WOW, I had no idea that turning off your lights at night would help the birds migrate…never, ever heard that before. Thank you so much for your highly informative gardening videos…they are extremely helpful. I’am from Oregon originally and so gardening in Florida is a completely different style of gardening.
I’m so happy to help you on your Florida Gardening adventure! My husband is from PNW… Portland area but across the Washington line! Turning the lights off can also help you attract less moths to your veggies.
Thanks for the share about papaya plants liking a lot of water. I didn't know that. I have 3 papaya trees, I picked 2 papayas yesterday, with 3 more almost ripe. I will remember to give them extra water. Thanks again.
@@jo-annjewett198 I'm sorry to hear that. I pretty much neglect my papaya trees. They are on the sides of the house and are growing in very poor sandy soil, the water goes right straight through. Does your soil have clay in it or something else that holds on to water? I'm not an expert you should ask Jacqueline, she seems to know a lot about them. Good luck if you decide to grow more papaya trees.
They are fussy buggers. If you live in Dade county, the water table sits really high so they easily get drowned. The are like Goldilocks. The best thing is to add mulch around them to help even put the water.
West Volusia county - Debary Nursery! :) Terrific quality and super knowlegable. Our warm fall method of protection.... rubbermaid storage bin, holes drilled for drainage, up on cinder block, tomato cage in the middle, tulle fabric (super cheap on ebay) draped over tomato cage and then bungee-corded around the rim of the bin. Water and sun can get thru, but no buggies :) Doesn't look super posh lol, but it works. Used it for broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, etc.... Once the plant gets big and established or it is cooler weather, then you can likely be safe taking it off.
Your so very welcome for the strawberry starts. My husband said he's been seeing the Squirrels and birds eating my beauty berries. Not sure how much I'll get planted this fall. We are redoing all my raised beds. ❤😊
Definitely went to the comments while watching and was going to reach out only to hear you say not to! 😂 hopefully everyone gets amazing yields this year!
I used those same strawberries that you talked about last season. They did wonderfully! Replanting themselves now in my butterfly gardenThank you! We do have frost here in 9A . North Florida.
I have been trying to do the Garden thing for three years in Florida now. I had three jalapeño plants that I actually grew peppers this year. I also had six squash plants that got totally eaten overnight by something. I give up😢
Great video! Thank you for the inspiration and motivation to get back out there and start reigning in my garden again! I got my tomatoes peppers onions beets and lettuces started last week thanks to your video. Crossing fingers they'll make it
Great question! You can get both in Florida. Home Depot and Lowe’s sell starts not bare root. Many local nurseries in Lakeland area sell starts too. Amazon tends to be bare root only.
Best bet would be to find someone who has it. I got mine from a farmers market in South Carolina and it's taken off in my backyard. Very rigorous growth and needs to be pruned a bit more often but this is coming out of the heavy rain from summer. I have mine in the ground with stone edging to keep them from spreading out to keep them organized but it is better to have them contained IMO. I let mine grow out to at least 5 ft before trying some and they weren't super sweet.
I'm a bit disappointed. This year (and last) I tried seeding some special jalapenos and "habanadas", as well three kinds of pumpkin seeds (including Seminole). Not a one sprouted. My dollar store cayenne and a random butternut squash came up just fine, I planted them all the same way.
I put watermelons and seminole squash in to grow over my RV pad in Pensacola. They have started (finally) coming on in abundance! Do I have enough time to have them reach maturity before the cold kills them? I have already harvested 3 watermelons last month. The squash were super small, now they are getting bigger!
@@KatieMarie At the Saturday Palafox market. There's a vendor who sells plant starts and has lots of varieties that grow here. This spring I bought some tomatillos from her too. She said she has summer and fall starts too
So I planted some carrot seeds and put cardboard over it to keep it from getting dry or blown away. I went to check on them and fire ants have colonized under the cardboard. Any tips on what to do? Are my carrot seeds done for?
I love your videos but man...I had to go to settings to slow it down. Talking way to fast for me. We are all busy but for YT videos...not good! Sorry, thumbs down. Not hating and I bought your calendar but losing interest. Only trying to send constructive feedback.
I got two swamp weeds from ace snd I got a tropical but I was like I don’t want to disturb the monarchs patterns so I just take the plant out and let it die. I feel bad though. Like it was just starting to flower. I feel like I did something wrong. No monarchs were even touching it but I didn’t want to take the chance. Maybe I could of kept indoors as a indoor plant? Florida flamingos 🦩🦩❤️🔥 id love to see that! 🤞 maybe one day!
Thank you for the inspiration! I have basically abandoned the garden this summer... It was crazy hot... But you energized me to get going again... ❤

It also helps sea turtles as well for those who live on the coast

I have lost two papayas from root rot. I think too much water!

We are getting "monsoon rains the past few days, one of those things where most of the state is clear, with one big storm over our county.

I’m m so glad that they worked for you too!!! 🙌🍓
Hope those tall pines behind you survived Helene
On the lights, yes, not to mention the night lights attract months who lay those eggs!
Soooooooo true!!! I don’t get the caterpillar activity from moths like others!
😊Happy Friday,Jacqueline! 🌱🍓🥦🌻🍁🦋
Happy Friday Rene!

You rock girl! Thanks again for all of the amazing informative videos. Cheers from central Florida.
Thank you! And cheers to you!
Hey there. Vero Beach here. Ok to transplant tomatoes and peppers now?
Great video! Thank you for the inspiration and motivation to get back out there and start reigning in my garden again! I got my tomatoes peppers onions beets and lettuces started last week thanks to your video. Crossing fingers they'll make it
Yay!!!! I’m so happy! My fingers are crossed 🤞
Are bare root plants the only way to go with strawberries here or can we find actual plant starts too?
Great question! You can get both in Florida. Home Depot and Lowe’s sell starts not bare root. Many local nurseries in Lakeland area sell starts too. Amazon tends to be bare root only.
Just ordered Albion on Amazon. I am in south Texas zone 9b. I grew Chandler that didn’t do so great. It was just too hot.
I hope these work better for you! Let me know as the season goes because y’all are so similar but have some differences
Thanks for sharing this.
You’re welcome! ☺️
Love me some veggies
🙌
Central FL.. where can I get sugar cane?
Are they like bamboo and need to be contstantly corralled and/or contained?

I just ordered bareroot Seascape strawberries on amazon and just plantedc then yesterday! If anyone has grown these LMK how they did!
Nice Amber 🙌
I am in zone 11b. It's still hot here. What do you suggest?
You can still get warm weather crops started like tomatoes and peppers and some hot weather crops like luffa and okra

I’m near Pensacola - where did you find your Seminole squash seeds? I have been wanting to try growing that ☺️

If you already have squash growing, then yes you have time. It only takes 90 days for those to mature.
Does anyone know if frog fruit is ok to grow under bananas?
Yes. But they will eventually thin out because frog fruit will get shaded out by banana
