72 points 28 rebounds in a must win game between the 2 players is ridiculous. The playoff version of the lakers from 2001-2002 is possibly the most dominating team in nba history they were 8-1 against prime tim duncans spurs, 6-0 against portland, swept the kings in 2001 and went 8-1 in the finals (would've been 8-0 if not for allen iverson miracle game 1 in 2001) this was their only challenge in either year.

To get this over with: Both teams had the right to be complaining, the Kings just do so to this day because they lost, and because Game 6 was much more blatant than any other game in the series, therefore easier to stick to people's minds. If you just isolate plays you can make the case that it was rigged for both teams. That's just how easy it is for the truth to be distorted. Shaq was getting calls in Staples, and in Arco Arena he was getting called for bullshit fouls and he was getting the shit beat out of him but the refs called nothing. Divac's flops worked in Sacramento but not in LA. And let's face it, you can't give HIM the benefit of the doubt. I'm not gonna get into this whole Game 2 thing when Kobe got food poisoning because we can never know for sure what happened. In Game 4, which by the way the Kings blew despite leading by 24, Divac could just grab the rebound and seal the game at the free throw line, but he foolishly slapped the ball and it ended up to Horry who (God knows why) was waiting at the three point line, and we all know what happened next. In Game 5, the ball was out of bounds off Webber but they gave it to the Kings and Bibby hit the game winner after CWebb freed him up with an illegal screen, then Kobe was fouled on his game winning attempt. In Game 6, Lakers were indeed getting all the calls in the 4th, it was a complete joke. But in Game 7, the Kings choked plain and simple. I recall Christie and Peja airballing open shots, and the Kings as a team missing like half their free throws. Only Bibby showed up for that game. Even if Game 6 was set up, it does not mean they wanted the Lakers to win the series, they just wanted it to go to seven games. If Lakers had won Game 5 maybe it would be the other way around in Game 6 (though I seriously doubt that). In the end, Kings had the Lakers where they wanted them but they just choked. The way things turned out the Kings have no one to blame but themselves. Pretty sure 99% of the people who say the series was rigged for the Lakers to win have never watched the whole series and they're just repeating what they heard.
This has nothing to do with who is complaining. Tim Donaghy officiated the game, and said that it was called heavily in the Lakers' favor. I'm not a fan of either team, but it was blatantly obvious watching it back in 02. The game WAS rigged. It's not a matter of opinion.
***** All he did was confirm what many people who watched the game already knew. I watched the game with a friend, neither of us fans of either team, and we knew it was rigged in 02.

sizzlinfr I watched the series. The Lakers got the calls in game 6 and game 7. The series would never have gone 7 games if the refs hadn't rigged it. That's my point. They gave the Lakers the series. It's as simple as that.
I just looked it up 99/00 ppg Shaq 29 Kobe22 00/01 Shaq 28 Kobe28 01/02 Shaq 27 Kobe25 02/03 Shaq 27 Kobe30 03/04 Shaq 21 Kobe24 2 times Kobe averaged more points 2 times Shaq did and one time they tied how did Shaq carry Kobe they carried each other Shaq got the finals MVP because he played great in those 3 finals and the offensive triangle was designed for Shaq to get the ball because it was always a mismatch with Shaq no one was big or strong enough to guard him.
Neither "carried" the other. Only role players get "carried". The reason people say that about Kobe is because Shaq was so dominant in the FINALS that he blew Kobe's stats out the water. It's a similar thing between Lebron and Kyrie last year. Kobe/Kyrie outscored Kobe/Lebron in earlier rounds but as rounds got tougher, the best players dominated more.
when you have two hall of famers, in or almost to their prime, and have them both have a good night. Absolutely unstoppable. I think kobe and shaq are the best duo of all time.
@@10milliondogstorturedinchi92 wow blaming the Refs how weak is that. Where the refs to blame in game 7 too or how about the other 2 games the Kings lost?
The Lakers never lost another game in the playoffs after this one. Kobe Bryant averaged 28.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 5.5 apg, on 48/57/84 from Game 6 vs Kings until the end of the title run.
