    Dirk Diggler Hey man, your idea worked!! I ended up using a wire coat hanger, pushed it through both cabin and engine grommets, and wrapped the coat hanger around the wire connector from the engine side. Then I wrapped it all in electrical tape and sprayed it down with the soap/water solution, and pulled it through. Sorta difficult, but got it done! Thanks again!!

    Thank you for doing such a detailed guide! lucky for me, i got the same kit you did and wasn't sure on how to go about it. You made this install a piece of cake! One thing I had to do differently was the wires through the firewall. I didn't have the same piece in my car, so I basically just routed the wires along where my boost gauge tubing was. I went and bought a pair of Hella Xenon Yellow bulbs which were much brighter than the bulbs that came with the kit. took me about 4 hours... i'm sure i can do it much faster if i had to do it again tho :)

      After I made the video I realized that the plate was a cover for the cars with the manual transmission. But it sounds like you were able to figure it out.
      I think I'm going to change the bulbs as well. Thanks for the tip.
      For less than $60, the kit is a great value.

    i installed mine today, my harness was different than yours, i had to route it under the radiator. i also snipped the switch cable and ran it through the grommet with all the other wires. worked out pretty good overall.

    Dirk, I got my lights with the harness. The Chevy guy doesn't recommend the injector circuit, but we did find a 10 amp circuit under the hood. I talked to spyder and they recommend that you just take the wire you put to the fuse and splice it

  • @mateo1994
    @mateo1994 8 лет назад +1

    I know this is old but since I see there is recent comment I thought I'd ask a question. I have these spyder foglights. Looks exactly like this one except I have 3 grounds. Two black, and one red. I watched this video as a guide and did everything just like you did but I'm getting no power in the lights. My switch turns green and red when I click it so there's power going to it but there's no response from the lights. I emailed them and they sent me a new pair free of charge and the exact same configuration and same exact problem is happening. I tried with the fuse tap and just sticking the power wire into the fuse hole and both same results. Power to the switch but nothing else. Do you have any ideas what it could be?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 лет назад

      It sounds like the relay is bad. Check for 12v at the relay when you have the switch on. If you have 12v at the relay but it's not closing the switch to allow the voltage to pass through I would say the relay is bad.

    Hey Dirk- Thanks for the great video! I do like the ides of mounting the supplied switch on the fuse door.
    A couple of questions:
    1- My kit did not include the screws- what size are they? I'll purchase them locally.or should I get the GM screws?
    2- My guess is that you have a hoist to lift the car. For those of us who don't have that convenience - Where do you put the jack to pick it up? It looks pretty low to do it on your back.
    3- Do you know- If I was to purchase a OEM switch Can you hook into this wiring assy. to operate the Fog lights?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  9 лет назад

      Thanks for watching.
      For the screws, you can use sheet metal screws. Just make sure you get the correct length. I actually used some left over trim screws for plastic gutters. That's why they are white in the video.
      You don't need a lift. I had the car up on ramps. There is a video on my channel that talks about the extensions I built to get the car on the ramps with no damage due to it sitting so low.
      The OEM switch wouldn't work since the wiring is different and it goes back to the PCM.
      Let me know if you need anything else.

    Is there any additional draw on the fuel injector relay fuse that you tapped into? If so does it cause any problems with overall engine performance? I am concerned because my 2013 has power issues while just running the AC.

      They’ve been installed for almost 5 years at this point and I’ve had zero impact with how I’m supplying power.

    I am going to be making the addition of fog lamps to my wifes car for winter. what I am wanting to know is why the hell would you put the lights on a cructial circuit like the injection system? I see the point of not wanting to go to your battery but why wouldn't you splice the power wire to from the relay to the low beam switch so that the fog lights are deactivated when you switch to high beam from low beam, as is the law in most states. Also there are other blocks in that pannel that are assc-on that should be unused, you just have to find them with a power probe. lastly that "driver thingy" you loved so much is called a thumb wheel.

