Every dancing Barbie movie uses real dancers to create the choreography! They really put so much effort into the making of the movies
This is really important!!!
😊
Maria Kowroski from NYCB did the motion capture for Barbie and the Nutcracker, and one of the 12 Dancing Princesses. :)
Most movies do that with complicated animations and have to use references that’s why it’s okay to use a reference
Barbie in the pink shoes and the 12 dancing princesses are my favorite!!!
For Barbie in the pink shoes, she actually needs a new pair in the beginning. So she tries on those pink pointe shoes (in which she dances in without breaking into them lol, but yeah, it's a Barbie movie lol) which are actually magic and allows her to travel to different ballet.
It's my no1 movie because of its message and this quote even became my motto "Dance is who I am"
They are magical that's why she doesn't need to break them lol.
😊
sameee
Same dance is a part of us and you have to let go and just dance this is my favorite movie I love dancing along with the music this is my favorite movie of the Barbie movies
@@isra9862 lol 😆
Her choreography feels very much like what an 8 year old would come up with. Like her execution is good, but I think we all did those big arms and twirls when we told our parents "watch me, I'm a ballerina!"
Ikr
It is a movie for approximately eight year olds, so I think it’s hitting its target audience spot on!
@Millenimorphose so is The Nutcracker one, but the choreography was way better than this
They actually used real ballerinas for reference and motion capture for the movie and animation
@@kitcat501st okay, but that has nothing to do with the choreography
I love that Josephine wants to have a pointe shoe fitting with Barbie! That makes my day! 💕😊🩰
"Barbie and the Pink Shoes" is very loosely based on the story of The Red Shoes and The Snow Queen, both by Hans Christian Anderson. In the Barbie version, Krysten gets lost in the music and dances the steps in her heart rather than the bland choreography provided. Because of constant chastisement and teasing, she loses confidence in herself until she is given the Pink Shoes. They transport her to the worlds of several classic ballets where she must dance as the lead to defeat the villains to save herself and her friend. Once back in the real world, her confidence shines through on stage in front of the talent scout, much to the chagrin of the choreographer, her rival, and her rival's bluetooth-laden father.
My studio used to paint and dye our pointe shoes for specific dances/costumes.
Ive got hot pink, turquoisy blue, red, grey sparkly, and others.
The hot pink ones were actually for a can can themed number and different girls had hot pink, cerulean blue, and lime green to match the ruffles under our skirts which were those three colors.
That's actually really freaking cool
that's really dope
My favorite Barbie movie as a kid was for sure 12 Dancing Princesses, but I remember when this one came out and I fell in love with it too! (Tbh all of the ballet ones are amazing XD) There's something still so magical about the Barbie movies, and I'm so glad you reviewed this one!
Mine was and still is The Nutcracker
Barbie of Swan Lake and Barbie in the Nutcracker were both FOUNDATIONAL for my love of ballet as a kid 😊 it’s lovely to experience them again with the Pointe Shop 💕
Same! I loved the 12 dancing princesses as well but those two were my absolute favorite. So magical ❤
Absolutely loved this and your other videos. Did you know that Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, Gwen Stacy as Spider-Gwen wears ballet slippers to highlight her abilities and strength as a dancer and the opportunity to make her move differently than the other Spider heroes. More gracefully and controlled. It’ll be amazing if you could react to it and break it down in your perspective. Thank you and wishing the best in everything!
Josephine, I've noticed that you often talk about the need for making pointe shoes in different colors. Perhaps this is something you could bring into the real world. 😊 I love watching all of your video's 😍🥰💖
Different colored pointe shoes is an awesome idea! The current ones are nice, but different colored shoes would look better with the dancers' bright & colorful costumes
"Listen to the beat of your heart" was my theme song for many years as I struggled to feel accepted in my ballet class. I was the one who always fell or forgot choreography and that song always made me feel understood.
Pink Shoes is one of the few Barbie movies I've watched repeatedly but still enjoy the premise. Kristen as the carefree go-with-the-flow ballet student, and her friend Hailey who I assume works in the costume department get transported into the world of ballet where The Snow Queen dictates how the story must go and it must be danced *perfectly*. Kristen being Kristen, she has her own ideas and The Snow Queen, much like madam Natasha, desires only perfection. Kristen is the one that's been "changing the story" and "not following directions".
I personally love this movie for the costumes and the music, and it was the Pink Shoes that introduced me to Giselle (I'm already a big fan of Swan Lake) - not to mention Kristen's big dance finale, has to be one of the best scenes in the entire movie (not to mention the song "Keep On Dancing" is just amazing
My FAVORITE Barbie movie has to be The Princess and the Pauper. The animation definitely isn't as nice as more recent movies, but I loved it!
