Ending is clearly an emotional roller coaster.
Also best tip about productivity: if you feel unproductive check on 3 simple things:
    - physical activity
    - eating
    - sleep
If you lack any of those it gets a lot harder to gain motivation

And start doing even though you don't feel like you wanna do.
I watched a video on motication from a channel(which is related to mental health), It's a cycle were you get motivation when you do and accomplish something that you like, and you need motivation to do the same. Motivating yourself is about beaking that cycle and start *DOING* things.
      Hope this helps

    • @user-lb1ib8rz4h
      @user-lb1ib8rz4h Год назад +5

@@sharathkumark9692 a lot of youtube channels about mental health simply don't know what they're talking about. you have to figure out the line between "i'm feeling a bit lazy to start" vs "i'm burnt out on this thing" and forcing yourself to start in the latter case is incredibly unhealthy. for the former case, you should still try to figure out what that barrier is to starting in the first place, so rather than having to force yourself to start, you can craft an environment for yourself where starting, if you're actually enjoying it, becomes easier.
relying on "motivation" isn't necessarily the best idea in the first place - you have to rely on the environment to be set up to make you succeed. and if you can't craft that environment... that's where you have to look deeper.

    • @eirdonne_
      @eirdonne_ Год назад +2

@@oakla-video512 from what i understand, it's, in simple terms:
feel whats actually happening in reality. dont change reality in your head by following your emotions.
"pursue making how you feel align with reality" means "feel things that reflect reality." eg. if you got a job, be happy. yes, you didnt get the job you wanted, but you got a job, so dont ignore that by ONLY focusing on what you didnt get.
the opposite is also true, "letting reality be aligned to how you feel," which means, "dont change reality in your head by following your emotions." following the previous example, it means feeling SO sad abt the job you never got that you literally forget you got your 2nd top choice.
(thats what i got but someone better fact check me)

Thank you so much for taking your time to make these videos. As someone who is self taught, it's tough to know what's normal and what isn't. To me, goals aren't achieved by motivation, motivation is created when goals are reached. I have so many goals I want to achieve for myself. I'm often referred to as a machine in my company because I'm constantly studying and building in my free time. This isn't because I'm explicitly motivated to do these things, but because these goals are important to me. When I start to see some real progress, I start to feel motivation to do more.

As a longtime psychotherapist (turning into a software dev), I can't tell you how many young college students would come to therapy and want to "find their motivation" again. This rings so true. It was such a shock to the system to have to do stuff that wasn't on the top of their list of things to do when there were so many other fun things to do. I love it. I always said, "Motivation is not something that you find and keep. It's something that keeps you doing things. When you start something hard, you have to realize it's gonna feel uncomfortable and difficult. Fight the feeling to do nothing!!!

I think this is spot on. There are many great resources that dive really deep into motivation and drive, but also I think there's much more that are hurtful and somewhat dangerous. People to tend to go to extremes, so they would either sit and wait for the magical motivation to come or the would go and become that grind machine that will eventually lead to depression and burnout.
I deeply believe that the only reasonable way to move forward in life is to set a goal, and then just go towards it, celebrating every step along the way. Every time I don't feel like it but I actually put the work in and accomplish something I feel amazing.
Worst thing one can do it to put oneself down whenever something goes south, or feel unmotivated. As we age we tend to better understand ourselves and what drives us, what's actually important and we start making better decisions and it's easier to just keep going.
Time in the saddle at the finest.

Hey Prime, these vids are incredibly helpful...
I also grew up without a dad and also have ADHD. I've been a Front-End dev for 15 years but I always struggled to do "the work that sucks". I used to dodge everything that required that extra grind and effort. Looking back now I've been EXTREMELY lucky to find jobs that only required the kind of work I loved to do and not the one I hated doing. Now however for the first time in my life as a navigate unemployment I've been getting some perspective on how lucky I've been, and for the first time I want my "luck" to be more aligned with my efforts. I'm doubling down on courses and training for things I never enjoyed doing and I'm sure it'll all be worth it looking back.

