    Paired with a good tube amplifier, in my case a Line Magnetic 211 iA, the Heresy IV is an absolute dream team. This plastic openness and transparency in the mid-high range is unique. I like listening to live recordings, you can literally reach into the stage.
    The audiophile virtues such as resolution, localization and spatiality are also at a very high level with the Heresy IV.
    Other loudspeakers, even high-quality ones, often bored me relatively quickly, but this is completely different with the Heresy IV, these are captivating and you feel like you are right in front of the stage.
    You definitely shouldn't let the Klipsch haters stop you from listening to this phenomenal speaker, it's absolutely worth it.

    After watching this video and sifting through a plethora of other Heresy IV reviews and videos', I decided to take the plunge. Since receiving them 2 weeks ago, I have played lofi beats, metal, jazz, folk, blues, rock, electronic, country and ambient through them. They are freaking amazing, and will be saying goodby to my Triangle, B&W's and Heco's fo sure. Source material definitely matters, yet they are still very forgiving of crappy recordings. I am not sure why some report poor base extension, as I find the H4's balanced and absolute ear candy. The Heresy IV's are the best $3500 I have ever spent, without a doubt! Glad I didn't listen to all the haters that preach measurements, and put the listening experience second. Cheers!

    I got mine on sale in 2022, They are clear, dynamic and unforgiving of bad recordings. They need good electronics, and space. I use mine with a sub and it's a wall of effortless sound. They are a solid step up from ALL previous versions. If you like EDM and metal for example, a good recording will make other brands sound like toys. I recommend a sub.

    I just brought home a pair of Heresy IVs yesterday and I love them. They sound great with my Marantz NR1200. Very efficient speakers. I got a great deal because there was a tiny knick on the side of one of the cabinets. My house can be a bit echoey but these sound great. They sound amazing at low volumes. I'm very happy with them and I've never really been a Klipsch fan. TV sounds great through them as well. I couldn't quite afford the Forte IIIs that were on sale which had a little more depth and sounded a bit cleaner, but I'm very happy with these. These replaced a pair of B&W DM610s and sometimes a pair of Dunlavy SC-1s. Love your videos!

Primaluna Preamp and NAD SS amp (soon to become Primaluna Amp). Thank you for the review. Keep the videos coming. Hope you and your family are (stay) well. Best Wishes. John Bartel great reviews for sure, but make no mistake the h3’s are still great speakers, I personally love them in my setup. And there here for the long haul. I’d rather buy the older outgoing model and at a good price and if you find you need bass get a subwoofer, I find a personally find I don’t need the bass. Really depends on the room.

    The Heresy 4’s sound like they were installed in a wall then plastered over for at least a week (well, mine did anyway). Then, out of nowhere, boom. They suddenly loosened up and are absolutely singing.
    Admittedly, they were “ok” with vinyl, but a reasonably high-end Auralic Altair 2.1 sounded like a paper phone.
    Maybe make sure your dealer agrees to a lengthy returns period in case you can’t hold your nerve. It’s worth it, but the run-in is real with these speakers.
    Everything else our boy Andrew said is on the money though - great video that helped me make the decision in the first place.

    My Heresy IVs (powered by a refurbished Sansui G-5700) are absolutely AMAZING, and I genuinely can't imagine wanting 'more' or 'better'. I'm not really the kind of audiophile that a lot of folks are, and I'm sure that there exist better options than what I have, but for my taste my search is over. I've never heard a more detailed speaker that is simultaneously as warm and natural sounding. They can get ridiculously loud without losing anything while also sounding damn good at shockingly low volume. Plenty of bass, I have a Klipsch SPL-120SW subwoofer which is almost always off, I should've gotten a much less powerful/expensive sub, because I just don't really need it and certainly don't need nearly that much bass.

    Hi Andrew. Thank you for another great review! My wife works at Harman and we ordered during a special employee sale a pair of JBL L100 Classic. I heard those speakers a few times in different environments and they always impressed me. We made the final choice to order them after watching your review. They seem to be a speaker easy to work with and easy to live with just like the Heresy IV. Unfortunately because of Coronavirus situation, the shipment of the speakers was put on hold for now, which is undestandable. I am following your channel for over a year and it seems to me that Klipsch Heresy IV and JBL L100 Classic are your favourite speakers. I would be more than happy to see a video where you compare both of them. It doesn't have to be a winner - looser video, just what the differences are between them and in which situation would you want to choose one over the other. Thank you for producting such great content! Would love to win the U-Turn. That would have been my first turntable. Greetings from Marcin @kamuisan36

