  • Simple Guide to troubleshooting Cyber Power battery backup units. With a double beeping issue, we are looking at a cp585lcd but I found this repair works for multiple units manufactured by cyberpower.
    The replacement battery I used was the amzn.to/3dULIAd

    Thanks, friend. We had the beeping go off after a short power outage, but the battery is 9 years old. It's installed in a handicap elevator where the elevator company charges $250 just to come out and check the problem, then another $250 to fix it plus parts. If the battery is dead, the elevator won't run - how convenient, huh? I think this will be easier to fix than the flux capacitor on our car.

    Question; what if you dont care about the battery for backing up i got one for free that came under my aquarium for the lights and filter and stuff and just want to use it for the plugs. is there a way to stop the beeping without replacing the battery? It really serves no purpose for an aquarium set up. Thanks

  • @Hubjeep

    This one is exactly the same as my 825AVR, even the same size battery. My 550VA says the battery is not replaceable, but if you have a security torx (T-10) you can remove the screw and remove the battery cover (or drill it out). The 550VA takes a slimmer battery (terminals closer together), same height and width (CPS 5.5-12).

    I have one of these, and one of the plug in receptacles had an issue and melted the plastic housing. I am presuming that its faulty. It is the last one on the right hand side, and its labeled Surge.
    Is it worth repairing the back up power supply or not?
    I have not used it since the damaged Surge plug was discovered.

      I just used a pair of pliers and some brute force. Just be sure to grip the connector left and right and NOT the wire.
      If you pull on the wire and it comes loose, then you have another project.😏

    I get a long continuous beep, would this work for that as well?

    • @kc9cuk
      @kc9cuk  4 года назад

      Unfortunately it sounds like your issue might be different. If you have a spare battery or something that could simulate a battery such as a 12 volt dc power supply you could see if it fixes the issue. You can also look online for the manual for your particular unit sometimes they have the beep codes in the troubleshooting section. Good luck fixing and troubleshooting is half the fun hope you get your unit back to life.

    I have this unit and I hope you can answer my question. Mine doesn't beep, but it does click every now and then. It will click on and off for a few minutes then stop. When I look on the lcd, the plug icon flashes on and off. Any idea what can be causing this? When it happens, my lights dim a bit. But the dimming stops when I unplug the unit from the wall

    • @kc9cuk
      @kc9cuk  3 года назад

      Sounds like your unit is switching from AC power and back to the battery backup over and over this could be caused by many things but most likely it is just doing a periodic self check for the power you have it plugged into is very unstable. The clicking sound you are hearing is the relay the switches that unit from wall power to the internal battery backup inverter power. If you can plug the unit into another power source and see if the issue goes away then you know what is the AC power outlet Supply on that circuit needs to be addressed. Sorry I hope I'm not confusing you more this is the first thing I would do also I have seen the units switch back and forth like that when they see a significant voltage drop sometimes things like large printers or space heaters can cause large voltage drops trick the units into think you are losing power.

    Any way to remove the speaker?

    • @kc9cuk
      @kc9cuk  2 года назад

      Of course there is but you don't want to remove it because then you won't know if you have a problem or if your power has gone out. Power strips are very cheap so it'd be easier just to buy a regular power strip if you don't want the battery backup the work.

    So what’s the problem if I have a similar unit plugged in and working then all of a sudden usually in the middle of the night a long continuous beep blares

    • @kc9cuk
      @kc9cuk  5 лет назад

      Unfortunately it sounds like your unit is having a different issue. Without having your unit and being able to test it it's hard to say. I have had customers they have their power go off in the middle of the night only for a couple minutes and then comes back on but the unit alarm continues until they reset it. Do you unplug your unit and plug it back in and then it's fine again until it fails. I have also had customers that have units plugged into circuits in their house that have large voltage fluctuations that caused their units to misbehave and set the alarm off good luck and thanks for your comment.

    Question to anybody could I modify this by putting a larger battery into this obviously this battery would be a AGM sealed battery but instead of such a tiny little battery can I put a car battery connection modify the box so that I could have a longer run time

    • @kc9cuk
      @kc9cuk  4 года назад

      The simple answer is yes, many people extend leads to come out of the case and go to batteries in another external case to increase run time. One thing to keep in mind is all the internal components such as the inverter really only have adequate Cooling for their allotted runtime so I would not go more than twice the size battery. In my opinion a better solution would be to buy a larger UPS unit with bad batteries and modify that the smaller units are pretty Limited. Another thing to consider took extended runtime it's only plug in essential things such as the main CPU the battery Outlets and plug all nine essential things into the surge side only you can always extend one of the surge Outlets with a power strip. I find most customers have their monitors and other non-essential items plugged into the battery Outlets and that really shortens the runtime. Good luck and thanks for your comment please subscribe.

    question: why did you have the person send this unit to you when you knew all you had to tell them is 'replace the battery'?

    • @kc9cuk
      @kc9cuk  4 года назад

      Thank you for your question. The customer was advised over the phone that it was most likely the battery and they could just replace it themselves. I even offered to send them an email with instructions and a link to where they could buy the battery. In this particular case and in most cases the customer did not want to mess with it themselves they just wanted it fixed. Please keep in mind before thinking the repair shop took advantage of somebody that they are liable for anything they tell the customer over the phone. I am a small boutique repair shop so I still try to help people when I can but I do not run a charity and many times the information that is provided by the customer over the phone is incorrect and you can be giving the customer bad information and wasting their money and time. I have had customers in the past bad mouth me because I tried to help them for free over the phone and they attempted to do the repair themselves and destroyed their equipment. If I was looking to rip people off I wouldn't put up free videos showing how to do the repair.

      @@kc9cuk i see, makes total sense. let me ask you - my Cyberpower CP600LCD seems to run fine, but if we have a power outage, it doesn't do what it's expected to do. it shuts down and emits a long continuous beeeeeeeeeeeeep. I can't get a hold of anyone at CP, but from what i'm reading this signal seems to indicate the unit is overloaded. i dont see how that's possible, all i have plugged into it is my PC and a LED monitor. the unit is 2 years old, orig battery. any ideas?

    • @kc9cuk
      @kc9cuk  4 года назад

      @@noneyerbidness it sounds like it's possible your new unit needs a new battery. When you lose power the unit will beep to let you know the power is out. The fact that unit just shuts down and does not power your devices off of battery power, tells me either the battery is bad or the inverter inside the unit is not functioning properly. I would remove the old battery and check it, if the battery appears to be good and working most likely you have a defective unit. If the battery does not appear to be able to power a 12-volt device or is not showing a charge, it's most likely a bad battery. Please keep in mind it is still possible you have a bad unit that was not charging the battery properly but it is more likely that the battery is just bad good luck with your repair.
