Albert Bouchard's vocals on Dominance and Submission are totally underrated as well, nobody ever talks about how he kills it in that song.

Really great show again! As for Alice Cooper maybe all his albums til 84 combining with Van Halen, Moxy, Starz, Montrose/Gamma and Legs Diamond Albums of the same time period would make an interesting show. Keep up the great work
What Martin dislikes about the first three BOC albums is exactly what I like about them, the mysterious, murky, moody sound and production. It's like music from a whole different universe, the universe pictured on the first and second album covers. I can't rate these because I don't own Kiss, but these shows are making me think of giving a chance to a few of their albums. That's what I love about SoT, the infectious love for music can make a person re-look at how they think about a certain band/artist.
If you are gonna start on a KISS mission of studio albums I recommend. 1. Hotter than Hell 2. Ace Frehley 3. KISS. Otherwise just start with the two live albums. Personally I dig the studio albums for their moods. I love Dynasty alot too but that's a contrarian pick. It's great. I'm shocked they didn't rate Ace's solo higher. It's a perfect album. The weakest album is always Peter's. But strictly KISS the weakest is Love Gun. You really can't go wrong with any of the 70's records if big dumb rock is interesting. Destroyer might be a good one to start with if you are a big Alice or BOC fan. Personally I can't make it all the way thru a Ted record except the old greatest hits one. Way too much filler. He really had no business being mentioned in this ranking.
@@captainkirk70 Thank you for the suggestions. Blue Oyster Cult is a top 5 favorite band of mine so they would have dominated my top 10. In high school I was a drummer in a band and we played two Kiss songs, Love Gun and Firehouse. I preferred Firehouse so the first album may be my starting point. I'm sure I'll enjoy the 70's Kiss stuff because I like dumb, silly lyrics 70's rock like Ted Nugent, and Kiss can be just as dumb of not dumber than Ted. I like my music intelligent like Peter Hammill, and I like my music stupid like Ted. 😂
@@aldebaran4154 They really were good song writers. 99% of people prefer the versions on Alive. And I certainly used to. But as I got older I started to like the studio versions. They're kinda charming. And none of records sound the same except for songwriting style. If you find that the studio cuts are kinda lacking then definitely give Alive a whirl before giving up. It's those songs on steroids. KISS probably would have broken up without it as their records weren't living up to their concerts. They were deeply in debt because those records weren't selling and their shows were expensive to put on. I greatly prefer KISS to Ted. Alice would have been a better pick especially since they put the Amboy Dukes records into the mix.I think the Alice run from Love it to Death to Billion Dollar Babies is just fantastic. I think you will dig them. But then there's the nostalgia factor to think about. I was 8 in '78 and KISS was like a dream band for a kid. My walls were covered in their posters. Really tasty solos by Ace too. They're like songs within songs. I know them without really knowing them if that makes sense. Definitely give Destroyer a chance. It's generally looked at as their finest studio record. Total Bob Ezrin production. And for a Greatest Hits I recommend Double Platinum. It came out in 1978 and alot of care was put into it to make the different productions into a cohesive sound. For me, it's all about burnout. I rarely reach for an album these days but they are in my DNA by now. I'm 54. Since you're a drummer you'll probably either love or hate Peter. But many highly technical drummers love him and know he was integral to the original sound that made them famous. Without him it would kinda be like John Bonham playing with the Beatles. But not comparing him to Bonham or Ringo. And Peter definitely doesn't make or break a KISS song.
@@jimilove7773 Absolutely. A lot of people hate them, and for awhile I thought it was maybe just nostalgia but they really were great. Especially when you compare them to others in their category. I wouldn't put them against the Stones or Zeppelin but they made far better albums than people give them credit for. Only a few filler tracks during their heyday. I even love The Elder. Lol. But I stop when the make up came off. Plus Ace was always my favorite member. I remember when I went to the Creatures tour the ad in the paper was a picture of the cover. Had no idea Ace wasn't still in the band. They kept that secret as long as they could. I think the show was one of the first dates on the tour. As a kid I had no idea that Peter and Ace weren't playing on some of the make up albums. Just took the cover for granted. It was a bummer that night but I got over it and still enjoyed the show. But had no idea who was playing guitar. I don't think they introduced Vinny at all.
Mike Slamer the guitarist from City Boy also has some other good projects worth checking out: Devil's Hand, Seventh Key, the teamup Shopan Entesari & Mike Slamer/Cutting Edge Rock, Steelhouse Lane, Steve Walsh's Glossolalia, Chris Thompson's Won't Lie Down, Streets plus Slamer/Nowhere Land
Brings back memories of listening ..or nicking [when he was out] of my older brother albums in the 70's, Kiss and Ted Nugent I mostly loved. Good stuff. UK