The story was really good, the villain was hilarious, the music was amazing, and I think the themes of honesty, bravery, individually, responsibility, etc still stand up today.
I want to see cartoon Josephine walk onto the stage..."Woah woah woah girl, those shoes are breaking all wrong. You need to come with me..."
My three favorite Barbie movies are the three musketeers, twelve dancing princesses, and magic of Pegasus, but I love all of the old ones! And I absolutely love this one too! And for the context of this movie⬇️
Hailey (the costume/wardrobe person) is her best friend, and she gets taken on the adventure with her. It’s actually the bright pink shoes that are magic and transported her to the other world, and it’s one big world with a lot of different ballets in it. Kristen (Barbie) attracts the attention of the snow queen because she’s changing all of the endings to the ballets that had sad ones, and the snow queen goes after her. There’s this fight with the snow queen and Kirsten wins, then decides she’s ready to go home and takes off the magic pointe shoes.
Hope that helped a little and wasn’t too confusing 😅
Hiii Josephine! This was my favourite barbie movie in my childhood, im so happy youve seen some of the dances! I think most of the context is shown in the before-final dance against the snowqueen. This movie is about barbie dancing her own way. When her ribbon broke, she got the new pink point shoes and was taken to the (how i call it) "dance world" where she becomes Giselle, Odette and in the final, her ownself again :D You should definetly check out the battle dance, its amazing! Love you so much!
It was my favourite too 😭
Wait am I dumb or wasn’t there a scene where she danced in front of that ice queen girl?
If i remember it correctly (haven't watched it in a while) but basically barbie's character is bullied by her classmate and her teacher/director is super artistically inflexible so she's always a background dancer because she does her best work freestyle. After her slipper breaks she has to get a new pair but the only one in her size is this flashy pink pair yhe costume designer gives her but it's not appropriate for the character she's playing. She's convinced to try them on and is transported into the world of ballet where she plays the lead in three ballets : Giselle, Swan Lake and Snow Queen (i forgot to mention she knows them because she's a nerd, she auditionned for them and the performance they are practicing are those three ballets) she accompanied by the costume designer who seems to be as unaware of what's happening but is pushing Barbie to not be a doormat. She captures the heart of the prince with her daring moves that alarms the queen, who's the the snow queen who kidnapped and curses her to dance mindlessly the right way. She frees herself comes back to the real world, dances her solo in a dress the costumer made for the lead or something as she goes freestyle her dress changes into this gorgeous dress (made to sell more dolls)
Moral of the story : f*ck the establishment, f*ck the system
I'm loving all the love for Wardrobe!
Dancers, and especially ballet dancers, are so much fun to dress for. Quick changes are a dream, and they're always so open and communicative. 🖤🖤🖤
My two favorite Barbie movies are The Nutcracker (I just love The Nutcracker in any medium) and Island Princess. Island sadly has no ballet, but I would love to see it get one because the story has the right amount of drama to keep you hooked as an adult. So many things flew over my head watching that one as a kid.
About the colored pointe shoes, I think you can color normal pointe shoes using some kind of dye. For my last spring recital, my new studio made me and my contemporary ballet class dye our pointe shoes to match the color of our skin instead of our tights using foundation (mine ended up looking more orange though 😅.) I also know that my studios performing company that I just joined makes some of the dancers dye their pointe shoes black for certain roles, so I guess I’ll figure out how to do that if I get one of those roles! I wouldn’t be surprised if there are tutorials for pointe shoe dying online. One of the younger teachers at my studio has these bright teal pointe shoes that she sometimes wears whenever she takes a lower level class to stay in shape (whenever she isn’t teaching, obviously.) 😁
12 dancing princesses will always and forever be my favorite
Not sure if you've heard of it but the anime Princess Tutu is A) a Really good story but also B) completed themed around Ballet and fairytales. Also from what I understood it is animated with the correct dancing techniques. Highly recommend even if the name is silly!
The story of Barbie and the Pink Point Shoes is how she wishes that she was somebody else and able to do the performance at the end the shoes are magical but it's all about her self
My favorite ballet-themed Barbie movie was 'The 12 Dancing Princesses', I think you'd love it! I watched it every night when I was little, and it inspired me to start doing dance!
my favourite Barbie movie growing up was and still is the 12 dancing princesses. I actually wanted to do ballet when I was little but never went lol, but I started two years ago!! thank you barbie
My kid and I were obsessed with 12 Dancing Princesses but we also liked this ome a lot too. Bonding over Barbie with your 9 yr. old daughter is the coolest. 😊 She's now 20 and still remembers those times. ❤
Hi, Josephine, I loved your video, it reminded me of my favorite Barbie movies - Barbie Island princess, Swan Lake and Barbie as the princess and the pauper 🥰 Thank you so much for the inspiration to watch them again ❤
I absolutely love all the barbie movies especially all the ballet one’s. They’re not just for children but for adults who never lost their inner child 😊
This movie and the 12 dancing princess is why I do pointe and is why I’m starting to teach ballet. So glad that u like the movie
That‘s one of my fav Barbie movies!🥹🥹🥹💕
I grew up watching those movies and I am so grateful for that! ❤❤❤ My favorite movies were Oceana, (cuz I'm obsessed with mermaids) and the princess charm school.
