So 3M has to be used on the MacBook itself? I got an impression from the Instagram ad that both sides were magnetic and that it would just grab onto the aluminum body of my MacBook, then the magsafe charger would connect on the other end. It's not a deal breaker, but I'm now considering a clamshell case for the computer, so the 3M adhesive doesn't ruin the aluminum body of the computer.
I bought a polycarbonate clamshell skin for my MacBook for this very reason. I stuck the steel disks onto the shell, not directly to my laptop, so that the laptop itself will be flawless if I want to sell it or exchange it someday. I'll still use the wire (lubricated with Goof Off, Goo Gone, or similar) to remove the plates from the shell when I get a new laptop: the clamshell will be all scuffed up by then and probably won't fit the new laptop, but the EdgePro mounting discs are durable enough to last a lifetime of laptops.
Just got mine today and am excited. Thank you! I’m still not sure I understand the function of the nano suction layer. How is it supposed to be used? Also, Can the standard sticker on the back of the plates be reused after they have been removed?
Got my full kit! 2 cores, a light and a charger. Everything is amazing. My only feedback is that I wish the light was press and hold to turn on and off. Right now its only press and hold to turn off. But I turn it on by accident many times because you just need to barely press it once.
Good idea. I hope they add this feature to future lights. (My old Edge Mount light puck had the same issue; I just expected it to be dead on arrival and always charged it right before using it)
A tip for slicing through the adhesive with that wire: use a Qtip or toothpick to add a drop of Goo Gone or Goof Off to the wire a couple of times once you’ve gotten started and it begins sticking. If you pull too hard the wire will snap, but a solvent like these will lubricate the wire and help it cut through. Don’t rush, take your time, but don’t stop or leave it for a while or the adhesive will set again! (Thank you, Rolling Square, for using an excellent adhesive!)
Glad you said that but too late for me. The wire is done!!! No instructions on getting it removed. Simple things like this will make customers stop buying.
@jakobe! When removing the Edge Pro metal plates, I'd suggest using nylon or floss as an alternative. Gently slide it back and forth in a left-to-right motion to loosen the adhesive. Additionally, you can try using a hair dryer to soften the sticker, but make sure it's not too close to the device to prevent any damage. Hope this helps!
Hello! I received mine and am confused about what should I use for which function. What's the difference from the metal plate to the metal disc? Can I use the metal disc on a wall for example? What is the function of the nano suction layer? What does the plate protection layer do? A FAQ / manual or other dedicated videos would be very welcome for a product of such quality and excellent design!
Hi there! Thanks a lot for your feedback, we have added a FAQs section below the main video, where we have also replied to your questions and we will reply to any further questions you may have. You can find it on rsqr.ch/edgepro. Thanks!
Question! I just received my full kit from your Kickstarter. Can I attach the Edge Pro to the iPad Pro’s Magic Keyboard or can I only be applied onto the iPad itself?
Whats the best position for plates on my macbook pro if I want to attach a phone and sometimes an ipad? I noticed in the video, the phone placement is centered vertically on the macbook screen but the ipad plates are on the top and bottom.
I bought three for this reason! If you only want your phone (light, etc) to attach on the side, you can just use two on one side for your iPad. When you want your phone there instead, fold back (or remove!) one of the Edge Pros. But if you want to mount your phone above your laptop screen sometimes, you’ll need an extra sticky-mount. You might find an extra steel mounting plate in your Edge Pro boxes… you can use a round one, not an oval one, since the weight of the phone will not make the Edge Pro turn like it might while hanging on the side of your screen.
Is it possible to use this with a MacBook that has a Dbrand skin on? I'm just thinking this would mean if the edgepro ever needed to be removed, it could be by removing the skin also.. Another question - will this work with a MacBook Air and iPad Pro (with Logitech Combo case)? I'm a little concerned the iPad Pro will be too heavy for the MacBook Air..
Hi Martin, the MacBook Air should be able to hold the iPad Pro 11-inch, while probably not the 12.9-inch. Regarding the skin/cases, unfortunately we couldn't test all cases on the market, but as long as the skin/case surface is flat and doesn't have soft-touch/silicone finishing, the EDGE Pro plate should stick to it just fine.
