Amazing choice of music. Absolutely beautiful on its own, and perfect for the time it's meant to represent.
I love this lathe. I was mesmerised when I saw the longer version and wish we could see the development continue.
Clickspring out there with his barbecue tongs
Making ART !
Fascinating, not a clue what this is used for but still fascinating. It looks like I ought to connect an induction coil and put 100,000 volts across those points......
For turning. It's a "primitive" lathe. the bow keeps the string tensioned. String goes around a pulley. The bow is moved back and forth by hand, turning the pulley and the part between centers.
@@aerogfs Thank you for that, I never thought about the bow for turning the work. Here in England we have people called "bodgers" who make furniture with green timber using a similar technique.
Have you ever seen a pole lathe in use? This is a scaled down version for smaller turning jobs.
If you go to the link Clickspring provides above you will see it in action.
Watch the antikythera fragments video listed in the description to see the bow lathe in action.
I wanted to see the tool rest
Such a tease! I want to see it working!!!
He has the link to the full video in the description :)
👍👌👏 again and as always (video and work). Best regards, luck and health in particular.
People have done a lot with some simple tools
The entirety of human technology has been bootstrapped up from The two simplest hand tools. The Hammer and The Knife.
Opposable thumbs for the win!
Thanks for posting....
ruclips.net/video/wnv0DAR_gWA/видео.html is an interesting video of contemporary bow-lathe use, a chap making chess pieces in Marrakech.
The curious thing is that he uses all 4 limbs, to leave an arm free to work the bow. Chair bodgers with a pole lathe used a springy sapling to allow a foot to work the bow. Both work.
😎✌
for some reason i hear old town road from the song lol
👌👌👌
Eh?
CNC it!
