- It's summer in the city and we're in need of a low-alcohol, yet high-flavor beer. Enter Wyeast Brand Manager Michael Dawson with the cure: Boat Bitter. Dawson has some great advice for crafting a superb session-strength British Bitter utilizing a limited edition yeast strain, Wyeast 1026 British Cask Ale. And if you know Dawson, you know you'll want to grab a beer and a notepad for this episode. Brew Small! [Original postdate: August 8, 2013] #homebrew #britishbitter #allgrainbrewing

Thanks Chip for keeping things going. I've been watching you guys for about a year or so now. And I owe my success in homebrewing to you guys. Cheers.
Seeing Chip and Dawson together again was like a breath of fresh air (especially after trying to watch the latest episode of "Brewing TV". You boys ate
This is my favorite episode of C&B. I've watched this thing a whole lot. Might have to try to brew this up.
Whenever I'm out of the UK for any extended period of time , this is the exact type of beer I crave in my dreams. Nice to know people in the USA are appreciating it.
I blew through a keg of this I made in about a month, well me and some friends who came over on one Saturday night.
Loved BTV and still watch old episodes. Was disappointed when the newest video was put up and I recognized no one. Happened on ChopAndBrew today and it made my day and possibly month.Glad to watch you guys again! Keep brewing and passing on the knowledge.
Thank you Gentlemen. It is really is a treat to see the two of you working together again.
Congrats on 10!! Looking forward to seeing many, many more!
Never, ever stop including the bloopers please. They're always great! Awesome episode too, as usual.
Badass! Thanks for keeping it going Chip!
So awesome to see you guys back together.
Awesome. Glad to see you guys teaming up again.
Thank you Chip for keepin things goin. I've enjoyed your chop n brew shows. I've been watching you guys for about a year or so. And you have been so helpful. Thanks Chip. ( and Michael )
Awesomeness, good seeing Dawson back in the video....keep them coming!
My absolute favorite style of homebrew by far. Great subject matter and execution.
Awesome!!! I missed Dawson so much!! Seriously made my day seeing you two back together!
Great to see Dawson back, congrats on the the new job man.
Great show again gents. Glad to see you both on screen - and you guys have really made the noobie brewing experience amazing for me!
Awesome to see Dawson back on the youtubes!
Great video! Yes we all get to see the new Wyeast products though you guys! Chop and Brew!
Great to see you guys together again! At some point there needs to be a 3 hopketieer episode!
Man it's so good seeing you guys back together!!! I forgot how good the chemistry was.
Chip, great work man! Really enjoyed this episode.
I love this channel. As a new home brewer, I learn a ton from all your episodes, and you guys are always entertaining. Thanks for all the awesome episodes and beer recipes.
Nice to see you guys to a episode together.. Keep it up!!!
Good to see two thirds of the team back... now to get the last third! Cheers!
Mike Dawson! Home Brew messiah!
THIS IS AWESOME! The crew is back! (mostly). You two and Keeler are one of the reasons I got into home brewing.
Loved the Bromance! Cheers fellas! All the best, Cheers!
First Gold hops, used them recently here in the UK and they are currently my fave. Inspired and educated by you guys and your video's on BTV when I first started brewing all grain back in Dec last year and loving Chop and Brew, great to see you and Dawson back brewing together. Keep em coming!
Awesome episode! I feel inspired to finally try brewing that low-gravity saison I've been thinking about for months.
Awesome work Chip and Michael. A mix of great brewing information and a relaxed and comedic environment is what you brought to BTV. And, unfortunately, what is missing from the interwebs today. Please try and find a way to keep the genius coming to us thirsty viewers.
Nice video, enjoy seeing you guys brewing together again.
Nice to see another episode. Reminded me of the old BrewingTV days!
Cheers
Nice to see Dawson in the video. Good job on the video.
this episode makes me feel so warm and fuzzy inside
nice to see the band back togther. You guys do nice work. thanks for your efforts.
sean
Thanks guys really enjoyed this episode cheers.
I'd pay money to see Chip, Dawson and Keeler start putting episodes out again.
