      What is this review? It's a tablet for sudents, artists, it's a practical laptop for work, you can make a pc-like setup with it, it has a powerful PC-OS and gets a light PC-like preformance when you plug it to charger, It can easily replace both airmac and ipad, and there are adroid apps coming to win11, you can even buy it with LTE so you don't have to use your phone as router.
      It's probably the most flexible and functional device on the whole market, but hey you've proven it's not a gaming pc.

      This is the first surface pro review I've come across on youtube which is quite accurate to my personal experience. I am a bit disappointed with my purchase to be honest.
      It is not as good as a cheaper, less spec stand-alone laptop, and, I cannot stress this enough, miles worse than any high-end tablet when you use it as a tablet. Also, more expensive than either option.
      I'd recommend to get a good laptop and medium to low-budget tablet like an older Ipad Air or an older Galaxy tabs combo set up instead.
      For me, it is frustrating on both fronts as a stand-alone laptop or occasional tablet usage.

    I have observed that the only thing RUclipsrs do to test a device is video editing. This is for professionals. Not professional RUclipsrs.This device is not for that. Even my dell precision i7 with 64 gb ram would go into turbo cooling mode when I compiled video lessons for online teaching. I used the pro 7 until it got stolen. Had the Kensington tabletop dock for the pro7. What a setup I had. My iPad Pro started to collect dust. Now it’s back in use. Looking to get the 8. It’s seamless integration with the windows os environment sets it apart from the iPad. But I must admit. It’s too expensive for the casual user. Meant for academics.

    I've been gaming on the surface pro 8 and definitely recommend using 1440*960 as your resolution as it scales perfectly and doesn't tax the Intel xe igpu as badly.. alternatively you can use an egpu like the Razer core x with a full desktop GPU to get way better results but the cpu will still bottleneck some and I recommend an external desk fan to keep it from throttling.. I've tested a bunch of games already on both the i5 and i7 so if you have any questions let me know

    Great video men. I think the word pro goes beyond video creators and folks into photography. It also cover professional in other career fields who are the larger society and the focus of Microsoft for slim compact laptops like these. These are professional in fields like law, medicine, accounting, project management and many more. Those are the real targets people who want a light good device.

    • @SoulOfTech
      @SoulOfTech  2 года назад +5

      That is a good way of looking at it for sure! To be honest often (perhaps wrongfully) we categorize pro activities as ones that require heavy computational power and often judge pro devices in that aspect. With that said I agree many professions and workflows fall under "pro" use aside from just media content.

    Maybe it is just me, and me using surface pros for years as primary devices, i do think this device is specifically made for people always on the go (lightweight design still having 30-watt CPU). I agree with the not good battery life, however it is more than capable of most pro tasks (keep in mind that video or photo editing is just a small subset of pro workflows, but true it can't sustain long workloads)

    A review of the video - Awesome! thank you for making this. As a Pastor who is always on the go, I have been using the surface 3 as my daily driver. It does everything I need it to do including connecting to displays such as projectors, and external monitors. I often project Bible Study info onto screens, apologetics classes on screens and so forth. I also use it in the pulpit during Sunday morning services with my notes on it, I did manage to install Windows 11 Pro on it and so far, no issues. I agree that the battery life could be better - even before installing windows 11 pro. I do have a charger pack I carry with me, and it does what I need it to do. I use the JLab Bluetooth keyboard and a Logi Bluetooth mouse, ear buds, a 128 G mini-SSD card and I also have a 2 TB SSD mini drive that I carry with me as well. Overall, I like the surface, but it does need the battery situation addressed. Once again, thank you for your review!

    Pretty good video - My thoughts on the Pro 8 and who it's for:
    If people have paid this amount of money for a Windows PC and they aren't using it to run a business that makes them way more money I think they've probably overspent personally.....These aren't expensive in terms of a business device if it helps you to collaborate better and ultimately make more money by making your business more successful.
    If you aren't going to make extensive use of both the laptop mode (with type cover) and the pen I don't think it's the right device. To me the price of the keyboard and pen are OK if you're using this every day - The fact you can move the keyboard over to your next Pro, or replace the keyboard if it breaks do help with the cost going forwards.
    The Pro range (compared to laptops) has some obvious trade-offs but the whole thing about overheating and poor performance seems to have evaded me over the years. I've use Pro 3, Pro 5 (2017) and Pro 8 extensively and they have always handled dev work, office work required to run a business just fine - I don't run virtual machines locally, I don't do anything with video editing (something YT reviews are obviously going to focus on when it comes to performance)
    Battery life isn't great I agree, but it's a tablet form factor along the lines of an iPad Pro - iPad Pro is amazing at sleeping and not using any power, the 10 hours you can get from iPad Pro is for video over WiFi, I can easily hammer my iPad Pro and get it's battery life down to ~4 to 6 hours of actual use - All depends what you're using these for, honestly.
    Like anything has it's pros and cons, I don't think the price is that ridiculous compared to other products in this class. In terms of Windows devices it's packing everything you could want - Here's hoping that the next ARM iterations to replace the Pro X will have much better battery life (compared to Pro 8) and better performance (than Pro X SQ1/SQ2)

    • @SoulOfTech
      @SoulOfTech  2 года назад

    • @DanielHarrisCodes
      @DanielHarrisCodes Год назад +1

      @@yesspaces I’ve not experienced a 40% loss just browsing for an hour, but I use Edge which sleeps tabs automatically. Not sure if that’s also in Chrome.
      I do agree battery is the worst part it seems particularly bad since they moved to Pro 8, Pro 7 was at least half decent.
      Like I said it’s easy to be a bit unfair to the Pro 8. For example I used my 11” iPad Pro to do a 1 hour Teams call on Friday and lost 22% battery.
      Everybody thinks the iPad has unbelievable battery life but certain tasks like this hammer it just as much as a Pro 8. iPad stands up way better for browsing though I agree.