      @@andrewrobinsonreviews Hi Andrew, The quarantine has ended for Harman employees and finally they sent me JBL L100 Classic. I waited to the speakers since February and they are finally there! :) The speakers looks great. I was playing with them for the last few weeks. It seems though that my 30W at 8Ohm class A amplifier does not have the power to drive them properly. I thought that those are efficient spekaers, but it doesn't seems so. The amp could drive 86db efficient bookshelves in the past as well as 88db slim floorstanders, but here it is obviously strugling with the bass driver. It looks to me that those speakers just require some power to get going. I know that you paired them with Crown XLS Drivecore 2 amplifier with great results. Can you please let me know which exact model in the line you had? Also what other amplifiers match well with JBL L100 Classic from you experience? Thank you Andrew for an amazing channel and all the best for you and Christi.

    I bought a pair of original Klipsch Heresy back in 1980. Here is the cool part... Two houses later and I still have them in my living room. They still produce impeccable clear punchy sound without having to crank them up. They provide me with the full live sound that I love. As a testament to build quality, they are in showroom condition not because I care for them, but because of their super quality construction. BTW, your review of the new mark-4 has me jazzed. Yikes!

    I agree with most of what Andrew says, great review, I watch his channel and a huge fan of him and his wife's reviews, truly awesome. I have bought gear after Andrew's reviews in the past and have been 100% satisfied. I understand his excitement, and I bought a pair due to that excitement, they are iconic, attention to detail beautiful speakers with a rich history. However, to warn those who are here to decide if they are for you, I have to say sometimes they sound mind blowing, best I've heard ever with a smile, other times, they can sound like the most terrible speaker you've ever heard. It is expensive to send these back, they are very heavy, so, as a bottom/mid feeder audiophile, I want to warn buyers like me to hear me out. Vinyl sounds better than digital by far on these speakers, vinyl only cats out there may be happy due to the warmth vinyl provides. In a digital world, jazz recordings, audiophile staples, audio show playlist for Mcintosh, Naim, Andrew Jones and current recordings sound amazing, but older/poorly recorded tracks have zero meat on the bones. Try play recorded treasures from the 1960s such as Paul Revere and Raiders, The Animals, Kinks, etc., will rip your ears out. The bass is hit and miss on older recordings and sounds thin/unlistenable at times, which now makes you select recordings that sound good vs. your favorite music. The pounding bass in your chest is true on audiophile recordings, and they are wonderfully "live" sounding. Instrumentals only music sound fantastic, sometimes vocals by certain singers can make you squint due to the forward character of the speaker. I ran them with a multitude of tube/ss amps, solid state pre-amps, passive pre-amps, integrated amps, R2R DACS, regular DACS, all $2K and under I have in house, and it was all the same. You'll need a subwoofer if you have a highly eclectic musical taste because it is just absent on older music. If you are into today's music, and wonder into the audiophile staples of Steely Dan, Dire Straits, Diana Krall type stuff, you will absolutely be end-game. However, if you are reaching back to play all types of recordings, you'll be disappointed sometimes. I know someone will chime in and say they sound simply amazing on their Pass Labs {fill in the blank model), or some other costly gear of mass financial proportions, but that is another tier of money that bottom/mid ocean audio feeders can't afford. And if I could afford that, I would not be buying a $3K pair of speakers, I'd be looking at the top of the Heritage line. They sounded good with some vintage receivers I have with tone/loudness controls to get that bass up. Klipsch missed an opportunity here, with a 12" woofer, there is no excuse these don't go down to at least 40K to add that layer of bass that is just missing to get that full sound.

    • @ngcolby
      @ngcolby Год назад

      You don't get insane bass with the sensitivity these have, you never will. It's a trade off. The port on the back bought another 10hz, which did make a big difference. The K-horns solve this, but are an entirely different animal to do it, and even those only go down to 33hz, and that's with a 15" woofer, and the folded horn design.
      I will agree with some stuff sounding like complete crap. I will sum up everything you said with this: They are extremely revealing speakers. If you feed them poorly recorded crap, they will sound like poorly recorded crap. If the gear you have upstream is crap, they will sound like crap. The heresy's are going to give you exactly what you give them. Nothing more, nothing less.
      Gonna disagree with the reviewer tho, while technically they don't NEED a sub, they definitely sound better with one like most speakers do. Find a good recording of an organ, turn your sub on and off while playing it, enough said. Heresy's are absolute winners if you like organ music, you are there with it. Almost had a religious experience tonite, and I'm not religious.

