Just bought your book and the strop. You are so right I never use my pocket sharpener and always strop my knives in the field. Looking forward to reading your book. So glad you are still posting videos your content is always so useful.

Looks like you use quite a bit more pressure than what everyone else recommends….?

Not sure what everyone recommends, but I put a lot of power down. You are trying to remove steel with leather. A light pass over is not going to do it.

@@BCNW1 most videos I’ve seen from barkriver and other makers and RUclipsrs say almost no pressure. The instructions with my BR say almost no pressure. I’ll have to try both I guess.

@@fmt5327 Yes, try both and see what works for you. I have no idea what the point is of almost no pressure when stropping. Almost no pressure equals almost no change unless you want to strop for an hour. I also put a lot of power down when I sharpen with bench stones. I can tell you that many of my students struggle with keeping their tools sharp, and it’s always the result of timid, light strokes and/or too fine a grit. Modern steels are tough and they take some energy to remove by hand. The most important thing is that you get the result you want of course so keep me posted on how it goes. Hope this info helps.
