Yeah, I don't recall watering the pumpkins almost every day. Our artesian well has been flowing non-stop to keep the pond at level. The latest forecast says we will start getting rain this weekend and I bet we go into bayou mode out here.

I got my very first okra EVER last week! Try this - cut in half lengthwise, then maybe in half across if it's big enough. Heat up a pan with a bit of oil on med-high. Lightly salt the okra, and start cut side down in the pan. Get a bit of color on it, toss to get some color on the other side. Legit, best okra I've ever had and not slimy.

I was in my second year of gardening this summer. Last year I started in late summer and had a wonderful garden....this year was a bummer....Seeds would not germinate....my marigolds either did not germinate or did, but had no flowers....cucumbers produced vines but no cucumbers....waited too late to put tomatoes in and only got a few cherries......just not a good year....and yes I wanted to give up. Finding it hard to get my mojo going for the fall garden. But I must!
St Augustine here! 🙋🏻♀️ we are not new to Florida gardening but we have been on the fence about planting anything other than cherry tomatoes AT ALL, and you have just pushed me to my decision. Our sungolds, Everglades and Matts Wild Cherry tomatoes did excellent(as always) and everything else was “not happy”. So thank you for making that decision for me!
I actually started my sweet corn inside. I KNOW I know, but i wanted to at least get some green stems. I've just done my first cardboard no till bed with new composted soil so wish me luck. I have about 36 plants I'm putting in today. Did 12 this morning, waiting to work out again in the evening, I'm thinking about planting another rotation of corn right behind this one depending on how they do. Very excited for Fall and Winter. Have a lot of starts ready to go. =) So much more I want to do but i've run out of garden space, May have to create another plot on the property. Have to see how things go with this plot before I venture to do another one... I LOVE LOVE LOVE how easy it was not having to till or tear it all up!
I'm hoping to grow enough for some cowboy candy. Everyone seems to love it, I gotta try.
i have a super dwarf cavendish and ice cream banana except that ice cream one gets to be about 15 feet before fruiting so i don't expect that one to fruit plus i experience cold winters so its just gonna be a fun one i do

I have just sowed some cherry tomato seeds and some ping tung eggplant with some basil seeds, I have a ton of sweet potatoes growing in my garden, best thing to grow here in central Florida during the hot summer here, they will be harvested end of September to October also I have my banana tree that is producing pups so they will go around my garden soon, love your videos!!

We only got 6.25” rain in Cape Coral in July. August is dry here too.

Good morning from Tampa! My PR black beans were planted in May and have exploded over my trellis. I get a handful of dried pods almost daily. My okra started the same time and are doing great with lots of pods. I did an experimental high intensity okra patch in barely amended soil and it’s doing ok. Some small pods daily.
I can’t wait for fall and cooler weather!

@@Floridasweetdeals I haven’t fertilized since planting, and they are producing still. Some plants I put in an amended bed and they look like small trees. For me they are low effort, good output.

Peppers - I don't know if you like sweet peppers or not. It sounds like you grow more hot peppers. But for sweet peppers I have had great success with the Lunchbox variety. I have trouble with the larger sweet bell peppers, but the Lunchbox red, yellow, and orange all do great here in 9a Florida panhandle. I also like the Corno di Toro Italian frying peppers and the smaller Cornitos.
with my everglades i just planted them the plan is to move in the garage in winter and keeping my cherry tomatoes until it freezes
My first year, I grew some super good beefsteaks....I planted in October, being the novice I am.....but they were in a container and I had to take them in and out of the storage shed all during the winter based on the cold.....but they did produce some great tomatoes. I need to get an earlier start if I hope to get fruit before the winter, since I'm planting in the ground this time
Excited for fall too. How much tropical spinach can one eat? ;). We lost our lime tree last year. I essentially "replaced" it with Lime basil. It gets very citrusy if I don't over water. Basil is so versatile with all the varieties......Spicy Thai, Cinamon, Lemon. I even have a "mint basil" plant...or was it a "basil mint". I guess basil and mints are cousins.
I am so ready for heat relief. No zucchini for me this year. Cowpeas are doing pretty good as well as okra. My tomatillo plant is huge and has 3(pathetic). The papaya had 2 big flowers and there seemed to be a baby papaya but it yellowed and died and there is another one still there. Some of my tomatoes are hanging there. Got 2 Greenstalks and the plants are doing amazing in there. I have Roma,Brandywine and cherries. Also shishito, ancho, green hatch, cubanelle and bell peppers. Also have cucumbers and a miniature melon. To be continued....
Agree Sandra... we need to chill just a little on these temperatures 🥵 I completely bailed on zucchini. 😂 So if you get some, let me know! On papaya... I noticed that Mr. Cliff's papaya seemed to slow down over the summer. The plant might have been prioritizing growth and root establishment with the lack of rain. I hope it turns around for you this month. I'm glad you like the greenstalks... I'm thinking about trying one or two. Way to go on the tomatoes 🍅 and peppers 🌶 . The saga continues!!! 😄
Sandra D. Don't feel bad, I had a beautiful looking tomatillo plant that gave me NOTHING! And didn't take it out just bc it looked great🤣🤣🤣. Glad you shared your story. Better luck for this fall to all gardeners 😉👍
Awww Maria. Thanks for your kind words. My plant has 3 tomatillos and a million flowers which who knows if they will become tomatillos. I'm not a quitter so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. 🥰

