  • This week Ireland's fastest rising musician and Grammy-nominated artist Andrew Hozier Byrne met Jarlath for an insightful chat about his journey which many people will be surprised to hear began with him being spotted by Louis Walsh at a school talent show. Hozier opens up about his admiration for his parents, the music he has never shared, that difficult Gay Byrne interview, his struggles at Trinity College and how his career has not been the skyrocket that many people think it has.
Hozier explains the sequence of events which led to Take Me To Church becoming a viral sensation, his anxiety over the decision sell his music to Dr Dre, a startling revelation about Saturday Night Live and why he feels the need to censor himself in interviews.

This is the most substantive interview of Hozier I've heard - it was really incredible to hear him talk about how he got started in making music as well as the technical side of making music. Really well done.

This interview was so well done. Thank you! Finally someone who knows how to form a proper question with actual follow up questions. And FINALLY someone who recognizes and appreciates Hozier's intellect and open access to his 'process'. I believe I speak for many who truly appreciate an artists work with a deep absorption, seeming almost at a cellular level. Meaning for that absorption to be complete, there is a need to connect as deeply as can be understood, to the private truth that is being revealed by the search. Hozier understands how to deliver the elements to make that journey possible - in his lyrics (his writing is a topic of conversation unto itself. He's an amazing lyricist) his music, and the passion in which he expresses it. I enjoy hearing how he thinks. His authenticity is as pure as it gets. He's VERY special, and extremely rare.

When I listen to this, I miss this man a lot. I am imagining him (in that black tshirt from september ..first time without layers) saying this to me (not the journalist). That would be a nice conversation so thank you for conversing, Hozier!

42:19 -- on preferring smaller gigs: Same thing Amy (Winehouse) wanted. She spoke of it in an interview. Sadly, the 'powers-that-be' that were around her didn't see it that way. They pushed, and pushed and pushed her to do and to be something that she didn't want to be. Good for you Hozier for sticking up for what you believe.
1:03:08 -- Good Advice from Hozier's uncle....just do it yourself.

È un ragazzo molto affascinante anche perché è istruito e non dice cose futili.
I testi delle sue canzoni hanno un significato
    Non canta per fare ascolti.
    Lui è appassionato
    È concreto
    Non è commerciale❤