  • @markbardeen5286
    @markbardeen5286 9 лет назад

    to the parking light. Also since there is the relay thry say it's no problem putting the main power lead to the battery. your thoughts?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  9 лет назад

      The problem with putting it to the battery is that the switch with the led indicator will cause a parasitic draw since it will now be lit all of the time even with car being off.
      I've been running it like this for almost a year now and there's been no issues so far.

    Dirk Diggler I have a 2013 Cruze Eco that's a 6 speed manual. The plate that the switch wire is supposed to pass through is already affixed with the clutch assembly... How do I get the switch wire into the cabin another way?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  9 лет назад

      Ben,
      Correct that plate is for the clutch linkage in the manual cars.
      What you would need to do is to go through the existing rubber grommet that is located to the left of the plate that is inside the car.
      The easiest way to do this is too take a rod with a rounded point and tape the end of the switch harness to it. Spray down the rod and grommet with a soap and water solution and push it through. Just make sure that you don't have any sharp edges and it will slide right through.
      Thanks

    • @StreetersGarage

      You could tap into the headlight wiring in the front of the car to do this. However I'm not sure that the headlight circuit is designed to support the additional draw and voltage load that the foglights would put on it.

    I was able to follow up until the wiring part. Grounding the wires, mounting the relay, and adding a wiretap to the on/off button was easy, but my kit came with a white wire that had a 30amp fuse that I don't know where to connect to. The instructions just say "battery", but it's a 10mm connector. Do I splice that wire to the wiretape line? I'm worried about overloading my computer.

      @@StreetersGarage I noticed you had two wires running to the fuse box. My kit came with a red wire to the switch, and a white wire that attached to the fuse. I believe the white wire on mine might be the red wire from your fuse. Did you splice the red wire from the fuse and the red wire for the switch into one and connect it to the fuse box? Thank you for your time :)

    So if you installed by splicing into the headlights if you would make sure the headlights are off when leaving vehicle there would still be the parastatic draw you are talking about? My headlights automatically go off when I remove key and exit vehicle. I want to do it your way just want to make sure it is perfectly fine to do it that way. Thanx

    when the plastic rivets under the car are removed do they need to be replaced with new ones or are the designed to be used again. some rivets like that are broken when pulled out. and then you have to order a new set to replace them.

    Thanks for doing this video! I have a 2012 Cruze Eco. I have an OEM fog light kit sitting in the garage uninstalled. I'm thinking about ordering the Spyder kit just to use the inserts with the chrome trim (my car is black, and I think the chrome is a nice touch that isn't available from OEM unless you have RS) with the OEM housings, wiring and switch.
    What are your thoughts on the fit and finish of the Spyder kit? I'd hate to install these and have the chrome start flaking off after a few months. Thanks!

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  9 лет назад

      Glad you liked it.
      After a year of having them on I haven't had any issues with the chrome flaking or peeling. They've held up pretty well after 20k miles up in the northeast with the sand and salt from the past winter. A bulb blew about 3 months ago but that's the only problem I've had
      Fit is pretty good for an aftermarket kit, however I've never looked at the GM kit so really don't have it anything to compare it with.
      I like the chrome accents as well. It goes well with the grill and the silver of the car.
      Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for watching!!

    Couldn't you just run power off existing lights witch would make it automatically kick on and off? Then you wouldn't need a relay or a fuse because there is already a fuse there for the headlights?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  9 лет назад

      Dusten Seffron You could but I wanted control of when the fogs were on. I didn't want the fogs to be automatically on when the running lights were on.
      Doing it with the relay and the fuse is the preferred way to do it since it creates a protected circuit versus just running directly to the voltage source where you could run into an overload or shorted scenario,
      Thanks for watching!

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  9 лет назад

      Ryan, thanks for the compliment and watching.
      You could go along that route, but I honestly don't know if going into the running light circuit would be too much. I know people have done it, but I think they were using the LED marker light kits and not the full blown fog's. With electrical, I've always believed it's better to be cautious versus mechanical. Since once you overload the circuit, typically things start to melt and overheat and makes things worse.

I shut my car off and later went to the store and it would not go over 5000 rpm again, and then the check engine light came on and i read the codes, it was the fuel control system as well as the power train system. Any ideas as to whats going wrong with it?