@@High_Key Why would you want to stick an EdgePro to the keyboard instead of the back of the screen? If you want your phone down there, just ...lay it on the table next to your keyboard. Oh! Are you using your phone as a numeric keypad or something, in your lap? Clever. If so, sure, you could attach the steel mounting plate to the bottom of your keyboard. Of course, you'd want to use a smooth round plate, not the slightly ovoid plate with the knob that sticks out.
The base plate doesn't need to be magnetic, just a certain kind of steel that magnets strongly attract. I do have a magnetic phone holder in my car, and the EdgePro magnet sticks fine to that, but the two magnetic fields interact oddly: you can't turn it exactly the way you want, they orient themselves at a certain angle because both the base and the EdgePro have strong but different magnetic fields. Better to have a non-magnetic but highly ferrous thing on one side or the other.
Just placed my on my MacBook and decided I wanted to a different position. However, I’m using the thin string attached with gloves and it’s not budging at all.. any additional tips on removal?
Ordered 3 edge pros and have broken two of the strings and still cannot remove..and one of the string broke underneath the adhesive..Im starting to think they’re stuck on there forever. Good thing I had a case on
Had this problem too, broke one of my two wires, but fortunately I had some Goo Gone nearby. It is a very strong cleaning solvent that's mostly citrus oil. I use it to remove adhesive residue from glass jars Use that to lubricate the wire. Pull it left and right, back and forth beneath the mounting plate, as if you are "flossing" it off, re-applying Goo Gone (or whatever) as soon as the wire begins sticking in the adhesive again. Requires patience. Worked like a charm. BUT be very careful not to get any of the solvent / citrus oil onto your keyboard or into your machine. I don't know what would happen, but it can't be good.
Hi Vinod, the same steps you would use to attach EDGE Pro to a laptop would also apply when using a monitor. Is there any particular doubt you have on how to mount EDGE Pro to a monitor? We are here to help
One thing about most monitor backs: they tend to be slightly curved. The steel mounting plate is perfectly flat (as it should be). This means only a thin part of the plate will make direct contact with the curved surface of your monitor back. I'm not sure how to solve this. The nano suction thing seems to help: it's like an unusually thick adhesive disk that squishes a bit, making a larger area of contact between the plate and the curved plastic of the back of my monitor. Unfortunately, my heavy phone and EdgePro together make it wobble a bit. I suspect the wobble will make the adhesion degrade over time. I have zero concern for the aesthetic appearance of the back of my monitor, so I am seriously considering using Liquid Nail construction adhesive to fill the gaps, fore and aft, under the steel mounting plate. It dries hard as rock. No more wobble. Yes, this means I'll never recover that mounting plate (unless I cut that piece out of the monitor and carve away the Liquid Nails globs with a Dremel tool or something?). But I could just buy another mounting plate from RollingSquare instead... and I will definitely scar my next monitor-back by using Liquid Nails from the beginning! ;-)
Great of you to in no way show that mounting these involved any more than just magnets…currently staring at 4 I just recieved plus a whole heap of crap in the box wondering if it will even serve its advertised purpose 👏👏👏
Hey there! Unfortunately, we weren't able to develop a magnetic system that works without the metal plates because well... Laptops are either made with plastic or aluminium and neither is magnetic! We try to make it as clear as we can on product pages, but in case you missed it you can always return it to us for a full refund by emailing support@rollingsquare.com. Thank you for your support! :D
@@RollingSquaredon’t worry. People that actually understand how metal and magnets work also understand you have limitations too. It would be awesome if y’all had a non-adhesive mounting system for iPad pros that have the giant magnet built in it for their Magic Keyboard. But I’ll be fine with the makeshift mounting system y’all designed for now. Using sidecar has never felt so good!
Hi Jeffrey, at the moment you can pre-order it on Indiegogo, it will ship in about 2 weeks. As soon as we are done shipping all backers orders, EDGE Pro will also be available on our official store rollingsquare.com. Thanks!
Not if you do it carefully. The wire won't damage the laptop if you're "flossing" the mounting plate off, parallel to the surface of the laptop. If you are pulling the wire around the edge of your screen so that it gouges into your screen edge, then sure, it might mar the aluminum a bit! Use Goo Gone or another citrus oil or similar solvent as a lubricant for the cutting wire, or it will get stuck deep in the adhesive and snap. (glad they send two wires...)

Hi,
Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal, and not magnetic. So to stick something on the MacBook body you will need a sticker.

the nano suction layer is supposed to be a replacement if you decide to take off the edge mount pro.