I haven't really taken the laptop outside and it was religiously cared for. Worst of all the support team did not know what was wrong with it and wanted me to pay for a replacement. trolls will never tell you what specific model they had, how much it costs, exactly how long they owned the device, what they used to device for, or any other specific information. this allows them to post the same comment on totally different devices and a multitude of tech channels.

      Had similar problems with my surface pro 8... screen had a constant flicker, would randomly crash, and the type cover would randomly disconnect, applications became unresponsive to the slim pen etc. and required rebooting. When the screen randomly died part way through an online lecture (while still being able to hear my lecturer talking), I decided to return it! Got a replacement, and it lasted for a month or two before the same problems began popping up again! Got a refund, and now I'm happily on an M1 Macbook Air and loving it! MacOs is a bit of a learning curve though haha.
      Funny thing is, my wife also owns a Surface Pro 8, and had to return it last week due to crashing issues, a kickstand that didn't remain rigid, and the charging port stopped working! She received her replacement today so I guess only time will tell if this new one will work 😂
      Long story short, between the two of us, 3 out of 4 (so far) Surface Pro 8s that we've owned have had serious issues that are unacceptable for a premium priced device.

    Cons:

      A big issue with the battery if they haven't put adaptive refresh rate into Windows 11 yet.....at least not properly. It only lowers to 60hz when a full screen video is playing - Really wish they'd got this in by now as it really is needed.
      This is probably why the device defaults to 60hz out of the box, but to me it's not worth using it at 60hz as the whole point of the Pro range is to make use of the pen, and it's way better at 120Hz (the same way the Apple Pencil is way better on an iPad Pro rather than a cheaper iPad with lower refresh rate)
      I think because the Pro range has been around for so long, people forget it's a bit of a niche device and you really want to be that niche target user if you're going to buy one or you're probably better off with a laptop or just an iPad w/ magic keyboard cover

    ☹I've had 2 generations of Surface Pro, the latest being the 7. They work fine for about a year. The earlier model with the screen buzz became unusable at about 13 months, thus out of warranty. Microsoft wouldn't lift a finger to do anything. So, like a sheep (and because I liked the ultra-HD screen resolution), and after reading many reviews on the 7 model, I sunk another $1.4k into it. It worked fine. No screen issues at all. Drove all my peripherals just fine. I work with typically 7 to 10 windows open at any given time, and the did just great......until the day it died...about 16 months after it came to me, all spanking new and wonderful. Not even a blue screen. Wouldn't boot up even with professional help from two IT professionals. The problem with these solid state hard drives is that there is no way they can be revived, even with "recovery" software. They just plain die, and you're left with a very expensive, very flat, brick. My advice, after my spending over $2,500 on these-- DO NOT buy a Microsoft Surface Pro.

      I love the form factor and the screen, but man, it's been a huge disappointment. I think this lineup will be perfect once they get good ARM chip in (yes SPX exists, but it's even more underpowered) or at least AMD if they stick with x86. But until then I'd pass on it. I'm unfortunstely stuck with mine, so I guess I'll just have to live with it or try selling it while I can.

    I got a Surface laptop (3, I believe) from my father, who could not get it to work correctly upon purchase. I found out why: the display showed a strip meaning a defective component (which was later quoted for $700+ to be replaced beyond warranty), the keyboard section began to get bloated from the presumably bloated battery, and the computer would show the blue screen of death once a month. MS makes excellent software, but they are not a great hardware maker in any sense... I will likely be choosing a Macbook as a work laptop due to this experience...

    THIS is the review I should have watched before getting the device. Pretty much every reviewer gave glowing recommendations and I listened, but man, this thing kinda sucks. I've had two blue screens within the first week, one time it got stuck in black screen for an hour or so, yay. Then 4K 60hz signal doesn't work, it looks distorted and noisy like a broken VHS tape from the 90s. Also, my wireless mouse keeps disconnecting for no reason AND as icing on the cake, yes, it gets hot and throttles - it's uncomfortably hot even while doing simple drawing in photoshop. Absolute garbage, I cannot believe I paid 2K for this and am now stuck with it. Stay away people!

      The iPad Pro was just a point of reference it was not intended as a direct comparison. With that said the Surface Pro suffers in the performance department which is why I used the iPad a reference of better performance.

    Battery life is 10-11 hours per PCMark 10 battery test. If you don't use a standardized test, your battery results are not creditable, replicable, or useful. And iPad Pros have about 5-6 hours of battery life per Windows Central.
    As for expensive, who buys tech, or anything else, at full retail price? Best Buy, Amazon, and MS all have sales all the time (which is every other month). MS just finished an Easter sale where Surface Pro 8s were discounted between $200-$350 depending on the model.
