Unbelievably good band! They're picking from only 2 albums and an EP, this setlist is 23 songs in alphabetical order and flows like they planned it that way. Full setlist: Bone Machine Cactus Caribou Crackity Jones Dead Debaser Gigantic Gouge Away Hey The Holiday Song I Bleed Isla de Encanta Levitate Me Mr Grieves Monkey Gone to Heaven Nimrod's Son River Euphrates Tame There Goes My Gun Vamos Wave of Mutilation Where Is My Mind?
I had a number of audience recordings of concerts and seem to remember at least one other that started with the encore (Into the White) and the set was in reverse-alphabetical order! I was at the last gig they played in Uk. It was at the Mean Fiddler in London and I was convinced at the time that the set was in alphabetical order of the first chord or song key. Don't quite me.on that. I interviewed Black Francis for my Pixies fanzine prior to the gig too.
The little improvised melodic section at 31:56 Joey plays in the middle of his Vamos noise vamp here is the intro to Billy Squire’s Lonely is the Night. It sounded familiar and I guess only now did I figure it out.
i used to think trompe le monde was their best album, then i thought surfer rosa, but now im on a doolittle kick and it’s my favorite. this is the same year so thank goodness for this
@@alexsetterington3142 bossonova is great too. velouria and havalina. havalina might be my favorite pixies. yeah i got into them out of order. i didn’t get into pixies until like 2007.
Pixies literally saved my festival - after a failed attempt to meet half our party that came up later to give them their tickets and only messaging barrels (remember those!?) or radio Avalon to get messages out there, was trudging upset and dejected past the pyramid stage...when Bone Machine kicked off...I spun around on my heels and doubled back to watch what was one of the best surprise performances of the weekend and got my festival mojo back! I've been a mad Pixies fan ever since. This is a priceless recording IMO. Super hot weekend, people queuing for the shade under the trees...Thanks for sharing 😊
Was boiling hot. No shade, long queues for water. Missed the Pixies unfortunately, looking for a friend who missed us the entire festival - we had taken her tent in our car, she took the train doh! Wouldn't be a problem now.
Much the same experience - I thought the running order would be Pixies then Throwing Muses (both of whom I wanted to see), I was stuck in the traffic queue in my austin mini and could hear the Muses playing from down the hill. Was tempted to abandon the car and leg it down. In the end I got there after the Muses set finished and walked dejectedly around to the crew area to maybe get a glimpse of either band, when I heard the opening of Bone Machine. Never did manage to catch up with my friends and slept in my car.
Saw the Pixies many times when they were new in Boston. I'd say along with Mission Of Burma and The Cars they were most important and also, most important bands we exported.
Crazy how good they sounded live...wasnt there a video before LoudQuietLoud that had a compilation of some of their live shows and tour diary from the first era? I found one on here but it was only 30 min long...the one I remember had at least an hour or more...guess ill just have to dig through and watch the tubers tapes! thanks for this btw!!!
Only got there a year later, was amazing though. Heli landing near the front of the Pyramid during the Cure, seems like a flashback. Got Pixies at Reading tho so all's a ball
The Pixies live at Zirkus Krone Bau 1991. Smoked a lot of dope- we came into this Tent- and a big elelephant comes by and shit huge in front of the merchandise. I did not got my tour shirt . Fuck you bavarian elefant. Haha. But it was a great gig. Wow.
@@virtualglitterwell I saw the end of Throwing Muses and the whole of Wonder Stuff but have no recollection of seeing the Pixies. I couldn't have wandered off, surely? I know our group of friends was very agitated about a buddy who had travelled separately and not shown up.
wow this recording is clean as fuck
this sound guy is legend at least
It's a BBC radio recording (introduced by Janie Long) matched up with a video made by a guy in the crowd
I was there. Drinking cider. Boiling hot day, no shade to hide. Pixies were brilliant.
Exactly the same experience. Loved their gig though.
Joey Santiago spoke with me in Dingwalls . We shared a beer. Dinosaur Jr were playing and he'd come lol
That's beautiful
Your bone's got a little machine
Same mate micro dots and great hash all weekend no police the best time had by all
Back when Glastonbury meant something. Pixies don’t look like they give a shit either way, which is what makes them so endearing, what a band.
So focused, just the music, without any unnessecary shit. Great performance!
Kim had just turned 28, Joey had just turned 24, Black Francis was also 24 and David was 27.
They were just babies. Very precious babies!
I can’t help but giggling at the fact your calling a 28 year old a baby
Wait a minute, Joey Santiago and Black Francis was only 24 at the time ???
damn well spotted! I think they love doing that kinda thing with sets.
Charles Thompson was never 24 lol

@@jsoncducusin5748 yes it was. holiday song wasn't played.
Isla de Encanta is not played, at least not after I Bleed.
Guaranteed Charles planned it that way. A coincidence Luke that doesn’t just “happen”.

No.13 Baby
They played their Setlist by alphabetical order. Savage
lmao what the fuck they actually did hahaha
Autistic?
That's hilarious.
Never did they think 35 years later it would be discussed on a comment thread.
It’s the pixies. They play both versions of Wave of Mutilation in the same gig

Pixies in ‘89 was a good thing. Rock me joe.
Chris-👏🏻🍕
Jamie! Great to hear from you my friend. 💚
I was there! Seems as fresh now as it seemed then
22:50-24:22 PURE Pixies GOLD. Could play this on an eternal loop forever - the sheer, utter, casual brilliance of it all.
The little improvised melodic section at 31:56 Joey plays in the middle of his Vamos noise vamp here is the intro to Billy Squire’s Lonely is the Night. It sounded familiar and I guess only now did I figure it out.
LONELY IS THE NIGHT! 🤟🏼
I noticed that too
God bless the person who recorded this video back when taking a camcorder to a festival was a major pain in the ass.
Ain't that the truth!
This is gold! "Vamos" always hits you hard - right in the face. Long live Pixies!
i used to think trompe le monde was their best album, then i thought surfer rosa, but now im on a doolittle kick and it’s my favorite. this is the same year so thank goodness for this
I thought most people got surfer Rosa first then Doolittle then Trompe then Bossanova
@@alexsetterington3142 bossonova is great too. velouria and havalina. havalina might be my favorite pixies. yeah i got into them out of order. i didn’t get into pixies until like 2007.
They're all the same level of brilliant. :)

Great Band! Bowie admired them even and said they were Americas best band! High praise!
The last two tunes the pixies play here are sublime, great songs and belter sound with headphones on..
Dude thank you so much for freakin sharing this. Perfect Friday night right now.
Amazing show, wish I was there...
amazing audio, great band, I love it

Kim and the band at the end of No 13 Baby is sublime

Kim has a great bass tone one of my influence to play the bass guitar 🕯️
Apparently she only used worn/old bass strings
I was at this. Burnt to a crisp within 30 minutes...was worth it
Charles has blown my face off a million times

I was there. Watching someone else on another stage. Damn!

Anyone know who played before and after them?
Throwing Muses before, The Wonder Stuff after.

No! Their correct band name is Pixies. WTF, FTW!
Why doesn't Black Francis get more cred as a vocalist? He's g-dam amazing!
He didn't die
Must be so deep to have 100,000 people sing your ballad with you. Wow
😅
wait! is that fucking Mick Ronson running stage? haha