    Smiling here.... My brother and I helped select a system for my Mom back in 1983 complete with Hersey loudspeakers. When my Dad passed in 2017 my brother and flipped a coin and I inherited the Hersey's. Per Klipsch tech support based on the serial numbers they are pre-series II. They now proudly live in my studio office (coupled with the small 8" Klipsch down-firing Sub). I believe they sat for over 20 years unused- when I fed them a signal (kinda like a Dr Frankenstein experiment) to my dismay a horrible clatter distortion from a mid-range driver. But wait, after few seconds- "its alive". For me, they are remarkable- they are now put through their paces every day I'm in my office.. Would love the hear them side-by-side with the series IV. Enjoy.

  • @mkshffr4936
    @mkshffr4936 3 года назад +6

    I am trying to figure out how a sub would not be required. The manufacturer specs 48Hz +/- 4dB which in my experience would mean down 6 to 8dB from the midrange. So that means is should be struggling for the low E on bass guitar and completely missing the low C on the 16' pedal stops on the organ and don't even think about the 32' pipes since you are rolling off at 24dB per 8va. Admittedly room gain will pick up some of it but I would have to hear it to believe it. Would love to get a chance some day.
    I suppose it is kind of academic as I can not afford these let alone the Cornwalls. :D

    P.S. The outtakes are absolutely worth watching all the way to the bitter end! Not that the review itself isn't worth it's weight in pure gold...but yeah, just stay with it.
    I'm not accustomed to a ladies' voice [with subtitles] suddenly popping up outta the blue in the background during one of your reviews, Andrew. So I admit, I was a bit thown by that--particularly once you burst out in response to the disembodied voice. Kinda nuts. Very cool though. Makes tons more sense once I got to the very end and realized she's not just some random disembodied heckler, but rather an apparent fixture around there. Couldn't determined is she was operating a camera or not but based upon where the voice emanated within the stereo image playing back thrift l through my Galaxy S10, I felt her presence to be too far left and behind the camera's physical placements in the space. So....perhaps, she is just a very successful heckler who manages to crash your gig & toy with you after all. Hmmmm....🤔. Then again, that had the makings of a loving--albeit pesky--wife written all over it! Haha
    Anyhow, just wanted to say, GREAT STUFF! Had me in stitches right along with you two! (I thought I was the only one who could make faces like that whenever I whiffed majorly at something that should...normally....be so simple & straightforward). LMAO
    Thanks, Andrew, for the laughs today. I think we all really can use them right now!
    Be well and take care of you and yours, as well, sir.

      Matthew Christ had them both, sold the Klipsch. There is a reason why they are half the price. Too harsch and although it has a back Bass port now, it has almost no low. The new L100 sound very balanced with a perfect high-mid-low and sound more audiophile level to me.

    My bucket list is to one day listen to a pair of Heresy speakers. Side note: Klipsch is one of those brands that is such a well know name in the audio industry that I kind of shied away from because every RUclipsr had them and I got sick of hearing so much praise while other great speaker companies took the backseat on the RUclips bandwagon. For that reason I tried to build my main audio systems out with different companies that I liked because I wanted to be different from the rest of the crowd.
    I recently was able to snag a pair of RP-600m’s and I’m using them in my mini bedroom setup with a Fire TV. My wife and I watch a lot of Netflix and TV before bed and the 600m’s have been our go-to each night. From just doing some casual music listening my first thought was how little power Klipsch need to fill a room. I can’t get over their performance from just a small amount of power.
    The wife hates the look of these, so I’d never be able to put something like this in our main room but if these are anywhere close to the 600m’s (which I’m sure they’re miles ahead) these have to be an incredible experience and joy to listen to. I always want to knock Klipsch, because of their mainstream appeal, but at the end of the day, they make great speakers at great price points for anyone’s budget.

    This review will probably seal the deal on my next speaker decision. I've been going back and fourth on these or the Forte III. I think the lower profile will be better for now and then who know's, the Heresy's might end up as my rear surrounds when I upgrade again. :)

My first Klipsch-less system is I don't know how many years.