Kobe scored 31 attempting 0 threes & making 0 threes this game. Kobe had Demar Derozan mentality not shooting 3s often in the Lakers first 3 peat. Kobe attempted only 1.7 threes per game shooting 25% from 3 in the 02 season. It was all paint shots, midrange & post ups for Kobe that year
You absolutely can't watch yesteryear's NBA game with today's context. Volume 3pt shooting was irrelevant back then in the illegal defense days. The NBA mostly shot 12ft-18ft jumpers. The 3pt shot was considered to be a 'low percentage' shot back then based on league average in field goal percentage beyond the arc. Coaches were adamant against players shooting 'too many' 3s.
It's nice to actually watch a real competitive playoff game like it was back in the day. No teams just laying down and taking it in the ass or melting down and giving it away to lesser teams like they do today.
As dominant and skillful Kobe and Shaq were, you gotta admit the refs really helped them out too. Makes you almost wonder if the entire NBA has a sensationalism agenda where the refs will nudge a game in the favor of whatever story the crowd will love the most.

If you watches the series in Sacramento shaq was getting the shit beat out of him with no calls and in la he was getting calls . In la vlade couldn't buy a call but in Sacramento got every flop and phantom call imaginable. Just how it went.
Nope, it wasn't it was in 2006. This game was rigged to go to game 7. He even said so. He said something about referee A and referee F.Not to mention the Kings had way more free throw attempts
Grumpy Cat He said 2002 as well. This was the most obvious series. They were clearly favoring the Lakers in game 6. They even counted a halfcourt 3-pointer that Samaki Walker made AFTER the halftime buzzer.
hartsickdisciple Lol it was not Tim Donaghy. Do some research other than trusting what others tell you. It wasn't rigged in favor of the lakers, but to make sure it reaches game 7. Look at the stats. It clearly shows that the Kings had way more ft Attempts. The Lakers just made a higher percentage, making 176 while the kings made 175. The reason the Lakers won is because the Kings choked that 7th game which to be honest, was a fair game.
Grumpy Cat I'm not trusting what anyone else told me. I watched Tim talk about it. Free throw attempts don't necessarily show which team was being favored. Maybe the Lakers committed more legit fouls, and the Kings simply played much cleaner. From having watched the series, I believe that.
hartsickdisciple Search the game up on google. Look at any source. On the referees section, not one says Tim Donaghy. If the game was truly in favor of the lakers, then most of those fouls wouldn't have been called against them. The officials would have said nope, you weren't fouled, play on. In addition, if the Lakers literally were called for more fouls, wouldn't the refs call even more bs calls on the Kings to get them more ft opportunities?
Jake Holston How was that an offensive foul at the end? Bibby has Kobe by the waist with both of his hands and kobe swoops his arm through and an incidental elbow hits him. Basically, if I had the ball and cleared through like they teach you. If they were up in your face and have a hold of you, they will get hit by you clearing through, It wasn't kobe swinging the elbow just him trying to get through a guy holding him. If, someone taller is guarding kobe there the forearm hits them thru the chest and it just looks like regular contact when people are fighting for position. Just because they are contact does not mean they are a foul. Incidental contact is allowed.
like a boss Shaq was like 36 and had been injured for the last couple of years. There is no comparison between the Lakers Shaq, one of the greatest centers of all time, and the aged Shaq on the Cavs.
NBA on NBC. That commercial break music was ill. 2000-2002 Shaq...best player ever... I'd take that Shaq first in any fantasy draft to go start a hypothetical team.
Nothing "rigged" about this. Shaq and Kobe were unstoppable. Got a few favorable calls at home- calls in the series prior to this game had favored Sacramento- but nothing beyond that. The Lakers were more aggressive. Shaq got fouled every time he caught the ball. Look at Pollard and Divac chop at him. Only difference is that in this game he made his foul shots. This is what happens when you have an elite perimeter player relentlessly attacking the rim and an elite post player with 100+ pounds on the guys guarding him getting DEEP position. You get fouled. Don't blame the refs. The Kings got beat.
