paksinam dasa-laksanam
trimsal-laksani pasavah catur-laksani manusah
“There are 900,000 species living in the water. There are also 2,000,000 nonmoving living entities (sthavara), such as trees and plants. There are also 1,100,000 species of insects and reptiles, and there are 1,000,000 species of birds. As far as quadrupeds are concerned, there are 3,000,000 varieties, and there are 400,000 human species.”
As well as the different types of humans on this planet, there are also humans on other planets. The Gandharvas, Vidyadharas, Caranas, Angels, Apsaras, Yaksas, Rakshas, Bhutaganas, Uragas, Pasus, Pitas, Kinnaras, Kimpurushas, Pretas, Pisacas, Bhutas, Pannagas, Vaitalikas, Vetalas, Nagas, Uragas, Pannagas, Suparnas,Mahoragas, Pramathas, Nayakas, Asuras, Devas, Daityas, Danavas, Guhyakas, Ribhus, Kindevas and so on.
The Kindevas are a race of human beings who are, like the demigods, completely free from fatigue, sweat and body odor. Seeing them, one may thus ask, kim devah: "Are they demigods?" Actually, they are human beings living on another planet within the universe. The Kinnaras are so called because they are kincin narah, or "a little like human beings." The Kinnaras have either a human head or human body (but not both) combined with a nonhuman form. The Kimpurushas are so called because they resemble human beings and thus prompt the question kim purusah: "Are these human beings?"
These different species are classified as ‘human’ because despite their varying bodies, their consciousness is sufficiently developed to understand the concept of God, which is what distinguishes a human from an animal. Amongst the humans on this planet, there are different categories according to the consciousness of the body
Of the 84 lakhs species :
9,00,000 species are aquatics;
20,00,000 species are plants and trees;
11,00,000 species are insects;
10,00,000 species are birds;
30,00,000 species are beasts, and
4,00,000 'species' are human beings.
(The meaning of 'species' is explained in the Padma Purana)
As per Padma Purana, the meaning of "species" understood by biologists is different from the meaning implied here. The meaning used by biologists applies to the gross physical appearance or the gross morphological feature of the living material bodies. The Vedic meaning, however, which is derived after thorough and careful analysis, is based on the level of consciousness of the living being. For example, biologists say that all human beings belong to one species, whereas the Vedic literatures list 400,000 species. In other words, there are 400,000 grades of human beings on different levels of consciousness. Thus, here, species should be understood as grade.
