Tune in Tuesday nights from 1976-1982 to see Cindy Williams on Laverne & Shirley. Seeing Cindy in this for ABC made me smile. I love Penny too, but there's always been something beautiful about Cindy.
TV just isn't what it used to be, when the three networks would roll out their fall lineups with much fanfare. ABC would also give its logo a new look every year.
That my wife Bond Gideon at around 1.20 to 25 from her Hollywood Days as Lt Claire Reid in Operation Petticoat and the second Jill Foster on The Young & The Restless
this is a long shot, but if you get this response, I'd be interested in hearing whatever she recalls regarding this promotion. I do documentaries on classic TV and there is surprisingly little information on this promotion and I find no documentation on all the participants. There is some background given by Harry Marks and a couple of mentions in period trade publications, but that's it.
I don't think so. Its based on a 1973 Glen Cambell song. They indeed had versions that emphasized 'in a million' at the end of the jingle. In 1971, ABC was 'the place to be.'
This was the absolute peak of ABC’s dominance of the airwaves, right after Mary Tyler Moore and The Bob Newhart Show were cancelled by CBS. Fast forward a year later, ABC had made the fateful mistake of cancelling Battlestar Galactica and their long slide back into third place had begun.
Apparently, it looks like the opening of this video was cut off. I'm just curious as to when this originally aired. Was it a fall preview special like the networks used to do every fall before the new season began? Or was it just a regular commercial that was longer than your run-of-the-mill TV ad? I was only 4 when this originally aired. Ironically, I don't remember what this ad came from. But I vividly remember this ad campaign throughout the 1978 season.
I wonder if the Eight is Enough cast contributed to the promo? (Dick Van Patten, Betty Buckley, Laurie Walters, Susan Richardson, Grant Goodeve, Dianne Kay etc...)
Poor Ron Howard had to put up with lip syncing with other actors for this ad because ABC execs said so. Aren't we glad he ain't in Happy Days anymore and he became a director? Booya!
These image campaign songs are so easy to get stuck in your head for a week. Gotta love earworms.
The golden age of television the 1970's.

Great 😃👍 Memories from 1978
Adding this to my playlist...why don't they have songs like this on ABC anymore?
One word, DISNEY

When the stars asked, they were told "it's in your contract"
Totally agree. That would never happen today
@M Harris yeah..Even back then, those promos constitute cheesiness...
I would've gladly done it.
That and forcing them to make guest spots on The Love Boat and Fantasy Island.
ABC was not only a television network back then, it was also a record label until 1979
Where did the time go? I still remember this!!

Absolutely Awesome!
I totally appreciate wholesome, lighthearted advertising like this. 10/10
Sadly, half of those stars have passed away.
Mannnn, ABC had the best promos, I like all of them up to 1984
Great promo! I would rank this one up there with NBC Let's all Be there
Take back in time... love tha music of tha 70 "s & disco classic t.v.
"Well, we WERE the one..."
Love the song....
Actually's this song was based on ABC's old "We're the One in a Million" promo from 1971.
lukesams2 oh yeah........do YOU have that promo?

ABC obviously had a years-long obsession with the term "The One". lol
Four actually.
Yeah, one year of this, one of “Let Us Be the One,” and a couple years of “Still the One,” not necessarily in that order.
