worth noting for Pia, it's one or more "to a player" so if you attack each of your opponents in a four person game with a thopter, that's still 6 energy. Not bad at all as for the Peema Trailblazer, while you absolutely can use the original's ability to draw five, you can also pay the three energy to make a copy of it with Saheeli, then exhaust the token to make it a 7/7 and draw seven cards for the cost of 9 energy. It seems a whole lot of the cards in this deck become immensely more powerful once you factor in her ability to copy them and make their base stats 5/5
gavin verhey talked about why there's only 2 commander decks. i like the idea that they only make an amount of commander decks that make sense for the individual set
2:00 correction here, Doubling Season doesn't double the counters put onto you as a player. You are not a permanent, else you'd just lose every game to an Beast Within
I'm almost 100% certain the confusion wasn't thinking that the player is a permanent, but rather that doubling season affects all counters and not just those going onto permanents.
9:00 Not "all your planeswalkers", it's "each kind of counter on target permanent" not "each permanent", and the 2nd option is counters YOU have, like experience counters, energy counters, also (unavoidably) poison counters.
Some notes on Saheeli: 1. Cloudstone Curio specifically doesn't trigger on artifacts. That being said, there's still totally ways to go infinite with her energy gain, it's just a bit more complicated. 2. Saheeli is also super similar to Mishra, Eminent One. Her hitting any kind of permanent is absolutely wild though. An example of something weird you could do with her is make a copy of a fetchland to ramp yourself.
Hullbreaker horror sol ring and a 2 drop mana rock is a solid combo for the deck if anyone need examples. Also none of the cards will be dead in the deck so that's a bonus.
I think trying to go infinite with saheeli is the wrong move: yeah if you cast infinite artifacts you'll win, that generally happens when you cast infinite artifacts. But saheeli doesn't really help you win there, she enables a potential other wincon. What are we talking about, a 6 cards combo at a minimum? Just play for value and you'll get a much more consistent deck, instead of a janky pile of combos that would work better with an actual payoff commander
Part of what makes Satya good as a combo deck is that white has energy inputs/outputs that go infinite if you copy them with Satya but are also just useful bodies to have on the battlefield if you haven’t assembled a combo yet. Because of its design and colors, Saheeli requires a much larger investment of resources into dedicated combo pieces if you want to go infinite with it.
This deck looks great and particularly the mana base when compared to older decks. It not far off from what I would see in a budget deck. You're absolutely right that they could throw a Bond land into each deck and it would be fine. Yet one could argue that some people may only end up playing one deck against the other because they're sold as a pair, and then the land wouldn't enter untapped as you need more than 1 opponent. On the other hand, that could also encourage the player to find a group to play against. Also Gavin put out a video talking about how this set only has 2 decks, and mentioned that some other sets this year will also only have 2 decks. I'm glad not every set will have 4 decks, because not every set needs 4 decks. Some of the Universe Beyond stuff works well with 4 decks though. I can't imagine trying to cram the 40k IP into 2 decks. If I'm not mistaken, there's still enough in the 40k universe to make another 2 decks at least, focusing on the Orks and Aeldar I think.
Dark Aeldar, Tau and the Mars Mechanicum could also have a list each Fingers crossed we revisit 40K, I still think it’s one of the best UB products to date
I didn't see it until now, but with high CMC creatures, Aetherflux Conduit makes Nissa free. With a few pieces you could definitely turn that into playing your entire deck for free. EDIT: Aetherflux Conduit specifies mana spent. So they definitely wanted to try and avoid some infinites like that.