LOL this is the most rigged NBA game of all-time. They were calling every little ticky tack foul and phantom call on the Lakers while Shaq and Kobe were allowed to beat the living shit out the Kings players, especially Mike Bibby. Every time the Kings built a lead , the ref whistles started blowing. Look how many free throws the Lakers got in the 4th quarter alone? The Kings were robbed this game, period. That being said, Donaghy was not the refs. The crooked refs were Dick Bavetta, Bob Delaney and Ted Bernhardt
It's well documented that the refs threw this series. The climax of this disgrace being game 6.. Sacramento can thank Tim Donaghy for their missing ring the same way Carmello Anthony can thank Darko Miličić and the Pistons front office for his missing fingerware
Their is no proof of it that this game was rigged people need too shut the fuck and accept the facts that Lakers were the better then Kings and they showed it

Kobe haters be like : " Shaq did it all by himself " ...
Not by himself but you did see how dominant he was right?! & the offensive foul Kobe got away with at the end
And plus shaq joined lebron and they still weren't able to win a championship. Just shows how much trash lebron is
like a boss Shaq was like 36 and had been injured for the last couple of years. There is no comparison between the Lakers Shaq, one of the greatest centers of all time, and the aged Shaq on the Cavs.
***** lol that was clearly an elbow to the face... lol haha people are so damn biased get real... that guy is a blind laker fan...
last years finals ended 4-1 heat. And that was one of the most anticipated finals in a while. Two of the best in the game going at it in KD and LBJ.
good ol times i love this shit
I bet Kobe wishes he could still jump like that.
this game was a monstrosity. i've never seen a sporting event so blatantly rigged as this.
Please. Shaq should've been at the line every. single. trip. down.
Yeah it was. To think Shaq is fouled every time is stupid. Lol
the kings choked like they always did back these days, cry about it..
NBA on NBC. That commercial break music was ill. 2000-2002 Shaq...best player ever... I'd take that Shaq first in any fantasy draft to go start a hypothetical team.
agreed most dominant 4 chips 3 FINALSmvp
Greatest Duo
The Kings got beat.
thank you! nothing more than the usual home calls.
lol kobe bryant elbows bibby and you calling it "favorable call". just think again mate. tim donaghy the ref of this game said himself it was rigged
If you dont think this is rigged, you are fucking stupid
LOL this is the most rigged NBA game of all-time. They were calling every little ticky tack foul and phantom call on the Lakers while Shaq and Kobe were allowed to beat the living shit out the Kings players, especially Mike Bibby. Every time the Kings built a lead , the ref whistles started blowing. Look how many free throws the Lakers got in the 4th quarter alone? The Kings were robbed this game, period.
That being said, Donaghy was not the refs. The crooked refs were Dick Bavetta, Bob Delaney and Ted Bernhardt
Game was rigged AF
It's well documented that the refs threw this series. The climax of this disgrace being game 6.. Sacramento can thank Tim Donaghy for their missing ring the same way Carmello Anthony can thank Darko Miličić and the Pistons front office for his missing fingerware
Their is no proof of it that this game was rigged people need too shut the fuck and accept the facts that Lakers were the better then Kings and they showed it
shaq was a beast!
Regardless of fouls called, Shaq = dominance. I'm not even a Lakers fan
kobe haters be like : another game kobe was carried cause shaq had 10 more points and 6 rebounds than him...... lol
Shaq was a beast back then but Kobe is the real deal. Best player in the history in the sport and it's not even close. The only GOAT
Kiriakos Dimtsis HATERS, KOBE GOAT
@@maddmoney9342 First off if Kobe ever thought he was better than Jordan he would wake up, slap himself and call Jordan to apologize,
Now as far was why the Lakers won this series, it goes in this order of importance
-The referees
-Robert Horry bailing Shaq and Kobe out in game 4
-Shaq
-Kobe.