These mix up and rank shows are wonderful, and having Martin and Peter together is greater than the sum of the parts. I love the challenge of opinions and I also love the agreement. There are loads of good topics to wish for, for example hair metal, big 4 thrash albums, grunge, British 70s glam, US metal before hair metal, 90s metal, nu metal, in case you need some ideas!
To honest glam metal grunge and nu metal, there not going to cover its Been said in a lot of his videos that those genres he's not a fan of so I would be SHOCKED if they coverd those 3 genres.
here’s my top 15 1. Aerosmith Rocks 2. Aerosmith Toys in the Attic 3. BOC Secret Treaties 4. Kiss Debut 5. Aerosmith Get your Wings 6. Kiss Rock n Roll Over 7. Aerosmith Draw the Line 8. BOC Mirrors 9. Aerosmith self titled debut 10. BOC Tyranny and Mutation 11. Ted Nugent self titled debut 12. Aerosmith Night in the Ruts 13. Kiss Love Gun 14. BOC self titled debut 15. Kiss Destroyer
These shows are great for rediscovery. When you both had Night in the Ruts ranked high I thought to myself that album is weak. However, since I value both of your opinions I revisited and wow what was I thinking in the past. This is an underrated gem. Thank you both.

I love Peter's cover of Tossin' and Turnin'. His musical influences on the original KISS is one of the things that made the original band's music interesting and unique. No disrespect to Eric Carr....
It's funny that Peter prefers the 50s era when he just kills it on those KISS songs. Baby Driver and Black Diamond just have those great screams on them! He was an incredible ROCK singer.
So, try this out. Chelsea. A New York City early American Prog Band on MCA. Peter was their drummer. Only heard one track by them but there is an Lp out there.
This video brings up a topic I think would be great for the show. “What are the best eras of different bands?” In other words, was it the beginning of their careers, middle or latter part which produced the best albums? Some bands come out of the gate on fire, others change towards the end for the better.
Kiss had 3 perfect albums ,Hotter,RNR Over and Creatures..Nugent had Tooth,Fang,Claw and some other near perfect albums as well. What a steady career he's actually had , putting out great/good albums for 56 years in 3 different bands.
When KISS had a healthy Ace Frehley playing those magical guitar solos in the 70's they were Rock And Roll at it's best. Then the drugs and alcohol took over, a real shame.