Try Hungarian Wax Peppers. They are spicy raw but can be used as sweet peppers cooked. I grew them through the summer and I just got 2lbs of the plant this week and it’s still looking great. Also try Hungarian Pepper stew. Add black beans , ground turkey

Orange Habanero are very easy to grow in FL and taste great. Super spicy as-well :) -From Lake Worth, FL
From Mount Dora area. Cherokee purple does ok if planted with oregano, pot marigolds, basil and mint. Less bugs and nematode issues.
Additionally my loofa has climbed up on my carport roof. And my PR black beans have grown up a trellis into an oak tree. Sweet potatoes are good for ground cover keeping the soil cool, they grow year around here and keeps nitrogen in the soil.
Roselle (Jamaican Sorrel) needs a ton of space. I plant these in my garden
I have had 2 great years with Chadwick tomatoes. The full sized fruits were so heavy that a branch broke off in a afternoon storm. I put it in water, rooted it out, replanted it and it grew well into the winter. I had planted clippings in my bay window with a grow light bulb shining on it and we had fresh tomatoes for Christmas dinner. Loved them so much I tried the Chadwick Cherry tomatoes this year as well. They grew well and are about as big as a jumbo egg? Can't think of anything the same size, golf balls are too small and baseballs too big. Anyway, I planted them on the west side of a shed for some wind protection and only a half day of full sun (noonish to sunset) and they were happy with it! I'm south of you on the west coast, zone 9/10. We do get frost but it's mostly due to the river and canals giving off fog which freezes.
So I love starting my large ounce tomatoes now and so by the time there are blooms and fruit, the weather is cool (roughly Mid Oct). I found my mid-April or 2nd sowing of spring tomatoes had the worst pest pressure. I found heat tolerant varieties but had to fight off the white flies, aphids and leaf-footed bugs.
Started many of my fall seedlings already - more tomatoes, onions from seed... more luffa. Need to do cukes and melons. My peppers came back from me cutting them back last year and have been prolific. I'll be cutting them back again. I have sugar rush peach, shoshito, aji cuchara, bells, jimmy nardello. Lots of peppers -dried, frozen, fermented sauces. My okra finally started arriving a few days ago. The lack of rain is killing me.
I'm going to be living in Englewood Florida again soon and I am so excited to grow all these fun Florida foods!
You need to do David The Good's Melon-Pit method for Seminole's. Save bones/Meat/fat & other nasty stuff, bury 2-3 feet down.
Our Puerto Rican black beans did fabulous. But we weren't prepared for the size or amount. We had to terminate them. Next year we will be ready!

