    My father left our family when I was 5 years old and he decided to continue his life with another woman. He just forgot about me for the next 5-7 years but he was living about 500 meters near my house. It was really hard for me to figure out how to be a real good man and how to behave as a man because I had no one who could tell or show me that... The only good thing is that my father taught me a lesson because he showed me the behavior that I must eliminate from mine. He showed me the version of a person that I shouldn't ever become...

    “Pursue making how you feel align with reality as opposed to letting reality be aligned to how you feel.”

      @@oakla-video512 from what i understand, it's, in simple terms:
      feel whats actually happening in reality. dont change reality in your head by following your emotions.
      "pursue making how you feel align with reality" means "feel things that reflect reality." eg. if you got a job, be happy. yes, you didnt get the job you wanted, but you got a job, so dont ignore that by ONLY focusing on what you didnt get.
      the opposite is also true, "letting reality be aligned to how you feel," which means, "dont change reality in your head by following your emotions." following the previous example, it means feeling SO sad abt the job you never got that you literally forget you got your 2nd top choice.
      (thats what i got but someone better fact check me)

      start doing the action first, the motivation will follow. don't wait for the motivation to appear for you to take the action.

    Ending is clearly an emotional roller coaster.
    Also best tip about productivity: if you feel unproductive check on 3 simple things:
    - physical activity
    - eating
    - sleep
    If you lack any of those it gets a lot harder to gain motivation

      @sharathkumark9692 2 года назад +3

      And start doing even though you don't feel like you wanna do.
      I watched a video on motication from a channel(which is related to mental health), It's a cycle were you get motivation when you do and accomplish something that you like, and you need motivation to do the same. Motivating yourself is about beaking that cycle and start *DOING* things.
      Hope this helps

    • @user-lb1ib8rz4h
      @user-lb1ib8rz4h 2 года назад +5

      @@sharathkumark9692 a lot of youtube channels about mental health simply don't know what they're talking about. you have to figure out the line between "i'm feeling a bit lazy to start" vs "i'm burnt out on this thing" and forcing yourself to start in the latter case is incredibly unhealthy. for the former case, you should still try to figure out what that barrier is to starting in the first place, so rather than having to force yourself to start, you can craft an environment for yourself where starting, if you're actually enjoying it, becomes easier.
      relying on "motivation" isn't necessarily the best idea in the first place - you have to rely on the environment to be set up to make you succeed. and if you can't craft that environment... that's where you have to look deeper.

    As a longtime psychotherapist (turning into a software dev), I can't tell you how many young college students would come to therapy and want to "find their motivation" again. This rings so true. It was such a shock to the system to have to do stuff that wasn't on the top of their list of things to do when there were so many other fun things to do. I love it. I always said, "Motivation is not something that you find and keep. It's something that keeps you doing things. When you start something hard, you have to realize it's gonna feel uncomfortable and difficult. Fight the feeling to do nothing!!!

    Thank you so much for taking your time to make these videos. As someone who is self taught, it's tough to know what's normal and what isn't. To me, goals aren't achieved by motivation, motivation is created when goals are reached. I have so many goals I want to achieve for myself. I'm often referred to as a machine in my company because I'm constantly studying and building in my free time. This isn't because I'm explicitly motivated to do these things, but because these goals are important to me. When I start to see some real progress, I start to feel motivation to do more.

    I think this is spot on. There are many great resources that dive really deep into motivation and drive, but also I think there's much more that are hurtful and somewhat dangerous. People to tend to go to extremes, so they would either sit and wait for the magical motivation to come or the would go and become that grind machine that will eventually lead to depression and burnout.
    I deeply believe that the only reasonable way to move forward in life is to set a goal, and then just go towards it, celebrating every step along the way. Every time I don't feel like it but I actually put the work in and accomplish something I feel amazing.
    Worst thing one can do it to put oneself down whenever something goes south, or feel unmotivated. As we age we tend to better understand ourselves and what drives us, what's actually important and we start making better decisions and it's easier to just keep going.
    Time in the saddle at the finest.

    Motivation comes so much more when you are in motion. How many times have you started something you didn't want to do at first and then thought it was not so bad? I also think it comes so much more when you are in a creator mindset (coding) rather than consumer mindset (reading news/social medias) and have a clear end in mind.

I didn't communicate my position well, I got treated pretty poorly in a passive aggressive way. But I'm trying to not let that kill my "motivation" my "passion" no matter how crap I feel in my heart. I use the same for gym motivation as with my work. Especially for me as someone who has ADHD personality, There are so many distractions these days that will easily break any momentum requiring more motivation the next time, further depleting the resource pool of available motivation. So for me, I use the steps:
    1) show up 2) close off any distractions 3) start with a easy win for warmup 4) go for the toughest thing that needs to be completed.

The apathy set in within a year of being in engineering. This is some straight fatherly wisdom! I really appreciate the transparency and honesty my man. By powering through to finish this video it shows how you’re walking the walk and giving the advice you wanted but didn’t get growing up. You’re being a dad to the next generation with this video. That is such a huge gift to men that are growing up like you did that find this video. Thank you for your encouragement and helping others learn what you learned the hard way.

    Many of the greatest people grow up with shit life guidance. Very unfortunate. The great silver-lining is that everything you make for yourself, the growth in your life, that is all first-hand perseverance. Strive for growth and understanding and harmony within your life, it will set you free.

    So much truth in this..
    Small anecdote - when I started working out regularly, everything else in my life started going out well. Why? Because working out on a schedule taught me the value of showing up and doing it despite not wanting to, and it now applies to everything else in life as well.

    I appreciate you very much. I watched a few tech videos first, because they caught my attention. But after hearing you talk about private stuff and unpopular opinions, I felt an even deeper connection. I am 28 years old and have a wife and 2 wonderful kids. I was diagnosed with ADHD ~1 year ago. I struggled to be a husband and father for a long time, I always felt distracted at work. I was really disappointed of myself and unhappy with my situation. But for some time now, after visiting a psychotherapist and with gods help, I can start to see my career and private life from a completely different angle. When you said "how I feel versus what I need to get done I call maturity", I could not agree more. I think that more responsibility that is taken care of can lead to a more fulfilled life, as long as it's balanced. Embracing that for 2 months now boosted my wellbeing to over 9000. Thank you

    That's really great you've made that video and said that out loud. When I watching stream/video, reading twitter or blog posts of people that are great devs or other "successful" people, I often have a feeling that I'm doing something wrong or I'm not smart enough to do things like they are. That makes me feel awful, even if "logically" I KNOW that isn't reality and only my idea of someone. So, if someone telling it's not a full reality (like you here), makes me feel better and doesn't deceit myself that I would never be like someone. Thanks.

I felt like a “jack of all trade, master of none”. I started learning to code, and am finally really excited about something. I finally found my passion, but am also going through major life changes and trying not to sink into depression. I really needed this video. Thank you for pushing through how you felt, because this video really inspired me and gave confirmation that I needed.

      Also not a programmer :). But I recently started seriously learning, and am working on an ML-powered trading bot as a hobby. I met a programmer on a public discord server who basically just told me to "read the python docs" (which was singularly the most useful thing I have ever done to try and learn to program) and pointed me to Prime's channel a few months ago, and yeah, Prime is an all-around G. I would definitely like to see how Prime would approach data science and ML and advice for beginners. I've set my life on the path towards nanotechnology R&D, and programming is a skill I am developing more to supplement that.