Absolutely loved this episode and I'm on board for anymore that continue in this vein (essentially; you'll understand if there's just some bands I don't care about).
Pete says “You’re breaking my heart Martin”…..Martin breaks my heart so often. Drives me nuts with some of the things he says about some of my favorite artists, songs, albums….yet I still like the guy haha. Love these ranking videos guys!!
@@theartofhavoc5467 yeah but I’m not saying rank them against each other, I’m saying instead of just ranking the 80s output from those bands, which is what Pete and Martin said they were doing, also throw in the 3 albums that came out in 1990. It makes more sense to me that way. If we are ranking them against each other I’d probably go with your ranking more times than not, but I can definitely see days where I’d have Seasons right with or slightly above Rust. I think Seasons is really underrated.
Have to strongly disagree with Martin on the "the black and white" Blue Oyster Cult albums. Those first 3 albums are phenomenal and their best in my view
My top ten would consist of all six of the BÖC albums, Aero’s Toys and Rocks, Destroyer by KISS and probably Teddy’s 🧸 first record due to the immense “Stranglehold.” Another great show, gentlemen. KISS, Ted and Aerosmith I associate together more than both Alice and BOC, but if you’re going to do American hard rock/proto-metal, Alice definitely belongs somewhere.
The more I watch these guys the more it seems my tastes gravitate towards Pete vs Martin which is interesting because Martin has had so much influence in what I listen too now, crazy
You could do the whole catalog of Alice cause it’s almost like doing a few different bands with all his styles changing constantly, he must be getting close to 30 albums by now with more on the way. It would be a great discussion
Couldn’t agree more on Hotter Than Hell Pete, always been my favorite despite the production issues you mentioned. I would love a remix of that one, shocked it hasn’t been attempted.
@@GregoryAlanBaileygamereviews Agreed, I think it was their label. Casablanca was about the quick buck when they first signed them and only kicked in more money after they broke big with Alive. We dodged one with their debut, while not perfect it’s definitely better. ✌🏻
Got to see Ted Nugent one time, he was opening for Aerosmith, who I managed to see ten times, and KISS twice. Never saw BOC, my loss. So I am mostly an Aerosmith fan, then early KISS, then Ted then BOC. They're all great, but I like what I like.
Question for Martin. Why a dilike of the B&W period? That was the birth of Sand-Oyster-Cult. Without that period, and Sandy Pearlman. They would have never launched. (Period). And all those 'deep dives' performed still today! The are amazing how they took those. Then built around them. Just enough to justify a reason for it 'all'.....
I am not familiar with Blue Oyster Cult outside of the radio. So leaving them out my top 5 is; 1) Toys In The Attic 2) Rocks 3) Get Your Wings 4) Ted Nugent 5) Kiss
Where did Martin rank BOC Agents of Fortune? I must have missed it. I was totally surprised to see Pete rank Spectres as high as he did. I thought that was quickly ranking up as one of his top 5 BOC albums.
Great show guys. I think Alice Cooper would have fit even better than BOC. Now I've ranked these albums but I must say ahead of the list. I've never been into BOC as much as the other three principal groups. Now I've seen Kiss 10 times starting in 1975. I've seen Aerosmith 6 times starting in 1976 I've seen Ted Nugent 11 times starting in 1976 when he opened for Black Sabbath & blew them off the stage. Now Blue Oyster Cult I've seen them 3 times & it's never been because of them. I seen Rainbow open for them. I seen the Black & Blue tour with Sabbath when Dio was in the band. And the last time they was part of the Summer Daze Tour with Steppenwolf, Foghat & Pat Travers. Oh, & I've seen Alice Cooper 16 times starting in 1973. My list. 1. Rocks 2. Ted Nugent 3. Kiss 4. Cat Scratch Fever 5. Toys In The Attic 6. Free For All 7. Hotter Than Hell 8. Weekend Warriors 9. Ace Frehley 10. Dress To Kill 11. Aerosmith 12. Night In The Ruts 13. Love Gun 14. Get Your Wings 15. Aerosmith is my second favorite band and I think the debut is greatly underrated! Yes the production sucks but Movin Out, Mama Kin, One Way Street, obviously Dream On. Not on the same level as Toys or Rocks or Wings but underrated
I think for me Double Live Gonzo would take the #1 spot...On Your Feet/Some Enchanted Evening are good records (and about 'equal' for me), ahead of Survival Of The Fittest. I think Live Bootleg (Aerosmith) is kinda weak. No Kiss for me
Hey Pete, Can you do a PSA about tinnitus & taking care of your ears as a muic fan? I've been suffering from it because of too many loud shows & as a musician being onstage & too many hrs of recording with loud headphones on. Can't listen to music like I used to because certain frequencies that make the condition worse day to day. One thing that woulda been cool to see (or potentially still, minus KISS) would've been like a ranking of heavy glam catalogs from the 70s: Alice Cooper, Sweet, KISS, Angel.

