Soon Joe Biden will be the 46th President in American history. Biden has had some major tragedies in his life.
On December 18, 1972, just weeks after he was elected to the U.S. Senate, his wife, Neilia, was Christmas shopping with their three kids, Naomi, Beau, and Hunter, when their vehicle was struck by a truck pulling out of an intersection. Both Neilia and Naomi, who was just one year old at the time, died in the accident. Beau and Hunter were injured, but survived.
However, on May 30, 2015, Beau died at the relatively young age of 46 from brain cancer.
Perhaps a parent’s worst fear is to lose their children, and Joe Biden has had to bury two of his four children. However, throughout American history, it has been more common than you probably think for American Presidents to outlive their own children.
In this video, let’s look at every single son or daughter of every single American President. Some of the presidents’ children were famous. The vast majority of them, however, were not. Heck, they don’t even have Wikipedia pages, and we don’t even know the names of all of them. The average number of children for all the Presidents is 4.1 Now, keep in mind that I am also going to mention some “alleged” children throughout this video.

I honestly bet Alice sought attention because of her deceased mother. TR was absolutely head over heels in love with Alice (mother) and when she died, he was completely devistated. He never talked of her mother and many pointed out that she was treated differently than the rest of the kids, partially based on the fact that TR said Alice reminded him so much of his first wife. She was probably looking for someone to give her attention. :(

You forgot to mention one cool thing about Teddy Roosevelt JR, He was the only US general who actually join the troops on the field during the D-day invasions. He was part of the Utah beach landing, but his men landed in the wrong place, but this landing place was actually strategically better than the initially planned location, so he redirected all other troops to that location and easily established a beachhead for the allies. He was then awarded the Medal of Honor for this.

"I can run the country or I can try to control Alice." Teddy sure had some amazing quotes. I honestly don't think he ever cared to control Alice. He likely enjoyed her fiery nature and bold personality. He was one of the great male feminists of the time. Even in his college days he was advocating for equality. He even thought women shouldn't be obliged to change their names upon marriage. He also championed legislation to prosecute men who beat their wives. He's so often portrayed at only being "intensively masculine" when in reality, he was intensively strong, independent, and full of fortitude. Is it *ANY* surprise that his daughter would take after him? We can only guess the type of woman Alice Hathaway Roosevelt would have blossomed into had she survived. She was clearly deeply loved by Teddy based on his actions and I wouldn't be surprised if Alice reminded him of the elder Alice. Also, it should be pointed out that Roosevelt's beloved mother died the same day as his wife. Double blow. You cannot fault the man his grief.

Regarding Madison, there is a woman with a potentially credible claim of descent through a child between James Madison and one of his slaves...truth be told, several early U.S. presidents apart from the ones we know for sure about like Jefferson and Tyler can likely be said to have had illegitimate children with enslaved women as well. Horrific that they took advantage of enslaved people that way.

I read that Abraham Licoln's surviving son, Robert Lincoln, was saved from serious injury and death by John Wilkes Booth's older brother Edwin Booth, who performed the best Shakespearian King Hamlet ever. It occurred between late 1864 and early 1865, so it happened before John Wilkes Booth assassinated the president. Edwin Booth didn't know who Robert was during the rescue, but Robert knew Edwin since he was a famous actor. General Ulysses S. Grant had a military staff write to Edwin Booth thanking him in saving the President's son, and that is when Edwin learned of the identity of the person whom he saved. In 1909, Robert Lincoln recalled the incident in The Century Magazine:
"The incident occurred while a group of passengers were late at night purchasing their sleeping car places from the conductor who stood on the station platform at the entrance of the car. The platform was about the height of the car floor, and there was of course a narrow space between the platform and the car body. There was some crowding, and I happened to be pressed by it against the car body while waiting my turn. In this situation the train began to move, and by the motion I was twisted off my feet, and had dropped somewhat, with feet downward, into the open space, and was personally helpless, when my coat collar was vigorously seized and I was quickly pulled up and out to a secure footing on the platform. Upon turning to thank my rescuer I saw it was Edwin Booth, whose face was of course well known to me, and I expressed my gratitude to him, and in doing so, called him by name."

One minor edit: Theodore Roosevelt himself was actually Theodore Roosevelt Jr. as he was named after his father. His son went by junior rather than the third because the second man with that name was, of course, the most famous.

As for the Benjamin Harrison thing it would be quite weird for his kids. It would be like your dad calling you to have a private talk and then saying, "look, I'm marrying your cousin". If I was ever in such a position my face would be covered in Narcan within seconds.
