you can always count on Gross to play it right, and instruct it right, lotta ways to play this one but this way just seems to be the best way, flows much better, picking is easier, hale when I first learned to play this back in the late 70's early 80's I played it back on the 2nd fret, yup, open string notes, funny I know but I was a kid and had never seen anyone play it before.. my neighbor taught me the bass lines to this song and I still remember it all to this day note for note.. crazy... I know he played it up on the 5-7 and played it real good too, at that point I understood I din't have clue.. I actually gave it up for 4 decades, welp more so cuz someone jacked my strat, back then it was very difficult to get lessons if you weren't in a major city or some sort of metropolis or close to, college something... none of my friends that played wanted to show me much if anything, Paul Soderberg the player who showed me the bass lines taught me like 12 songs on the 6 string, I remember those songs still today but no one else was willing to show me anything they all wanted to borrow my guitar but show me a riff or a lick? nope, not even my own cousin... man what a gipp.. lol
everyone should be very grateful we have these tools and players like Mike willing to take their time and energy to step up and teach us these things, much of it for free at that, so big respect towards Mike, its invaluable information one can use till the end, build on it whatever, it's all invaluable for the aspiring guitar player... had this been around back in the day early 70's? I know I would have had a career in the music business no two ways about it..the fact my first two guitars were stolen wouldn't have slowed me down a bit, I would have ran right back down to the music store ASAP, I learned fast and retained it all.. at age 12 it would have been full speed ahead every waking hour not at work... youtube would have created a monster, I know this..
in any event thanks Mike, appreciate all you do for the community yessir... one day maybe I'll step up and pay you to fill in some the blanks so it all makes more sense? hopefully I find that time and motivation.. peace

Great lesson and vid!! Tone is spot on as well. This tune is great to play once you start getting it down, in terms of technique it looks like it’s largely (if not all) downpicking for the intro and main riff?

Also if you have time one day could you possibly do Family System by Chevelle? I bought the tab book for their album but the tabs for this song just don't sound right to me.. thanks again

Thanks Mike for the great lesson, now I will just have to take a bit of time to figure out the intro the he plays live. Also, Schenker does have a wah pedal that he leaves engaged in about the middle position as he is playing this. Here's what I consider to be one of the best versions (and I have seen just about all of them): perfect tempo, Neil Murray and Simon Phillips locked in with each other, and Gary Barden singing. ruclips.net/video/M8KWQm77_PE/видео.html