Jacqui I really enjoy your videos. I used to collect succulents (still have just not buying new ones). They’re easy only need water once a week or every other week. I tried houseplant but killed them couldn’t remember to water. I have always wanted to grow my own herbs and some greens n veggies but was overwhelmed with how to plan it out n do “right” I,e. Prepare ground n build raise beds was just overwhelming to me. I was thrilled when I came across videos using GreenStalk garden tower to grow so many varieties of foods. I love it. Just started growing in June with amazing nutrient greens like Katuk, longevity spinach, edible hibiscus, (3 varieties) herbs n going to try Everglades tomatoes. I know they get wild but I’m not ready to do in ground growing yet. I purchased an Aji Dulce pepper in 3 gallon fabric pot n it has done well in our Florida zone 10b (Broward county) 1 hr North of Miami Have you grown Aji Dulce pepper? Have you considered Adding a GreenStalk? Also would love to see some recipes using your harvest

Hi. Im in windermere..been gardening for 8 years and I'm finding the weather is just too hot to garden this last two years . In fact I'm ready to give up until your video pop up..im just surprised that your garden doesn't seem to get that much pest and disease pressure. I would like to ask if you could do a video on how you water the garden. Watering is my biggest issue and i dont seem to find any local youtuber addressing how they water their garden. Im starting to think that their plants dont need watering 😄...pretty pretty please ..Nor
I'm in Polk County and I really only water in seeds that I plant or seedlings, and sometimes only one time. I have a few things in containers that need daily watering if we don't get rain but everything else in the ground does not need water in the summer. I mulch heavily and plant into it, the soil underneath is always moist.
Planting into the earth and heavily mulching (I use wood chips) has worked really well for me.
Habenero and cayenne peppers do well in our area- St. Augustine.
I so enjoy you and your videos. I am in st. Pete also and I am planting tomatoes determinate types now. I have had good success last year and them started cherries mid September. For me I getter better harvest start September through February. Thanks for sharing so much with so many.
Last year I was successful growing Paul Robeson tomatoes in the fall through Christmas. I think I transplanted my starts in October?? I got tons of big tomatoes off 2 plants. That was the only time I’ve succeeded with big tomatoes though

One of my dogs, like to dig up those grubs in the grass and eat them 😜 doesn't help a bit because she digs up the corn looking for the grubs. 🤦♀️

Building the arch tunnels is dead easy. Go to your local Tractor Supply and ask for Cattle grates. They are 16 foot long and about 4-5 feet tall. Place 4-6 T-stakes in the ground( 2 or 3 on one side and the others about 4 feet away on the other side) Put the panel within the stakes. Viola', instant tunnel. Tie em' down with galvanized wire. Each panel is about $45 last time I purchased them. They also sell hog panels (16 feet long but only3-4 feet high. They are really strong, galvanized and will last 100 yers.
It’s frustrating going to local nurseries in pinellas county. You would think they would sell regional seeds. Local RUclips’s need to sell at these places.
I went to Dolan. They had the oversized milkweed there. They had great prices on vegetable and herb seedlings. $2.

@@WildFloridian they're a little spicy but has a lot of flavor. When they're red they're called ancho chili's. Tastes really yummy in Mexican corn or any Mexican dish.

Trying again this year. I've had everglades seeds in soil for over a month and nothing yet. Say they're non gmo and heirloom that it can take a while before germination. Wow praying they start soon.I would love to find a big tom. that grows here.
Try some Anaheim peppers (those are what the Hatch green chilis are)
I think you might be a bit late on roselle. Mine sprouts in June and is 2-3 feet high by now. It will be interesting to see if you can plant them now!

Thank you for recommending Everglades Farm. This week I received my Blue Java and Manzano banana plants, my Black Gold jackfruit, Carrie mango and my Everbearing mulberry trees. They were all in great shape when they arrived. In another week it’s time they will be ready to be transplanted. You have inspired this old farm girl of the possibility to grow your on food here in Florida. Challenging but Doable !
What watched part of your video this morning will watch the rest of it later as of course I’m working on an outside project. I will be sure to grab my planner (Hint: Everyone should get one) and be prepared to take lots of notes. So once again thank you for taking the time to put these videos out for people like me !
I really love that you embrace the bugs and the butterflies alongside the food garden! But I am seriously struggling with some of my crops in South Florida. I always plant more than I need and then try to scout for pests, but right now the lady bugs are out there gobbling up aphids so I’m just going to stand back and watch that fight… am wondering whether other gardeners lose as many seedlings as I do!