@@xaviervega468 YEP JORDAN IS THE GOAT, HORRY NEVER WON SHIT & LEBUM BLAMES STILL NOT & NEVER WILL BE BETTER THEN KOBE @ ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WIT BASKETBALL
W'S N L'S ( KOBE ALL DAY )
@Greg Hubbard KAREEM IS THE GOAT. .sit yo ass down 😂😂😂💀
I remember watching this as a kid and although I was happy of the outcome, this was the most ridiculous and rigged playoff series I have ever witnessed in my 30 yrs of living..
Lol. The kings blew game 4 and 7. This game was supposedly rigged but the kings chocked.
@@barbarapaparella1833 exactly..
Dang Kobe... dang Shaq!
The Shag and Kobe show. The best
bitter kings fans still mad
+NAWLEJisPOWR Yet, the Sacramento Kings still had chances to prevent a L.A. Lakers' three-peat had they won either Games 4, 6 or 7, but didn't.
+joesakic91 bruh, game 6 rigged AF.lmfao Lakers had a 27 free throws in the fourth quarter LMFAOOOOOOO.
TheAmazingDude And even then, the Lakers still have to make the absolute most of them. ROFLMAO!
@@markangelorivamonte4900 game 6 was not rigged Lakers won Kings missed all of their free throws over
im a huge lakers fan and this game was definitely rigged. Also ex referree Tim Donaghy who refereed that game and was later convicted of federal felony conspiracy charges, admitted to rigging this game in order to get a game 7 to generate more ticket sales and higher ratings. Some of the kings games were also rigged in the Kings favor but this particular one was for the Lakers
shaq was steppin over the line on the free throws. hence the high percentage
Shaq and kobe was the equivalent to what golden state is now
referees dominated this game, so many phantoms call on shaq
Robert Balejik last time i checked the NBA is played by NBA players not refs so stop your crying bitch
Oh god i just wanted to watch some Kobe. That 'foul' at 1:28, i couldn't even keep watching. If you think this series was well officiated your delusional.
Your a fucking blind fuck lakers won
@@alyssalemus4462 Yes the Lakers cheated.
@@TheMrKobeBryant2012 how did they cheat?🤔 Did the refs make the shots?🤔🤔
Wasn’t rigged the queens lost fair and square. Just like 2006 finals wasn’t rigged. Y’all just salty and mad, we got a 3 peat haha
SHAQ IS A BEAST
Yung Kobe. playing like he own the game
Refs for MVP!!!
oldmansouthside did the refs stop them every time ? Did the refs make them miss they free throws in game 7? Oh ok
@@jamesdawny1855 I didn't know the refs blocked Peja's 3 in Game 7 LOL
SO WHAT? IF THE KINGS WERE THE TRUE CHAMPIONS THEY WOULD HAVE WON GAME 7. SIMPLE AS THAT.
Honest fans know that the Kings are the true champions of 2002
Atlee Lang no they weren’t they shouldn’t of won game 5 so they gave the lakers 6 to let it be fairly decided in game 7
i really miss this days
3:25 is a amazing example that Shaq is a top 3 center
Most of these fouls were just nonexistent. Some of the worst calls I've ever seen all in one game.
That non-call on Kobe at the end of the game was BRUTAL
I agree Kobe elbowed Bibby maybe unintentionaly but still elbowed him but Bibby was holding Kobes waist before that which is also illegal
Bibby < Linsanity
love that nbc classic song
Shaq is just a beast! It sucked for anybody that had to guard him.
imagine kobe,shaq,and gasol 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Jordan and Shaq would have bumped heads for sure, he would have been way hared on Shaq then Kobe
Kobe, Shaq and TMac
I'm a laker Kobe fan but I'm a straight up person this game was rigged ..the refs admits it in one of the RUclips videos
You can't control miss or made shots kings still had a chance to win the series they had home court advantage
thanks
man, you'll never convince me this game wasn't fixed
I wonder if the Refs also got championship rings
the coaches dont make shots in the basket but they get a championship you idiot mayan empire