In high school we cranked up Stranglehold to do warm ups before our wrestling matches. We did this with cranked up boom boxes linked around away matches … they hates us. 😂
I actually like Peter Criss’ 78 solo album more than Gene Simmons’ album. Yeah, not Kiss sounding, but as an album in a whole, it has catchy songs on it. As always, Martin and I are two dudes that like the same bands, but disagree on what we like from those bands. 😂
Rocks, Van Halen, Rocket to Russia, Love Gun, Rock and Roll Over, Kiss, Hotter Than Hell, Toys in the Attic, Dream Police, and Destroyer would be my top ten.
I think Kiss to music journalists were like the Japanese in a Chinese Kung Fu movie or like Republicans to the liberal media lol ..They either just don't get it or they do get it and pretend to be deaf....I mean those initial 9 albums from Kiss define quality rock !

Totally agree with ya, Pete, on Agents of Fortune. I bought it when I was a kid based on DFtR, got it home and thought, "WTF is this? Piano? I want screaming guitars. Pass..." One good song...

Kiss 70's is Killer!
Thanks for the segment you did in a previous video on City Boy. I went and bought three albums. I had never heard them before.

I love The Red and the Black. Great one.

Great show thank you per usual gents!
70's KISS was pure magic bud Ace Frehley always came up with a guitar solo you could hum too bad the drugs and alcohol took their toll on him.
Also, Eric was a metal drummer. Peter had that Swing.
This video brings up a topic I think would be great for the show. “What are the best eras of different bands?” In other words, was it the beginning of their careers, middle or latter part which produced the best albums? Some bands come out of the gate on fire, others change towards the end for the better.
Brilliant format gents love the shows
Kiss had 3 perfect albums ,Hotter,RNR Over and Creatures..Nugent had Tooth,Fang,Claw and some other near perfect albums as well. What a steady career he's actually had , putting out great/good albums for 56 years in 3 different bands.
When KISS had a healthy Ace Frehley playing those magical guitar solos in the 70's they were Rock And Roll at it's best. Then the drugs and alcohol took over, a real shame.
I've really been digging these Friday shows!!! Looking forward to the next one.
Rock and Roll Over is their best IMO. And I was a HUGE KISS fan in the 70's

Great show guys 👍👍. Thanks! from a 62 y/o rocker.
Absolutely loved this episode and I'm on board for anymore that continue in this vein (essentially; you'll understand if there's just some bands I don't care about).
Martin's on fuckn fire. Can't stop laughing.
Pete says “You’re breaking my heart Martin”…..Martin breaks my heart so often. Drives me nuts with some of the things he says about some of my favorite artists, songs, albums….yet I still like the guy haha. Love these ranking videos guys!!

Aerosmith in the 70's and part of the 80's were legendary and glorious.

Pretty much the classic rock list for beginners I commented on yesterday……. Lol classic and very correct Pete.
You really should add in the 3 albums from Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth that came out in 1990 for next weeks show.
Should be obvious: 1. Rust In Peace 2. Seasons In The Abyss 3. Persistence Of Time.
@@theartofhavoc5467 what the hell are you talking about?
The 1990 albums from Anthrax, Slayer and Megadeth. Weren't you?
@@theartofhavoc5467 yeah but I’m not saying rank them against each other, I’m saying instead of just ranking the 80s output from those bands, which is what Pete and Martin said they were doing, also throw in the 3 albums that came out in 1990. It makes more sense to me that way. If we are ranking them against each other I’d probably go with your ranking more times than not, but I can definitely see days where I’d have Seasons right with or slightly above Rust. I think Seasons is really underrated.
Okay, I skipped the last ten minutes of the show yesterday - NOW I know what's the deal. Sorry!
Have to strongly disagree with Martin on the "the black and white" Blue Oyster Cult albums. Those first 3 albums are phenomenal and their best in my view
Absolutely. He broke my heart with that take
My top ten would consist of all six of the BÖC albums, Aero’s Toys and Rocks, Destroyer by KISS and probably Teddy’s 🧸 first record due to the immense “Stranglehold.” Another great show, gentlemen.
Keep up the stellar and interstellar work!

