  • You aren't seeing double. This time we have two Intermountain SD40-2's that I picked up off of FB Marketplace for a real good deal. The seller, who was extremely friendly and responsive, had these he was going to repaint for a project but he later found ones already in the livery he was looking for (Conrail if I remember correctly). So he had these sitting in a box and listed them for sale. I've been looking to build out a little Norfolk Southern roster and what better place to start than with my favorite diesel of all time, the EMD SD40-2. So let's see what we've got!
    Here is the Spookshow page on the Intermountain SD40-2.

    It's taking RUclips a long time to process this in HD for some reason. Please be patient and check back. I filmed part of this in 4K

    Congrats on the DCC unit! And yes, that Kato railer is wonderful, especially for steam engines.

      I got it in a Kato track starter set that I bought years ago. And I had just stuck it in a bag and into a box and forgot about it. This time when I got back into N scale stuff last year I found it and didn't realize what it was. Then I saw a RUclips video where somebody used one and had one of those "So that's what that is for!" moments. So I dug it out of storage and I've been hooked ever since.

    Wow nice find. So glad I found this channel. I got a steal about a month ago, picked up an old concor RDC and someone installed DCC into it. Not a bad find for 15 bucks

      Glad to have you here!. I got a score on a pair of locomotives like that late last year. Picked up a pair of old Life Likes, one was an SD9 and the other a GP18 I think. Neither run, turned out both were DCC, I reset the decoders on both of them and they work fine. Think I had $37 into both of them.

      I agree. I've got a few Broadway Limited locomotives that were real nice. And I knew Intermountain was supposed to be fairly good for the price but I wasn't expecting separately applied grab irons, PTC antennae, etc. These are my first Intermountain units among 2 others that I just got and will be getting around to taking a look at here in a following videos. And So far I am very impressed. I mean these units are only $144 brand new for DC. And if you look around online you can find units brand new with DCC/Sound for ~$200. That's a steal!

    Intermountain details are OK. Can't wait for the Scaletrains SD40!

      Honestly i'm kind of bummed at their tiny selection in roads yet they're offering two different Southern high-hoods. They should have added MKT or another road in there instead. As it stands now I may be in for a Chessie unit or one of the Southern high hoods as they'd fit into my preferred modeling period of 1980's.

    • @AbelG8781
      @AbelG8781 2 года назад

      @@Trains-With-Shane they'll be offering more. This is just a test run on how well they'll sell, and I know for a fact that they'll sell out instantly. Scaletrains actually delivers on time or earlier unlike horrible Intermountain where I've had N scale pre-orders still not in production since 2016.

      @@AbelG8781 YEah. I usually don't do preorders but if it'll help ScaleTrains come out with more SD40-2's i'll pick up either a Chessie or Southern.

    • @Trains-With-Shane
      @Trains-With-Shane  Год назад +1

      I don't think i've seen any SD40's. There is a current pre-order open for Intermountain L&N SD38-2's though. Midwest Model Railroad looks to be taking pre-orders. I know they're not 40's but close-ish. I've always liked the big porch SD38's and 40's.

    Last week the score was complete 1983 Bachmann N gauge Auto Train Set and High Baller set from same year w/ extras NIB. You know I just had to make sure they ran ok. LOL! Put them back w/the Stallion sets. I am just getting back into N scale after 40yrs.

    • @Trains-With-Shane
      @Trains-With-Shane  2 года назад +1

      Bachman N scale has a bit of a complicated history, quality wise. The first ones with the metal truck gears were pretty good and still are, then there was a long run where the truck gears were made of white plastic. And over time a large number of those have developed cracks especially in the axle gears. Later they switched to black plastic and that seems to have solved that issue but still had a weak motor. And the newer ones and what you get new today are actually really good runners (same goes for H.O. scale). I've got videos of just about everything on the channel here somewhere.

      This has the big fat metal gear set. I may have found 1 crack in a truck. NIB 1983 I did not complain @ the $. Found the deal through my real Hotrod's. How cool is that?@@Trains-With-Shane
