I'm going to take a wild guess that the stock ring gap might have been a deciding factor in why it blew up. When you add boost you really need to gap those piston rings more.
Bingo! That gap closed up popped the top of the piston.

@@TheXbookiex When you spray nitrous or add boost to an engine the piston ring gap has to be enlarged. If the gap isn’t big enough and the heat and cylinder pressure gets high enough the ends of the ring will push against each other and then physically break the ring-land of the piston. When you gap the rings larger you sacrifice a bit of the seal in the cylinder but it is necessary to prevent damage.

No. Atmospheric pressure in KS is about 29.7inHg, which is roughly 100kpa, so positive manifold pressure was only about 57kpa, or 8psi. 8psi on a stock 5.3 should run somewhere from 450-500hp, which it *shouldn't* have blown up, but given the ding dong who tuned it and the blatant disregard for any safety measures of the ding dong who blew it up... I'm honestly not terribly surprised.

My first vehicle was a Ranger. I had bought it from a family friend and at that time, it was already 10 years old. It lasted me another 11 years before everything decided to die all in the same year (pcm died, vacuum locking hubs rotted away and were replaced with manual hubs, and then the engine died, and even more stuff.) It survived an accident with a 700 lb moose, and the moose actually broke a bunch of things that weren't going to pass inspection. Because of that, the insurance company ended up replacing a few parts that I would have had to replace anyways and it ended up saving me about $1500. The 3.0 they came stock with only made 190 hp, and I can't imagine having more than 5 times the power under my foot of a Ranger. When you'd try to go more than 70 mph on the highway, it would shake.
