The way you handled that interaction with the little girl whos dad wanted her to skate the ramp was perfect lol. Straight to the point but super respectful
Notice Mitchie casually checking the guys board and finding it way too loose and not stable and then immediately giving him his own board to try. He then makes the next drop in no problem. Such a nice little detail 🤙
That was awesome, Mitchie noticed him finally compose himself and stand up straight before that last drop in and he already knew "This is it." Magnificent teacher and incredible moment to catch on camera, stuff like that really shows you the guy knows what he's talking about.
@SKATEiQ God bless you man, keep up the good work. Your videos seem to be getting me back into skateboarding, it's been hard with a new condition I got but I appreciate you taking the time to reply to us. You're a legend.
Coming from an entirely different sport I got to work with Mitchie and he’s as awesome of a student as he is a coach. Always open minded, fearless, and straight up fun to be around. Love you brother
I don't skateboard and never plan on it. Yet every time I see these shorts on facebook, I watch it all which made me subscribe here. You're a great teacher and it's been nice for me to learn on how to become a better teacher myself for my own adventure. Thank you and happy skating !
Everything about this is so wholesome. From the range of emotions to the crowd being super supportive. Mitchie's coaching methods are surreal, its amazing how everything makes so much sense even through a screen and without a board underneath my feet. Love it!
Man, I really needed to see that. I spent a few hours on top of a vert ramp last week trying to talk myself into my first vert drop and couldn’t take the plunge. This is exactly what I needed to see for my next session. Thanks!!! 🙏🏻
I’m so happy that you exist. What a fighter that guy is - getting back up is the hardest part but with his determination and your guidance he was always going to get it! This is what skateboarding is all about and why we love it. What an inspiration.
I really am so grateful that people like you exist. You really are the pinnacle of what it means being a teacher by helping bring out the best in others. ❤
you have a knack with the way you teach and interact with the students, It's so refreshing. You never forget that first big drop in and the battle you go through in your head. You just have to have that eff it send it moment and yeet yourself over the edge, only to realise it wasn't that bad after all. Especially if you've already gone tits up, used to feed off the adrenaline after lil stack just get back up rinse n repeat.
Mitchie. I wish I had your videos back in the 80's. Tricks that took us weeks to perfect, you clearly display within minutes. Priceless . We used to take the video Terror at Tahoe and run back and forth from our half pipe to the VHS player just to try and figure out basic tricks. These videos are literally priceless . Great teacher, great dude, and a great skater.
He committed to the back leg straightening out on that last attempt. The ones previous he knew what he was supposed to do, but couldn't get over the instinctive body reactions. Sometimes, despite the best coaching and instruction, you literally need to fail repeatedly before you can succeed. The ability to "fail successfully" is probably one of the greatest mental muscles to strengthen. If you can "fail successfully", repeatedly, and maintain mental tenacity, you can accomplish almost anything.
That freefall feeling at first is where most people alter their balance . Once you get used to that little initial drop it "falls" into place. Cool video. Made me remember standing at the top of Fisherman's Inn in Kent Island Maryland looking down for almost ten minutes before trying. Bucky Lasek learned to skate at that ramp and when we heard he was there , we used to try to pay kids in the neighborhood to drive us over the bridge to watch him. He was only 15 at that time. Our half pipe went to vert , but just. So you had to almost early grab to air, but then we pushed the coping out a little further and the ramp became something completely different. I miss those days !!!
Everyone rooting for this guy. So awesome to see. We all wanted him to succeed even on the YT side as well. This guy couldnt have had a better teacher or crowd backing him up.
That was so awesome! Love to see everything you were teaching pay off in the moment when he dropped in and made it up the other wall. I was so stoked for him and his joy of making it. Starting tall on the back leg instead of crouched is the thing I never knew when trying to to drop in...and it cost me. ;)
I grew up skating in houston doing nothing but street, your videos have been so helpful as I've started up again at 32. I've got two quarterpipes in the backyard I'm learning to skate and I've tried to drop-in a few times but haven't stuck it yet. This makes me want to give it another try
Bro god bless this guy and that he gave it all he had I’m so grateful that he got it and that I don’t even want to know how much work he put in to that I’m so exited that he got it at the end❤ of the
This is amazing to watch. I can drop in from small ramps but there is that huge vert ramp in my area where I would never had big enough bawz to attempt drop in. It just feels very different despite I can drop in from smaller ramps no problem.
It’s a little different, but mostly it would be you getting in your own way that would cause problems. Generally if you can drop in on 6 or. 8 foot you can do vertical
I think I can speak for the majority of us in saying the best moments for us is seeing your engagement with kids and seeing their incredible skill(s) in being able follow what you’re saying, understanding it, and applying it. I’d love to see your favorite teaching moment(s) with kids for one of your video ideas!
The tip about standing up at the top to squat down IN the ramp is great. I’m sure it translates to mini bowls- which is more my speed and working up to that, lol
I think if I could have got to the 2:00 point of being able to knee slide infrom the decck i would have dropped in. At the closest park with a vert ramp when i was a kid (about 60 miles) I worked my way up. they had a mini ramp that was like 3 feet, then one that was 4.5 than one that was 7 just shy of vert but then the vert ramp was like 4 or5 feet higher. I could pump up pretty close to the coping but never dropped in on vert. childhood regret. now im 45 and out of shape and would probably break a bone standing near a vert ramp. Quick edit: made the comment right when i got to 2:00. I didn't mean anything about how it took this guy a few more tries nor was i making a comment on his progression. just a comment about a personal memory.
he straightened his front leg rather than wait for it to hit the deck with the front wheels. that might be what i did when i went from 6ft to 8ft. it felt like i was standing too tall and balance was a bit too sketch. i stopped at 6 for now.
@ he got really lucky he didn’t get KO’d or cut his face open. In my opinion I wouldn’t celebrate that as a make unless he kick turned the next wall at least or launched out to the deck. I’m a certified skate instructor and have dropped in on Hawks ramp first try by the way.
@@SKATEiQ his brain wanted it, but I could see those shakey legs from the east coast. Each slam getting worse. He got blessed. Hopefully he goes back and gets a whole run in. Kudos for his bravery but come on guys. No rush

That was so damn cool!!! Well done. It’s a joy to watch you teach and encourage people at all levels of this amazing sport.

Couldn’t be more true
Taking us step by step through the struggle way more helpful than the typical videos of just do A, B, C and it works first time
It’s pretty cool to see the whole process