I use the same for gym motivation as with my work. Especially for me as someone who has ADHD personality, There are so many distractions these days that will easily break any momentum requiring more motivation the next time, further depleting the resource pool of available motivation. So for me, I use the steps:
    1) show up 2) close off any distractions 3) start with a easy win for warmup 4) go for the toughest thing that needs to be completed.

Man, your content and energy really motivates me. And all that you said I can relate, we are not told do get motivation inside of ourselves, but thinking a light will come up on our heads. I really appreciate your way of being real, sharing personal deep and funny situations, that's real life. That may sound cliché, but you are one of the few people I just click right away to watch the videos ~blazingly fast~
Much love and admiration from a Brazilian fan!

That helps alot and play a great role on staying motivated

You know I love you Prime UwU. Y'all got this (Me included, hopefully).
Can totally relate with the not feeling motivated at all to do crap. I had the notion that the novel feeling I felt when I started off would be constant. The apathy set in within a year of being in engineering. Now I am making changes in my perspective so that I stay connected to what reality is because this crushing feeling in my case was caused by the hyperrealistic expectation of enjoyment from my work.
TLDR: (In my opinion) Do stuff, you'll feel great at best and meh at worst. But do stuff because you made this choice. You got this!

Thank you for sharing this, exactly what I needed to hear! I had been "going by the feel" for several years now, and only very recently did I start to realize that I'm unable to get any long term goals or projects done with my current working habits. Your point about feeling the drive once you get rolling is something I have indeed experienced before, and I think it's a good reason to go for a more planned way of organizing my time!

Had to write an exam about java this semester, failed hard because i couldn't get any motivation learning this language. I've started reading books about rust and go, but that uni forces me to learn java really kills alot of motivation :(

yeah. this is truly where maturity needs to play a key role. You have to set aside how you feel and just push through for the sake of winning. I totally get not working in a language you love. I work in c++ all the time and I absolutely hate that language.

Your kids are very lucky, as is your audience (me included)! In regards to your video about carefully choosing your mentors; you are definitely a VERY good mentor if you ask me.
Also, I'm glad you don't shy away from giving your "hot takes". Sometimes people don't think they want to hear the hard truths, but once the truth is spoken, that's when the seeds of inspiration, hope, and direction can be planted.
    Thank you Primeagen!!

Never commented on your videos but this video deserves it. Going through tough times at the moment and motivation is really hard to find. That's a self-destructive loop, the less you accomplish the less you are motivated. I have to start breaking that loop even though I feel like shit that can't do anything. Thank you for this video.

I appreciate you very much. I watched a few tech videos first, because they caught my attention. But after hearing you talk about private stuff and unpopular opinions, I felt an even deeper connection. I am 28 years old and have a wife and 2 wonderful kids. I was diagnosed with ADHD ~1 year ago. I struggled to be a husband and father for a long time, I always felt distracted at work. I was really disappointed of myself and unhappy with my situation. But for some time now, after visiting a psychotherapist and with gods help, I can start to see my career and private life from a completely different angle. When you said "how I feel versus what I need to get done I call maturity", I could not agree more. I think that more responsibility that is taken care of can lead to a more fulfilled life, as long as it's balanced. Embracing that for 2 months now boosted my wellbeing to over 9000. Thank you

This really resonates with my right now. I'm working in a job that doesn't provide a lot of challenge, and I've taken on some side projects that while initially I was very excited about, the initial 20% died down. I've been stuck in a loop of feeling unmotivated and automatically going to play video games, sometimes the entire way through the work day and into the evening afterwards. Yesterday I deleted them from my machine after noticing the sheer amount of stuff I was putting off piling up around me. Trying to "stay clean" for the next 28 days to get my health and my sleep back in order and hopefully make it a little easier to be the person I want to be again and find that passion to pursue what I want to achieve. Thanks for making videos like this Michael, they help me stay on track and get my life to where I want it to be. You're a legend man 🙏🏻
