I had exactly the same issue with my Civivi Bo. I used a cone shaped ceramic Dremel grinding bit, gently and manually in a pin vise, to remove the burr. SO much better now!
Nice job on the video Nick. I own way to many knives for an old fart,,, but thankfully I have an understaning wife with more shoes than Amazon so it works out ok... Mine came with good action over all with a fair detent on the flicker side but being as picky as I am, I of course took it down and deburred all edges inside and polished the male side of the dentent on the liner. Still captures the blade nicely for in the pocket. Very tricky stuff but just a touch will do. HUGE improvement on a already great flipper. Also pulled the pocket clip and removed 2.5 mm, polished and refinished that to get rid of that high flat side. I LOVE this knife even more! In the Imortal words of Hickok45, Life is good
Amazing how little improvement details can make all the difference. I've done this to a couple knives, including bending lock bars by .5 mm at a time and the satisfaction justifies the time spent. Still haven't found a good tool for deburring the detent ball hole.
@@kerryrwac I have small diamond files that fit in the hole but they last for one use and the angle at which they approach the edge isn't ideal. I'm thinking a high quality, small, 45 degree stone would be good but the quality is very important. If I come across a good set and have the money to burn then maybe. Those can be very expensive.
I went and got a tile drill bit/arbor, knocked the sharp point with a grinder, used a file and sandpaper to take the point back until it's just a little bit before the circumstance of the detent. Works great and diamond/carbide coated so you'll be able to just push and spin by hand. Remove any material and rub back and forth on stropping leather
Hahahaha ohhh here we go, love it just a little bit I know this might already have been said but for such things wet and dry paper can be a beautiful thing. Stay safe and healthy Nick 😘👍
I think that ceramic rod set from spyderco is going to be my new go-to recommendation for smoothing out jimping and other small f&f fixes. Just seems to be the ideal grit for most circumstances and small tweaks the slightly ambitious user would try.
I have a Brous folder and the detente sucks. Or is it stucks? I took it apart and cleaned it. There was no improvement. I didn't know about this. This was a fantastic video even if it doesn't result my Brous getting better. I may have to send it to detention. THANK YOU!!!
awesome little knife and really informative video I didn't know about the detent burr cool. thank's very helpful I have a dogma that's similar very strong detent.
Appreciate the knife breakdown...I have been watching the Civivi line of late and really like what they are providing. Also, the Diablo 2 call out 'Ormus' (Ormus Robes)
Random question... I've noticed that with Civivi they tend to use caged bearings where one side is closed (see the 2:19 mark for an example) and the other side is more open (see the 2:37 mark for an example). I really haven't paid much attention to it before, but the last Civivi I pulled apart had the closed side facing the handle and the open side in the bearing race. Does it make a difference which way they go? Guessing in previous knife cleanings I just grabbed them and put them in however they were laying on my shop mat.
The new (ish) CRKT Ceo flipper version has a hella strong detent, it is though the work of but a moment to rectify that, leaving you with a buttery smooth action, in my opinion.
I might try my set of drill bits by 64ths. I'm not sure that I'm willing to invest in a set of numbered or lettered drill bits and I have never seen them sold separately.
Don't care if you use an iPhone. Android for me but I just have been trying to get in contact with you about your vehicles extended warranty. Also, do you use an external mic?
A knife has some slightly contoured scales & it brings to the mind of the Nick - Christina Hendricks. I am going to struggle to look at an Ortis/Actress without thinking of Mad men. Maybe not a bad thing . . .
My Ortis was solid all around right out of the box. No detent issues. Also, nothing special either. Just the most basic of small CIVIVI budget EDC. There is another identical model with thumb studs, better.
I tried Android for exactly those reasons, but the instability, insecurity, and low software quality chased me back. I hope it's better these days, but back then, the iPhone was the only way to go back to 'boring'.
8:15 oh boy... Oh wow... So that was what he was trying... But I still honestly love his attention to detail... Most details...
Another reason to watch you. I never knew that burrs could be an issue. Good to know.

Great drawing, really cleared things up

You could grind off the tip of a diamond rat tail file until it fits in the detent hole. Harbour Freight sells a set of files for 6.99.

That was cool Nick ! Thanks for video

Had the Ortis. Action is amazing for the price. Great budget line 👍
Thank you for doing what you do.

I love my civivivi blortis.
No, no, no. It's the Cibibi Portis.
It's the Portis. Named after that famous country singer, Portis Wagoner.
Nick: I see this, I'll do it like this, you see

Hey Nick the diagram you drew is not visible as AVE would say "frame you fuck" I love you bye-bye
🤣🤣🤣👍👍
I couldn't see it either.

it seems to me like when the blade is coated or painted companies seem to give their blade a lil more TLC as far as finishing
Civivi needs to up their quality control 😏
Yes. This. Amen.
The machinists in me is losing his mind watching this
I really hope they're going budget with those scales.

Great stuff 👏 👍 😂
This knife isn't curvy enough to be called "The Christina Hendricks"...
Lolol
lol. I kept scrolling to try to see what the heck he was drawing....
Ortis seems to be a French noun, a stinging nettle
probably pronounced Or-tee
Pronounced "or-tee" indeed, but the French word spells "ortie" or orties (plural, with silent S). 😉
Level 5 wire burr !! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Orifice. I'm sure it's the Orifice.
Is that the hole truth?
given the nick's near-insistence on tools that are disassemble-able and user-maintainable, the iphone usage seems anomalous in sensibility.