      Scott Voit I can speak for the CAI personally but if you go over to CruzeTalk.Com there's are lot of discussion on how much of a POS this intake is. It seems the root issue is in the relation of the location of the MAF and the turbo inlet. I'm willing to bet if you put the everything back to stock.everything will go back to normal.

      You need to purchase the GM switch and install it. The BCM already has the programming for the fog's. It's looking for the input from the switch.

    Did my fog kit today and ran into problems tapping into the injector system. Car doesn't like it, malfunction light came on, reduced engine power, radio stopped working. I then disconnected the fuse tap from the injector system and all was ok. So my question is to which circuit do I tap into now?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 лет назад

      Sounds like you might have a bad fuse tap. What year is your Cruze?

    • @kobusvanniekerk2635
      @kobusvanniekerk2635 8 лет назад

      2011. I read somewhere on this post that another person had the same problem. The fuse tap is working because when I installed it in either fuse 8 or 9 (9 been better because more space) the fog lights worked perfect. When I packed up I realized the message on my dash. I had to disconnect everything and then my system worked again. The malfunction lamp stayed on a while but reset itself later. The message was " reduced engine power". I have noticed that there is a fuse in the fog lamp spot (48) but there doesn't appear to be any power there.

    • @kobusvanniekerk2635
      @kobusvanniekerk2635 8 лет назад

      Dirk why does the fuse tap have two slots for two fuses. I've been using one fuse. Should I use two fuses could that be the problem?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  8 лет назад

      +Kobus van niekerk that's your issue. The 2 slots are for the original circuit and the circuit you're adding. Each slot should have a fuse in it.

    My cruze, is a 2012 LT, it did not come with fog lights when I bought it, can you still install fog lights on the car?

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  10 лет назад

      Yes. You can either do what I did or purchase the OEM kit. Since you have a 2012, there's no programming that needs to be done to the BCM. On the early 2013 builds, they did not include the programming to turn the lights on.
      So it's essentially the same until you need to install the wiring to the fuse panel in the engine compartment. This thread will walk you through the steps.

      Did your kit come with a fuse? Mine did, so I'm not understanding where the fuse box comes into play

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  7 лет назад

      Shaun Holzbach
      Yes it did. In the video it's attached to the ground stud by the radiator support on the driver side.
      The fuse is there in the event you develop a dead short or exposed wire in the harness. The fuse would trip and stop all current from going to the harness and prevent it from overheating and catching fire.

    • @shaunholzbach7469
      @shaunholzbach7469 7 лет назад

      But then where does the fuse box come into play?! Like there's the fuse, which has a ground wire which I hooked up, then there's the relay, then the wires that connect to the battery. All that's hooked up, the light on the switch lights, but that's about it

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  7 лет назад

      Shaun Holzbach
      Ok. Did you join both of the red power lines like I did. One of them powers the switch and the other powers the fog lights.
      Also make sure both of the black grounds are hooked up. There's 2. If not, you'll get nothing as well.
      If all of that it fine, open the fuse holder and make sure the fuse is still good and not blown.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  10 лет назад

      yoshi1904 Not sure what you meant. The Spyder Auto like in my video or the GM kit.
      Anyway, if it stopped working, you need to start with all of the basic stuff first. Check your grounds and you voltage source. Get a multi meter and start checking for 12v from the start of your voltage source all the way to the fog light.

    • @armandomendez61
      @armandomendez61 10 лет назад

      Dirk Diggler it's not the gm kit, I bought it on ebay, so I went to see if it was the light bulbs and they werent they worked fine, the switch also works because a solid red line is on and when ever I press it it turns green (on and off ) so it is either the relay or the fuse

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  10 лет назад

      Ok. If you have power at the switch that's a good sign. Check the fuse first. Then if it's good. Take the fuse out and check for 12v with a meter with the switch in the on position.
      If nothing at the fuse. Check the source voltage going into the relay. Then check for voltage at the switched side of the realy with the switch on. Finally check for output voltage on the relay with the switch on.