First time watcher first time commenter. Way to go guys. Super cool, descriptive unhyped brew guy video. I saw the Wyeast cask ale years ago. Never tried it. Now i will!
DAWSON! Awesome episode brah! Loving it!
Yay Micheal Dawson :) This has made my day
Great to see you guys again. Although I've used Mr. Beer on & off for about a decade, I consider myself a homebrew noob (my 3rd 5 gal batch is in primary). I've learned so much from older videos with both of you in them and (bonus) I was entertained. Thanks for being out here in the interwebs. I also do most of the cooking at my house cause I love to cook. Subbing and look forward to catching up the previous 9 episodes and soaking up any other knowledge I can. Chop Chop Brew Brew, lol.
yaaaa...lawnmower beer!..I got a few recipes that I do and its always down to or below 4 percent. when its that low and you do it right, it will always seem like a really good "hop tea"...and you can drink it all day and not get wasted. thanx chip & dawson!
Thanks goodness SOMEONE finally said something about that blooper. That is exactly what I said. It was an inspired moment of awesomeness. Pass it along to JC.
Chip, you should come back down to Alabama and shoot an episode. We're no longer felons!
I am so coming up to meet you guys next year at NHC. You guys rock!! Preach on Chip and Dawsome!!
Perfect team, we miss you Dawson
great information and tips presented in a easy/relaxed way! to bad that my country homebrew culture doesn't exist... only two brands of beer dominate 90% of the market... keep up us sending our videos!!! cheers!!!
At least Dawson is back missed him for these 10 episodes
wow, i forgot CnB has been around this long, i was looking for this episode under Brewing TV. great episode. drinking my own bitter, figured i'd watch this classic. "it's a poem" hahaha
Thanks for coming back to it! Planning to get some Dawson cameos back in the mix this summer.
GAH! I wish I'd been able to see this 10 days ago. I'd have done my MO/Halltertau smash exactly like this, instead of the 5% I just did. Just a hair more top up and I'd have been 3.5... Great stuff Chip - really enjoying your show, and nice to see Dawson back.
it's great to see ya both together, i
Michael Dawson at his best !
Canoe Cam! Thanks for the great episode. I'm going to brew some of this.
Thanks for this one man - inspired me to head home and brew a 3.5% Maris session bitter. Awesome stuff!
I'm brewing this next week! This is a perfect beer for Florida!
Thanks guys -- excellent video and I'll be looking for Wyeast 1026 for the Mild I plan to brew. Keep up the good work!!!!
Love this. I felt warm and fuzzy, too. Hope to brew the Boat Bitter and the Imp Black Rye IPA... Dig the Nikobrew tee!
I just cried :))))) Tears of joy :)!!
Aaah i found it, LoL, wasn't sure if this episode existed. Good stuff Chip! Keep up the good work Dawson!
together again with beer madness!
Great episode, I'm brewing low abv. I enjoy a beer that you can have a couple without getting sloshed.
Really liked this one. Dawson's great as a host/co-host, hope you have him back.
was looking to do a low abv bitter, i have learned so much from watching your videos here and previously of NB as a home brewer since march of 2012. thanks guys
Thanks for your support and good luck with the Boat Bitter. I'm going to brew it soon and put it in a cask for a party!
Nice one guys!
Hey, remember that time when Chop and Brew was awesome and reminded me of how awesome BTV was? That time was NOW.
Glad I stuck around to the end of the outtakes. :) Fun to be mentioned. This is a good episode. Well done. Nice to see Dawson back in action, and fun to learn more about making low gravity beers, something that, like you talk about NHC, you hear a lot about but don't actually see a lot getting made. I myself have a hard time spending the time and effort of a brew day for "only" a low gravity beer. But, if you have a good reason for it, do it.
His is how professionals roll. Chop for chop! Brew for brew!
Chip, did you really sing what I thought I heard you sing at the end? "Justin Crossley, I wanna fine my beer with your hair!" That's hilarious!
MORE DAWSON PLEASE! LOVE THAT CAT
Classic episode, I’ve seen this one originally and still enjoy it. Miss your guitar soundtrack Chip, bring it back dude.
