I worked with a guy from New Orleans on a ship before Hurricane Katrina, but not at the time of this story.
Very sad to say he lost his mom in the Hurricane. During lunch, a crew member said, "whoever died in the Hurricane deserved it. They knew it was coming and should have evacuated." (He wasn't aware of the mans loss)
Needless to say, it was the last time he made a shitty statement like that. Your boy went to town on him. When asked, not one person there had seen anything.

My aunt witnessed everything from a grocery store near the WTC. She told me she felt a hard explosion and a deep punch in her heart. She was with my cousin who is 23 years old today. She watched in horror for the next hour or so as the second plane hit the south tower. She ran for her life to the fairest place but also told me she had to wait as 1000+ people ran in her way. 50 mins later she said, the north tower collapsed and she sat there in a bench crying as she carries my cousin who was 8 months old at the time or so. And when the south tower collapsed she fainted for crying too much. My uncle who was with my aunt. He took him to a hospital which was crowded by hundreds of people. It was truly terrifying for her. She is now 46 years old and she surprisingly looks like she’s on her 30s. R.I.P to the 3000+ people who died on 9/11.

On 9/11 my dad was commuting to work from NJ to one of the toweres. I was in 5th grade at the time. I remember sitting there in shock, fully believing that my dad was there while it was happening. Nobody made fun of anyone, there was no bullying. I remember one of my teachers having a meltdown because her husband worked in one of the towers. My brain at the time couldn't process or understand what was going on. When my mom came and got me she let me know my dad was alive and was stuck in traffic in the Lincoln tunnel.

I was 3 months out of A school on board my ship when we got the alarms. I was 19 yo. I thought it was just another drill. I was young and naive. That day changed my whole life. While we mustered on the hanger bay. And we all watched as the second plane hit. My friend who we became close while going through bootcamp and school. She fainted. While everyone watched and didn’t move I fell out of formation on instinct. When she came through her words were my mom is in that building. Luckily my chef came and assisted her up and out. That day her mom died and we all bared witness to this. Within hours we were deployed. These memories haunt me. Those words stung. Cause she lost her mom and I lost my shipmate. She was honorable discharged to deal with the death of her mom and never seen her again.

This is really similar to what happened with my mom. My mom worked in a law firm that was in the first building but we lived in New Jersey and on 911 I guess she was in the subway and they stopped the trains but we couldn't get ahold of her for 4 hours bc she was in a subway tunnel w no reception and even thinking of it now my heart is just racing. I was actually in my first year of college in Miami and ended up moving home in November and not going back to school until the next fall and switching schools so i could stay living at home. That day was so traumatic and I wasn't even in the state. I also remember that I was in the gym when I saw it was her building and I ran back to my dorm and started bangining on my RA's door like she was somehow going to know something. Anyway, I just member I was totally panicked.

My grandmas sister “Annie” worked on the lowest level on the second building. As soon as the first building collapsed, everybody tries to run away. But then the second building collapsed and she was trying to run near the water. Some of her friends died but she was still alive with no injuries. She explained it was very traumatic and that’s why she moved here in Canada