    • @videoproboston2450

      @@lt1nut Hi,
      Sure. I did receive them and they were delivered about nine weeks after ordering and just after being diagnosed with Covid! I mention that because I had to quarantine and had to stay in my Covid jail to keep my wife safe. Brand new speakers in their fresh cardboard boxes and I had to wait. Luckily my symptoms were as minor a seasonal allergies and it wasn't too long before I could set them up.
      Anyway...
      I bought the .7s for my front speakers and their MC1's as my rear surrounds. I'm also using an MC1 as a center speaker and a Rythmik F12 for a sub. I'm running a Denon X4300H and a my originally purchased (in the 80's) Carver M500t power amp to power the .7 fronts. After listening to them for a while now as a two channel system and as my home theater speakers, I have no desire to go back to convectional box speakers again. The soundstage is like nothing I've heard before. Listening in stereo the music seems like it's all around me. Sometimes I have to check to see if the center speaker is off because the it sounds like the vocals are coming from it dead center in front of me. Overall I love them and it is cool to think these speakers with their thin Mylar construction is producing insanely good sound.
      I'm hoping Andrew gets his hands on a pair some day because of what I think are "myths" or at least over exaggerations when it comes to buying Magnepans. I almost passed on them when I kept reading over and over again that you need a big room and they need to be at least three feet away from the wall (I've read a few time that five feet is even better) and if you don't have a V8 of a power amp you need to look elsewhere. Well I'm happy to say those rules need not be followed exactly. I by no means have them set up in their optimal way most of the time. I will pull them out more than where they rest most of the time for some critical listening, but even when I don't they still sound fantastic. I even tested them with my Denon without the Carver and it was a setup that could have kept me happy for a while. I understand they'd open up more and sound even better if I keep upgrading, but I'd say don't be afraid to try them out for anyone who'd like to give them a chance...even in a less than optimal setup. I won't even discuss what the average opinion is of using a single Magnepan as a center speaker is! :)
      Whew...I feel like I went to confession. LOL!

With not being able to go down the shops for extensive listening sessions, but with a lot of time for research on hand I listened through your reviews and decided based on this video to get a pair of Heresey IV - a decision I do not regret ever since. So thank you very much for your work - it really makes a different! Anyone got any suggestions?

      If you do upgrade do so with an amplifier that can go down to 4ohm. You can hear the difference. But your room will make a difference too. So make sure you have your room set up well or the difference in amps will be minimal.

    I've known Klipsch loudspeakers for years and the truth is, they're just not for everybody. As Robinson suggests, high efficiency horn loaded speakers can tend to be a little "in your face," particularly along the midrange. 8 hours listening to loud, 80's era David Sanborn riffs would be torture worthy of Guantanamo Bay. Further, if you are the type to enjoy listening to the soundstage on the 1812 Overture with pair of high end British speakers, you're likely not a good candidate for any Klipsch speaker. But if your preferences lean to pop/rock/blues and you enjoy live music at higher volumes, you will LOVE Klipsch Heresy's or just about any Klipsch loudspeaker. With a decent 100 watt amplifier and a decent source, you can blow yourself away with your own little concert and they won't even break a sweat.

      @@andrewrobinsonreviews You should reach out to Zu Audio and see if they're willing to send you a review sample of the Omen or Soul Supreme (they also have a budget version of the Omen called the Dirty Weekend that goes on sale 2x a year). They are also very efficient speakers like the Klipsch, that leads to great dynamics. Frequency response wise they are more varied than the Heresy IV or the Forte III. But an issue with horns is time alignment between the drivers, and phase issues due to crossover. The Zu speakers use a 10" full range driver then have a "super tweeter" that takes over for the notes above. This leads to a very simple crossover and thus very few phase or timing issues.
      But you really seem to enjoy the high levels of dynamics these speakers provide. Zu has that but like I said you trade FR smoothness for time coherency.