Will do! Been playing a lot more recently. I'll get some tracks recorded for future eps! Thanks for the good word.
Great video guys. Like you says brewing low gravity, well attenuated beers is not easy, and really tests a brewers skills. I bet if more pro-brewers produced ales of this type, it would really separate the good brewers from the best brewers.
Cheers from Walla Walla, WA
Holy shit!!! This is the best thing ever! Brilliant, just brilliant! This made my week! Thank you!
AWESOME!
Nice u am definitely doing that recipe. Gonna chop it down (lol) to five gallons. Congrats on 10 Eps
Brewed this beer with Nottingham yeast. Otherwise it's identical. Keep your volumes in check and this beer comes out as a perfect lawnmower beer.
They are usually built in a way that they are elevated/lifted in place above the ball valve by stainless steel "legs" for lack of better term. And fit right up against the wall of the kettle to keep grain from getting below. Bazookas work well though as well.
Whoops ... are the reason I got back into brewing. Thank you.
Lazy Saturday since I found out the transfer station for the dump was closed. I'm sure you allready saw the rant on Facebook 😂. You really need to get Dawson on more videos. Found a Distillery 45 minutes east that makes their own malt. 35 bucks for a sack of Pilsen, Vienna, Pale or, Munich malt. They also have wheat and red rye. Need to ask if the wheat is malted next time I am in. That would be fun to do a 100% wheat wit. Anyway, I digress. My plan this fall and winter is to really start delving into Mashmaker's recipes.
He's coming up in two videos in the next week or so... Oldtoberfest and Festbier!
I love bitter. Have a cask of it I'll be serving on handpull at the Michigan Homebrew Festival.
I'd like to sign up with the Church of Dawson, where do I apply? His sermons are right up my alley
Thanks Chip. I was having visions of eliminating yeast starters.
haha 12:24, fade of emotions. Enjoyed watching on brewing TV now happy to find this channel
I never noticed that. Even in editing. NICE!
I need to brew this for fishing this summer
Loved Dawson's All the Pretty Horses reference. Cormac McCarthy rocks. Hey Chip! A Cormac McCarthy inspired beer could be cool, eh?
More Dawson!
nice episode guys. this looks like simething that could be good to have around. any idea how a cider would turn out using the yeast cake?
Same with a fruit smoothie, the chewing action produces extra enzymes from saliva to break down other components in the beer. I imagine it acidifies the beer further to convert the minerals into their salt form, but that's only a guess really...
Yea I was just curious what kind, I know I've seen a bazooka screen in one of the kettles at some point.. Was curious how he kept the false bottom above the valve opening too.
When agencies are telling you to stay home, and the locals are unnecessarily hoarding groceries...brew this beer: Boat (the Antidote) Bitter.
I hoarded homebrew extract kits. I got two more left and that should get me through May.
crowtservo It’s funny- my only motivation to jump to BIAB has been the cost and availability of grains. But deep down I wanna stick with extract and keep surprising everyone with ‘how authentic’ my batches taste. 😉
I did Boat with nothing but DME. No grains at all. Came out incredibly clear and balanced. Cheers.
Session Bitter is a regular rotation in my house and one of my favorite styles. However, I can never seem to nail the "cask" flavor of all the great milds/bitters I tried in England. I've tried several different english yeast strains, but never the 1026 so I wonder if that's what I'm missing?
What was the volume of that Wyeast pitching vessel Dawson used? It looks much larger than a smack pack. Where do I get one?
When/will we ever see the Cobra on C&B? I am glad you are putting out videos. I was bummed about BrewingTV going off.
What does Dawson use for the bottom of his mash tun?
Go Chip! Go Dawson!
Great to see Dawson and at Wyeast...where's Jake?
Totally thought that was the guy from the Northern Brewer videos
You should make every episode with brand manager of Wyeast Michael Dawson and maybe special guests like independent artist Jake Keeler... I dont know what it is but i think that there might be good chemistry with that trio going on just a hunch.
Homebrew ?... do you add gypsum and salt in the boil and what time?... ty in advance
More Chip and Dawson! Ive missed you guys. Get keeler back up in this thing too
