Ahhh, the late 70s. Such a special time being a teenager in those days. I was 14 in 1978. Boy, did I have huge crushes on Robert Urich and Grant Goodeve back then.
I never watched Taxi as it went over my head as a kid but I knew it had to be a good show...just listen to the theme song. I loved it then as I do now. Man 1978, one year after Star Wars...all my grandparents were alive, biking, playing football in the street, open hydrants on hot days waiting for the ice cream truck. I had to do a book report in the fall of 78, so I did it on a Hardy Boys book the Vampire Trail. Great memories.

But in this case it was clearly aired on a particular night, specifically September 10, because it identifies the Battlestar Galactica premiere as "one week from tonight."
Aside from "Apple Pie" and "Battlestar Galactica," ABC's 1978-79 schedule was quite successful; "Mork & Mindy," "Taxi," and "Vega$" were all renewed for a second season. Sadly, this would be the final season for "Welcome Back, Kotter," "Starsky & Hutch," "What's Happening!!," "Carter Country," "The Hardy Boys," and "Operation Petticoat."
Whoops! I forgot to mention "Donny & Marie"! If my memory serves, the variety series was retitled "The Osmond Family Hour" by the time ABC pulled the plug. Thanks for commenting, @Bob Martin.

This was another universe of ABC-TV's history of Primetime, and its cultural value, like this 1978-79 Promotional reel, which showed how ABC fared in the late 1970s-and back then, all these Primetime shows are STILL better, then the ABC of 2014,,total shit!!
1978 in the the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota: KMSP-TV 9 was in its final year as an ABC affiliate, the station will continue to operate as an independent in 1979 as they will no longer be "The One." KSTP-TV 5 will be in its final year as an NBC affiliate, since they announced that they will be with ABC in 1979. The "groovy 5" logo (which is still used today in one form or another, started being used alongside NBC's peacock logo in 1969) WTCN-TV (now KARE) 11 will become the Twin Cities' NBC affiliate in 1979 after spending the previous eight years as an independent station.
The unidentified series at 5:39 was a sitcom called "Apple Pie" that lasted for all of two episodes. Dabney Coleman's character is confusingly referred to in some sources as "Fast Eddie" Murtaugh and in others as "Fast Eddie" Barnes.
Thanks for the info. The 78-79 season was a huge blockbuster for ABC. a lot of memorable programs on the network that fall. Its just a shame that they couldnt come up with a better jingle. "Were the one" sounded montonous and having the stars sing together, as nice as it looked on paper seemed cheesy and forced. The previous "Still the one" (which used no celebrities ) was perfect. However, when you're #1 you can get away with (nearly) anything, no matter how corny.
8:39 Mid-level executive: Wow, what a shot! Let's use all of it! CEO: But she's nobody. She's just a minor character in one of our lesser sitcoms. Mid-level executive: Who cares? People will want to watch her! CEO: But they might not even know what show she's in. Mid-level executive: ...Then they'll have to watch ABC all the time! CEO: Son, you've got a promotion coming.
I was 12 in 1978. ABC's dumb shows, Disco music and Carter in the Oval Office made for horrible times in the US then. Thankfully, "Van Halen" was released in 1978 making 1978 a bit happier and putting the nail in the coffin of Disco. RIP Edward
They would show the upcoming Fall TV shows promo sometime during September, and I think they usually ran throughout the month. I remember seeing one of these just before the evening news in the 70s.

3:38 Fonzie correcting Laverne's pronunciation of "Mork" didn't make it into the final cut of the episode. Thanks for sharing!
It’s hard to believe that this was 40 years ago. In fact, 1978 was the year I was born. Yes I’m showing my age but who on earth cares?
This was so great thanks!
A sizzle reel most likely used during the season up-front sales or for affiliates to see.

Even "Battlestar Galactica" was a success. It only got cancelled because it cost too much.
This was the voiceover man of my childhood. He built excitement and anticipation into the viewing experience. Who was he?
Ernie anderson
I was 1 year old when this aired. But the early 80s seems like the 70s and I remember these shows. I miss this era.

The great days of television. I don't watch anything from the Big 3 channels today. It just doesn't compare
It's a who's who of tv shows. Powerful lineup 👍❤️
