Thanks for the helpful review - very good point about not turning on and off like the fridge, and also good point about not pulling warm air into the home.

Just bought two of u-shaped 12k units from Costco ($399/ea) and I'm pretty happy with them so far. I also ordered two of the portable heat pumps from Costco Direct ($399/ea) and I'm hoping these will team up well as a backup for my central. Living in Phoenix has its drawbacks this time of year (LOL)...

Great choice, Dave! (And great price!) I saw how hot Phoenix is these days on the news. Wow. These machines will make a huge difference in your home.

I have both, stick with the window one, it is a much better unit.

I like both, for different reasons.

I was under the under the impression the portable would be better efficient. Mine was pulling about 1300 watts. I didn't have enough battery life to see if it settles lower as it runs.
Do you think the window unit would be better suited for an off grid RV when stationary?

@@cooperofnavarone8616exactly what I was want to know from the video I watch the window unit it much more efficient.Showed it running as hight as about 550 and low as about 230 so if yours does 1300watts then I'm buying the window unit

@@2commas469 does on high. 600-900 on medium and 400-600 on low.. it seems to cool pretty well even on low. But I am considering returning and trying to workout how to install the window unit on my RV. I use only solar, so every watt counts. It it's a really nice unit though

The window unit is hands down more efficient and a much smaller space is required.

for the Midea DUO, when it rains, the rain doesn't enter the holes in the pipes?

    • @repairs101

I guess that would depend on the size of the roof overhang and ferocity of the wind but I just close the window when it rains :)

Sorry but I am not a company technician. But as a mechanically minded person I'll bet it does NOT need refrigerant unless it has been damaged. More likely it needs cleaning.
Here is a link to their FAQ page which features a Live Chat. Good luck!

Sorry but I'm not a company tech I'm a filmmaker. That said, are you accidentally using the dehumidifier setting? Are there any windows open in your house? (close them) . I'm afraid that's all I can think of. Good luck!
