This channel is my #1 go to for Florida gardening advice! I’m subscribed to many, but watch you and maybe 2 others. I need ur advice: I’ve got a 3 yr old papaya that started in a 4 gallon bucket- well it rooted beyond, and deeply and is now 8 ft tall and wide right at my front door. We always have to move leaves to get to the door. So moving it- you said we might have a cold snap, but I’m afraid to wait another 6 months (btw - it’s fruiting) and if I move my beloved, will it take root before the cold hits it? (Ha! Cold, lol). Thank you for your hard work and dedication. I’d never do as well as I do without you!!
Hello from central FL, im going to start rounds of all of my crops every 2 weeks incase it does stay warm for longer this year, thanks for making these helpful videos!
So grateful for channels like these:) it seems like Central Florida is like spring Yankee vegetables, summer tropicals, fall Yankee vegetables, repeat.
Omg I get up early to work in the yard. NW FL no rain and extremely hot. Been at at it since 6am. 8am now and I can't handle the heat. I pre-ordered the planner. A girl can dream 😊
I have learned so much from your videos! One thing I'm struggling with is when to start seeds for my native plants. I asked one of the florida native plant groups on Facebook, but never got any response 😅. Could you do something about that? I'd love to k own when to start my ironweed, rattlesnake master, etc.
95 degrees and thunderstorms every day this week Sept 2 - 9. It has to cool off eventually. I wish somebody would write a book on seed starting for native plants - time of year, stratification needs, germination time, etc.
It was 78 degrees F at 6am this morning and only 65% humidity. Feeling the change. Hoping for more rain next week. I'm still harvesting cucumbers in partial shade. Refrigerator pickles rule! Cucumber limeade is delicious too!
@@teresaholland4790 I'm in west central Florida and it actually felt cooler. Anytime it's below 80 degrees in the early morning is a sign of changing season here.
Love your videos - so fun & informative! Question - are you aware of a list or calendar that outlines when native flowers bloom here in FL? I'm looking to add them (you've convinced me!), and want to try to have color all year. Any recommendations?
Yay! Yes 👍 I’m aware of only one planner that has that information. The Wild Floridian planner. Actually I can tell you that when I went to add this to the planner last year, I had to go through soooooo many different resources, plus use my own experience to make my own database. As far as my research there aren’t any lists to help with this outside of my planner. The one list I could find from UF has only a few flowers by season and most are NOT available in the nursery trade (even with native nurseries). The other would be my Gardening Guide which is a short list by season. Hope that helps! And I’m SOOOO excited for you!!!!
I will personally attest that Jacqueline's planner has the best Florida native planting information in one location; planting times, growth habits, flower colors, and additional life supported by the plants. This information is really hard to find for these varieties, and once you have plants selected, there may be Wild Floridian detailed video on it, or you can do additional in depth research by plant.
Thank you for all the great videos. What native plant were you showing with the lovely purple flowers at about time 7:40, couldn't hear. Some of these are so hard to find up in Hernando cty. Thanks!
Check out this video. I go through each variety and where I got the seeds from. That way you can find exactly what your looking for 😊 20+ Fall Veggie Varieties for Your Florida Garden ruclips.net/video/vRy_n5TldEM/видео.html
So happy I found this channel! South Melting Fl over here 🥵 Learning a lot and looking forward to getting my garden in better shape for butterflies, veggies, all of it!
Check out the Nectary in Lakeland or Wilcox in Largo or Green Isle in Orlando or Sweet Bay in Parrish. All are strong native nurseries and may carry it. Give them a call to see if they have it in stock.
Hello from SW Florida. I recently came across your channel, and I've learned so much. Do you have any recommendations on where to buy seeds for native plants? Any help would be appreciated.
My first reply got kicked out for providing a link I think. If you look up Florida native wildflowers as a website, they have a great selection of seeds and small starts. You have to check back with them frequently though as their stock fluctuates.
Would this be the time of year to transplant strawberry plants? Mine are looking really rough and seem to be crowded. Plus they are making runners. Help please. Thanks 😊
UF recommends strawberry planting between mid-Sept to end of October, depending on where you are in Florida. If you start rooting the runners now, and clean up the worst of the rough 'mother' plants, you should have lots of fresh plants to divide and plant out in the next month or two. I would wait until new growth appears on your mother plants after the clean-up, and on the rooted runners before attempting transplant (they are unlikely to start new growth during the September days of no rain).
@@WildFloridianThanks, there was a recent video from Gary at the Rusted Garden Homestead that covered taking care of strawberry plants this month. I separated mine so I will see if I killed them or if they grow. I'll be looking forward to more information, never too old to learn.
@@WildFloridian Coming in with strawberry tips from elsewhere; Floridians grow them as annuals because our summer is so rough. But since Shirley kept her plants going, she is in a great place to see if strawberry plants ARE more productive in years 2-3 before getting tired and needing replacing with new runners.
I don’t think I’d be putting anything else inside. We’re in the start of a very high hurricane season. I’d start the seeds, but I want to put them in the ground did that the last two years and each year got hammered by hurricane wiped out
"September is still a lot like summer." That's because it IS summer; it's not autumn until the last week of September. I ask my self why everyone thinks of September as fall when it isn't, and I think it's a marketing scheme that has been very successful.
I love that I found this channel. Love the humor and the knowledge for us Floridians.
Yay!!! I’m glad you’re here! 😄🥰😄
She’s great isn’t she. A true inspiration. I have a perfect location to plant fire bush.

Good morning. Just the thought of September is wonderful. I am hopeful and planning.
Yay! It just needs to cool down just a tiny bit and I’ll be a duck in water 😄