Hi! I love love love your channel!! You have really inspired me to start my first vegetable garden! We live in a rural area, our land is “natural “and we have tons of bugs! Yesterday while setting up our garden site I came across bug’s I’ve never seen before and two scorpions 🦂 😱. Don’t get me started on the spiders!!!! How do you handle pests??
I have such a hard time switching around plants, like my okra is very tall and in its pot but its pushing it so many new ones and even when it's all sad I would just feel terrible killing it :( A big reason is because plants are alive I just feel bad killing it when it's not dying really badly
Can you dig the vegetable vegetation into the soil to enrich it? I have all sand and grass on top. I live in the upper panhandle.
You can. You'll need a lot of veggie scraps to convert the sand. Consider using mulch (like from chip drop) to get more life and nutrition in the soil faster.
Where did you find Everglades tomato seeds?
Hi, I am gardening in central Florida and looking for Seminole pumpkin seeds, Puerto Rican black beans, do you have a suggestion where I can purchase these seeds and other Florida native seeds? Thank you so much and I love all your videos.
I got my Seminole pumpkin seeds from Daisy the Goods Etsy shop. That’s David the Goods daughter. I know Summer at Southern Dirt Gardener sells them. Urban Harvest might sell them but I haven’t looked recently. Urban Harrvest sells Puerto Rican Black Beans. I think she sells some native plants too. But the best for native seeds is the Florida Wildflower Coorperative. They are associated with the Florida Wildflower Foundation. Hope that helps!
Do the Seminole Pumpkins negatively affect other nearby plants? For example, are they ok around shallow rooted shrubs like blueberries or are they such heavy feeders that they will deprive the blueberry bushes of nutrients? Will the tendrils wrap themselves around the trunks of fairly young/small fig trees and strangle them? I have limited garden space and would like to plant melons, pumpkins or winter squash as an annual groundcover type plant in between fruiting shrubs and smaller fruiting trees. I am in zone 9a, Florida panhandle.
My Seminole pumpkin plant (1) took over the whole backyard. It covered the fence and then grew into the front yard. It also grew up the side of the house.

This is my first year with raised beds and I'm new to Florida and I'm still a little confused about when it is safe for my little plants to go out into all this heat!!

Central FL and new subscriber here, where have you been all my life?! My husband insists tomatoes need to be in full sun. I'm like, not FLORIDA sun, it is tooo much. Even in Sept Oct Nov. I am of the opinion part shade is fine, like maybe just morning till 1pm sun. Yours seem shaded, so do you agree? I need backup, before he plants all the fall ones in full sun lol. Thank you!
Oh and for our report thru summer, we did yard long beans and cow peas in bins, until they were well established, we covered them in fabric tulle. Tomato cage in the middle, tulle over the stop, bungee cords around the bins. Once they were well grown, we removed the tulle. Worked great, those yard long beans are crazy! Kept bugs at bay. Saved the cow peas dried, and planted a few more on Friday, by Monday night the sprouts were up and 2inches tall. Viable! Sweet potatoes in bins also, and up a trellis behind them. One potato was already poking out (covered it), so they might do ok too! We're excited. Come on fall! and then hurry up winter! :)

Lucky! Just kidding! That can be frustrating. I don’t do anything to stop giant Swallowtails eating my citrus. If the orange tree is healthy, it should be fine. If it is a small orange tree in a pot consider moving it into a screened enclosure. Or if it is still small, place a bug net.
@@WildFloridian I use to stress about my fruit trees but like you said if they are healthy they will make it.Im doing all I can on my end as a new gardener. I'm totally focused on getting excellent soil though.
What do you think about using micro clover as a living mulch in vegetable garden?
I think that is a great idea! 💡 You should totally try it. I have some native ground covers mixed in… like sunshine mimosa and wood sorrel… and O definitely think that had a positive impact on my crop.
You said one of those raised bed brands was BAD and the other was good. I won’t make you name the bad one, 😂 but what was the brand you liked?
LOL! The ones that look like there holding up to the rain, salt and minerals is Vegega. The ones that are No are Best Choice Products on Amazon. Here is the preview, the are already rusting dramatically and I’ve only had them for 6 months 😡. I’m talking layer separation and high oxidation. The degradation really started once summer hit. The VegeGa brand isn’t showing any signs of rust. So I’m hoping with their double coating they can survive Florida. Some other Florida gardeners say they have done well for them after a year. So here is hoping 🤞

I’ve been scouring RUclips looking for help with the Japanese sweet potatoes… the ones with the purple skin & white flesh.
