I started doing this 30 years ago.. I still have the cut boxart of the model I built when I was a kid! They always bring nice memories…

Some people on you tube put old sprus into a blender and make tiny plastic chips that they use for rubble in terrain. 👍🏻

Oh thats a nice way to re-use the sprue leftovers👍🏻

I've seen several modelers place the boxart under the model at shows or behind it in a display case. Eduard's art is so good they even sell prints!

Just start my first build after 55 years. Not keep anything! 😂😂😂

I have a box for the instructions, one for spare weapons (I mostly build gunpla), and a few full boxes spare. Definitely going to remember this idea for any future kits so I don’t have to throw away art I want to keep. Can even reduce the space I’m using now

I also could use some spare weapon parts for aircraft, after i messed up or lost the original ones.
      Thanks for the feedback!

Like you, I keep everything except the cellophane wrappers that sprues come in and the loose boiler plate sheets of paper. I even keep the empty sprues for making sprue glue or as filler/spare parts. And I cut out the box art like you showed. On a Facebook group, I recently asked about keeping the box art or boxes and the overwhelming response was to just throw it all away. I don't follow the crowd!

Yes, i cant believe that! People on Instagram even make videos about throwing the entire box in the trash. Some scalemodelers are cold hearted😄

All box art is kept, all spare parts also. I have many folders with the front and back of boxes cut out. All spare decals in the folders along side them. I have few boxes full of spares too. Not much is thrown away. I collect. Good video, good job.

Way to go! Sounds great, having the box art together with the spare decals👍🏻

Howdy Chris, I keep unused and extra parts in “what if” boxes. What if, just for fun I want to make a “low rider” jet, with a lot of metal-flake, wild candy colors and chrome paints. White wall tires? Sure, I’ll paint some up. Or a twin engined Hawker Hurricane? The more kits I build, the more what if parts I can save for later. One of these days, I will make it happen. The things we do between kits!

Haha, i keep the spare parts for exactly the same reason! I want to build my own warbird prototype completely made out of spare parts and left overs👍🏻

Often thought about keeping the box art especially Eduard and framing it for wall art

Chris after 40 yrs of kit and figure building and painting I just can’t store all my empty boxes. I do keep spare unused parts and decals. I like the idea of keeping the art. I think I would get some clip art frames and display them in my hobby room.

Yeah with the amount of material from 40 years you have to take decisions. Cant keep everything but you can make selection of the most beautiful artworks or the vintage ones😍

I do save instructions, leftover parts, and the box art. I save only the box art if it's a worthwhile painting. I am not interested in keeping box art if it's poorly done or is a picture of a built model. I'm really only interested in the art . I have this thought that someday, I will do a montage of the best artwork in a picture frame (or several picture frames). An alternative I have considered is putting each piece of art in a plastic sleeve in a ring binder, but some of the artwork is too large for that. As for the rest of the box, into recycling it goes.
I keep the instructions for a different reason than you mentioned. Namely as a reference if I am trying to understand what some leftover part is or how it might have been intended to use in the model. This makes it useful for determining if I can use that spare part in a conversion or update to another model.
In the same vein, I catalog all my spare parts as well as separating them into zip lock bags labeled with the kit and scale . By cataloging the parts (in a spreadsheet), I can quickly see what I might have that can be useful for that conversion or update previously mentioned. By bagging them, I keep them protected and organized for easier retrieval. Model figures are kept separately because I use these in many places and I am always looking for a figure I can convert or use for a different purpose.
On a related matter, I also catalog my stash and the aftermarket parts I buy for each kit. This serves the purpose of avoiding purchasing expensive aftermarket item duplicates.
If all of this sounds somewhat nerdy, perhaps. But I personally do not like wasting time trying to find things by having to root around in a box of loose parts. If I am unable to know fairly quickly if I have something, then I am inclined to not do something that I might be able to do easily otherwise. Or I might buy an aftermarket part when I can make use of a spare part for the same purpose.

You seem to be a real expert in this! It makes me think about storing my left over parts in plastic zippers too, some are from the kit, but not all are.
And im still thinking of good way to keep track of the aftermarket and figures so i do not keep forgetting about them.
      Thanks for your feedback!

I have one big box that is bursting at the seams. So to speak.
I generally keep any sprues with useful bits on them still, especially weapons which might come in handy for similar planes. Although this has yet to happen..
And definitely decals. I never throw away any decals, unless they're bad quality. They have got me out of a hole a few times.
PS I really like your channel and your not too serious approach while still clearly being talented.
Just doing my bit for the Algorithm..

      @chrisveya7556  11 месяцев назад

Well the one parts i actually could use from the left over parts for a another build were weapon parts. But one day i will build a warbird prototype only made out of left over parts.
      Thanks for the feedback!

I'd keep the sides and backs too if the artwork is nice. Frame some of the really nice ones?

I keep extra parts as spares for future models. All the packaging gets recycled; can't keep everything.