    The Heresy IV although sounding good has devolved from the original Heritage sound due to an ever increasing tractrix horn with a very shallow depth like the Cornwall IV and Forte III the "horns" of these new Klipsch speakers have become more or less wave guides. I have owned countless Klipsch speakers since 1988 including The Klipschorn, LaScalla's, Large Venue Klipsch Professional models, entire lines of Klipsch speakers due to having access to them from a friend managing a high end audio/video business. The first Klipsch speaker I ever heard was the original Klipsch Chorus with its exponential horn and it sounded fantastic. A couple years later hearing the Chorus II with its tractrix mid range I liked the Chorus I more forward, exponential horn better than the Chorus II tractrix. To make an extremely long story short the newest Klipsch models sound more like conventional- non-horn speakers due to their more wave guide - like tractrix horns. The Klipschorn still uses the exponential midrange thus it sounds more forward and more pleasing to horn speaker enthusiasts. Of the countless Klipsch speakers I have owned over the past 32 years taking many things into consideration like overall size and sound 2 of my favorite Klipsch speakers are the original Klipsch Chorus and the kg4. Unlike many posts on Klipsch forums to the contrary the Klipsch kg4 is the only 2 way Klipsch speaker they made that has no hole in the midrange unlike countless other 2 way Klipsch speakers produced over the years and has an amazing 3 dimensional sound produced by its unique horn used only in this model and a few Klipsch Tangent models. The original Klipsch Chorus has the identical drivers as the Cornwall II but a sleeker cabinet and with a subwoofer its lesser bass performance is irrelevant.

  • @stevenswall
    @stevenswall 4 года назад

    I'm one of those people who lit things up about the previous version being 12" and needing a sub. I don't fault you for liking it, I fault Klipsch for the terrible driver.
    You're right though, this one is better. It gets down to about 48dB instead of 58dB, so it looks like they are slowly making headway.
    At this rate, I think version 6 might get down to 28hz and be on par with my 10" Genelecs, though at 1.5-2x the physical volume.
    Glad they are improving, glad you mentioned it, and hopefully it continues until they get down to the level of bass a cheaper Phantom Reactor can play, which seems like it probably took much more engineering time and might even have a higher build cost.

      @@ngcolby When they brought them, speakers were already broken in .(I do not remember the brand but with a mosfet amp that they use for breaking in for the speakers they sell) Also I did not run them for 48 hours to give time to settle down before testing.Also they offer me a incredibly low price (cause my close friend bought La Scala from them) anyway it was my dream to buy them and found chance but I returned.By the way my friend sold the La Scala as well and keep his Antony Gallo for listening.He is a real audiophille who has Jadis and Wilson audio before..Sorry my sentences because English is not my mother language

    Sorry Klipsch fans, I'm not feeling it.
    My cousin bought a pair of these, then was called out of town for a few months on business (then called back due to covid19), but until he got back, I had his pair at my house.
    At first, I was totally into them for the same reasons mentioned in the vid: dynamic, exciting, good bass, efficiency, etc. But then their weaknesses started to appear.
    I do NOT think this speaker is a 'do everything well' speaker.
    I listen to mostly prog-rock, jazz and jazz fusion, and modern and contemporary classical. They are fine with prog and fusion, but on acoustic jazz and contemporary classical, I find them lacking. And the more I listened to them, the more I find them lacking.
    Gone is the ability to 'see' to the back extremes of the concert hall, gone are the extreme details that let me hear the sound of the bow touching the violin string and not just the sound the sting makes, gone is the ability to hear a triangle coming from the back of an orchestra in its correct position despite the orchestra playing fortissimo, and more...
    And yes, I tried them on all tubes and solid state.

      Thanks! Which speakers were you comparing the Heresy IV with?

    • @pandstar
      @pandstar 4 года назад

      @@mutsureibo5615 Well, in all honesty, I am comparing them to Jim Holtz' and Curt Campbell's "Bordeaux" speaker kits (google them). While they are less to build than the $3000 that the Klipsch would set you back, the resulting sound quality is comparable to commercially available speakers at much more $$.
      But, a pair of Magneplanar 1.7 with a sub would come in at about $3000, and, IMO, sound better for what I listen for.
      I am more into detail, imaging, soundstage, transient response, than dynamics and the type of excitement the Klipsch are known for.

    • @pandstar
      @pandstar 4 года назад

      Let me add, that even though the speakers I am using (the Bordeaux) sound like speakers costing substantially more than the $3000 for the Heresy IV, the Heresy's are known as a bit of a 'giant killer' among their fans.
      So, if the hype was accurate, they would be a bit closer in sound quality.

      @@pandstar Thanks for the details about your system.Would you characterize your speaker taste as being more towards a 'British' traditional sound? The earlier Heresys I have heard just sounded pushy and loud-mouthed to me, and with orchestral music, pretty poor.

    Heresy IV vs KLH model 5 for sound quality?

    • @herrtrigger7220

      Heresy wins for the bass alone, Model 5 doesn't make bass. Some of my 6.5 bookshelves have better bass than Model 5. JBL 4312G costs less and sounds better top to bottom, better bass and way louder.
