Hard to break the habit of always finishing your plate when that's the way you've been raised but it's one of the simplest way to control weight gain: stop eating when you're satiated, not when you're full.
Most people don't even know what satiated vs full even feels like. That's one of the issues. Lol. It's why measuring out portions is the way most folks go.
So fucking true. I honestly can’t stop until i have something still on the plate, it’s like i feel satiated ONLY after everything is gone. Luckily i never needed to lose weight but fuck it’s weird how the way you’ve been raised can alter your physiological perception

Hi Alan, just wanted to say hi and thank you for carrying on my work. Some of the powerlifters at sweat4health brought your videos to my attention and mentioned that you share my quirky sense of humor.
I’m def a huge proponent of counting calories. But I really liked how even if you’re not counting, just having ONE protein And ONE carb at each meal... will naturally shift you into eating less. Great advise!

I used to preach the same thing to my Marines who were on the run for lunch bunch... your weight loss is apparent you can see it your face is much slimmer and your beard looks longer... as always great job keep posting the good videos and Semper Fi
Thank you for this. Honestly. The only person who I've ever seen mention working all day and having kids. Seriously, thank you. It's nice to hear someone else say it. Not everyone trying to lose weight can work out 5 hours a day and have a nutritionist. Single dad life.
Just don't eat shit that is of low nutritional value. Less junk food is always a good tip, no matter what your objective is. Dirty bulking isn't necessary Besides that, yeah, we just need to do the inverse.
Such good advice. It took me years to realize just planning to eat 3 real meals per day helps fend off the unnecessary snacks and drinks. Plus, I don't feel guilty eating a decent size fast food burger when needed for convenience..... by accounting for those calories within my day and not blowing it up with fries or dessert with it.
The #1 thing is planned and structured diet, because the only way for your body to burn fat is to use it as energy. Basically, you need to eat below your energy maintenance level (in terms of calories) and your fat cells will be used to compensate the missing energy (calories). That's how your body works. There are other things to consider as well, such as hormonal status, diseases... but caloric deficit is a must. You have a lot of online diet planners and calculators: for example dietarize, nextleveldiet, promusclegains. Losing/gaining weight is just a simple math, really...
Alan, I've been following you and your progress since before you opened untamed strength and I just feel like I should thank you for all the honest and great videos. I wish more people were like you.
Drinking is a double whammy for me because A) Drinking calories B) I'm more susceptible to eating a shit ton of fast food that's high in processed fats and processed carbs. And I'm in a social situation at least 4/7 days of the week where drinking a few beers is expected (softball league, cornhole league, then Friday & Saturday with the boys or out with the lady).
That was my issue until I realized the big idea: it only took one beer to affect the day after. I would have a hard time waking up the next morning, and I could definitely tell "yep I had a beer last night" and it didn't feel good. My mind then went to this idea: my choices are like sets of stairs, and when the step breaks on the first step I probably shouldn't follow through.
It's not the beer persay that puts on the lbs. It's the hunger decisions after consuming the beer.. the temptation of overeating bc of beer consumption. All you want is burgers or shit food. Gotta take baby steps to train your mind out of that. Good luck bud

Great video. Love the content, love the simplicity, and love the format. Simple advice delivered in a simple manner, in simple (but varied) settings. Something about the multiiple setting changes as you spoke made it that much more engaging, great work.
Great advice. I lost nearly 40 pounds training hard, eliminating liquid calories and just being mindful about what I was eating. It's a common sense approach and not a fad diet. When you simply moderate your behavior, you don't feel like you're on a diet, and that makes it sustainable. The best diet program in the world is the one you don't realize you are on. Great advice.
love #4. I can't get through diets long term without cheat meals - but I will often go overboard just to make them "worth it" - when all I'm really doing is undoing any progress I've made before. "you can't always control your situation - " but you can control what you put into your body.
Stopping myself from overeating was the hardest one for me to overcome but the rest came pretty easily after. Having parents who would always nag you for not finishing what's on the plate or harass you to eat more really was some stuff I had to unlearn.
That’s really how bad habits start. I was made to finish what was on my plate, and my ‘reward’ was desert. Constantly overeating, I became a chubby child, got teased at school, and started comfort eating. Vicious circle.
Helpful thing for me was always overestimating my calories instead of underestimating. Like an egg has 78 calories but if I’m cutting I will tell myself it has 120 calories. I know it’s weird but it works for me.
Great tips, I was 420lbs last May and I'm currently 314lbs today. Been a long journey but I'm always looking to improve my game! So thanks....

This video is great. Really practical real world choices. Also that "I don't need to know about your glycogen level" comment cracked me up.
"Side of cheesburger' 🤣
Great video! There is also the “Werner Herzog” diet: Just eat the same you normally do, but only 1/3 of it 😁
Today's "Train untaameeeddddd" sounded more like "Train on time". Is this a secret 6th tip???
I hear you on that parent trying to have you eat the scraps that the family doesn't finish.
That’s really how bad habits start. I was made to finish what was on my plate, and my ‘reward’ was desert. Constantly overeating, I became a chubby child, got teased at school, and started comfort eating. Vicious circle.
"your hunger meter is inaccurate." pure gospel.
Hunger gauge*
@NOTREALLY HANKAARON he is just so much right. If ye eat until yer hunger feeling goes away, ye'll never and ever gonna lose 1g weight.
"Side of cheeseburger" - LOL
Brilliant. So simple and direct. Honest and helpful!
Well done Alan
And remember... don’t move the barbell!
The most amazing video about eating... ever. Well done!!!
"Side salad with a side of ranch and a side of.... Another cheeseburger please" 😂
"side of cheeseburger"
made me grin like an idiot
Helpful thing for me was always overestimating my calories instead of underestimating. Like an egg has 78 calories but if I’m cutting I will tell myself it has 120 calories. I know it’s weird but it works for me.
Thanks for the tip! I'll try that one out
He really mentioned some relatable mistakes. Thank you for the reminder mister Beard man
this is the best video I've seen regarding weight loss. legend