Funny you brought up Alice. My first thought was Ted out Alice in would be a perfect 4. Kiss, Aerosmith, Alice and Boc. Thats a helluva
KISS, Ted and Aerosmith I associate together more than both Alice and BOC, but if you’re going to do American hard rock/proto-metal, Alice definitely belongs somewhere.
Soon as they announced this show I thought Alice should have been part of it more the BOC. If any I think they should be out

Great show as always! Be well Jamie.
AWESOME VIDEO THANKS REALLY ENJOYED THE VIDEO !!!
Career of Evil - its funny "I will not apologize" and its great.
The more I watch these guys the more it seems my tastes gravitate towards Pete vs Martin which is interesting because Martin has had so much influence in what I listen too now, crazy
Martin was shielding himself with Secret Treaties against possible retaliation from Pete 😂
The songs would sound superb if they weren't so underproduced and muffled. What were they thinking when they were in the studio?!
@@GregoryAlanBaileygamereviews Agreed, I think it was their label. Casablanca was about the quick buck when they first signed them and only kicked in more money after they broke big with Alive. We dodged one with their debut, while not perfect it’s definitely better. ✌🏻
Martin Martin Martin! Secret Treaties is darn near a perfect album! Shame on you. 😅
But I CAN agree with Pete on “Agents of Fortune”.
I had to laugh when Martin talked about "Tyranny & Mutation". Even though I love the first side, I really don't remember the songs on the 2nd side 😄
I prefer the second side of tyranny&Mutation to any "side" on their first three records.
Got to see Ted Nugent one time, he was opening for Aerosmith, who I managed to see ten times, and KISS twice. Never saw BOC, my loss. So I am mostly an Aerosmith fan, then early KISS, then Ted then BOC. They're all great, but I like what I like.
70's KISS was pure magic bud Ace Frehley always came up with a guitar solo you could hum too bad the drugs and alcohol took their toll on him.
Pretty much 100% agree with Pete, though I'd have the first Blue Oyster Cult album a little higher, love their black and white era.
I am not familiar with Blue Oyster Cult outside of the radio. So leaving them out my top 5 is; 1) Toys In The Attic 2) Rocks 3) Get Your Wings 4) Ted Nugent 5) Kiss
I never tire of Journey to the Center of the Mind, an oldies classic.
Brilliant as usual
Looking forward to Pete's review of BOC's Ghost Stories
Where did Martin rank BOC Agents of Fortune? I must have missed it.
I was totally surprised to see Pete rank Spectres as high as he did. I thought that was quickly ranking up as one of his top 5 BOC albums.
Great show guys. I think Alice Cooper would have fit even better than BOC.
Now I've ranked these albums but I must say ahead of the list. I've never been into BOC as much as the other three principal groups. Now I've seen Kiss 10 times starting in 1975.
I've seen Aerosmith 6 times starting in 1976
I've seen Ted Nugent 11 times starting in 1976 when he opened for Black Sabbath & blew them off the stage.

Aerosmith is my second favorite band and I think the debut is greatly underrated! Yes the production sucks but Movin Out, Mama Kin, One Way Street, obviously Dream On. Not on the same level as Toys or Rocks or Wings but underrated
Riff on Movin Out kicks ass! Great fuckin album despite lousy production. But that’s expected for first album in early 70s for unknowns.

You guys could do a live albums rating for these 4 groups. It would be Epic!
Musicians like Huey Lewis, Ozzy, Neil Young, Lars, Pete Townsend, Dave Grohl, Moby & Streisand have publicly dicussed of heir suffering from tinnitus. One loud show can cause it for a lifetime. It sucks! Thanks Pete, love your channel!

BÖC might be Martin's favorite band but he's not a fan of the first 3? 😂
Those are their best!
I actually like Peter Criss’ 78 solo album more than Gene Simmons’ album. Yeah, not Kiss sounding, but as an album in a whole, it has catchy songs on it. As always, Martin and I are two dudes that like the same bands, but disagree on what we like from those bands. 😂
If the Peter Criss album had more rock, it wouldn't be assumed as the worst of the four. The Gene Simmons album is not strong at all.