The ballet ones were okay but when it comes to ballet i have an absolute favorite series which will never change: dance academy. I love it so much!
My favorite trope ever is the evil villain dad who loves his kid, it's just so wholesome
my kids were obsessed with the barbie movies - and for good reason! they do a great job with messaging, and the dancing is amazing.
favorite: the twelve dancing princesses
Princess and the Pauper was (and still is) my favourite Barbie film but I love them all tbh and I still own all of them on dvd
the song in the end always gives me goosebumps, is soooo beautyful
If no one has answered, I shall! Essentially, Kristen (Barbie) tends to ignore choreography and just DO what she feels with the music. Teacher is mad because they have a big showcase where the can get recruited to big shows or whatever. Kristen is told she could be the next Tara (mean girl) if she just danced like she was supposed to. Her shoes rip and she gets pink shoes from the costumer (the sister of the teacher and the girl in glasses also does the costumes and is Kristen's friend). Pink shoes transport her to a magical ballet world where the stories are real and she becomes the main character in the different ballets (Giselle, Swan Lake, the Nutcracker but she's not in it, but it's mentioned). The friend gets transported with her and is more a lot device for the audience in telling us about what each ballet is about or about the characters (and how the stories are kinda messed up lol) The whole point(e) is that "there's more than one way to tell this story," as in she doesn't need to be another Tara, she just needs to be herself.
There's more to it, but that's the whole idea.
Favorite Barbie movie: ... I like them all actually. I couldn't pick only one, honestly. I'll go Princess and the Pauper only because I really love the songs.
If you're looking for ballet movies to react to, I HIGHLY recommend The Turning Point from 1977! They do many different variations throughout the movie...Romeo and Juliet, Don Q, Corsaire, Swan Lake, Giselle...and you get to see a young Baryshnikov!
Yes! Check out 1985 White Nights movie- very inspirational 👣🩰❤
"Dance is who I am!" 🥺💖💖
Hii Josephine, I'm so happy you finally watched some of this movie. You should definitely watch the dance fight with the snow queen. The granny you saw at the end next to the wardrobe girl is the head of wardrobes and the story teller. She gave the magic pink shoes to barbie so she would get some selfconfidence. The snow queen is the ruler of the ballet world and is based on the choreographer. I really recommend you watch the whole thing, but if you don't have the time, you watch the snow queen battle.
I've been waiting for this, tysm!! 💗
literally screamed when i saw you posted this!!! such an iconic movie!!! 💖🩰
hi! I love your videos so much, Josephine!! I am going on pointe and your videos both have fun info and are very enjoyable to watch. thank you for your amazing content!
Princess and the Pauper is my favorite barbie movie. It had so many good songs.
Ohh my god this was and still is my favourite barbie movie i’m so exited to watch the video now!!
The very last bit STRONGLY reminded me of the end of Cooper's ballet from Center Stage.
Yesssss thank you thank you thank you !!!!! I love your Barbie movie reactions so much!! I grew up with all the movies 💕
8:02 after i seen this movie as a kid i wanted to be a ballet dancer and become a teacher i was so in love with the style of ballet the music, dance moves, clothes and so i asked my mom about it but something happened so i was never put into classes and as i grew older i kinda forgot about it till i looked threw my old school work my mom kept like art stuff yk and i found a note book from when i was in grade 1 i had to wright down one thing each day if it was a dream or what i did that day and the first page said "when i get older i want to be a ballet teacher" and i don't really want to be a teacher anymore but i do still want to get into classes for ballet and till this day keep on dancing is one of my fav songs aside from it being a barbie song its still great
My three favorite Barbie movies to this day are Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, and Rapunzel. Love those movies!!!
Finally ive been waiting for tjis one 🎉❤
OMG, thanks so much for reaching to this!!! This movie started my whole dance journey!!!!❤❤❤
I remember I was home alone with my stepdad the first time I saw this movie. I (like, 8 or 9 at the time) was really sad about not being able to watch it because we didn't have the DVD, but he went onto our TV and determinedly found a way for me to watch it :3 I snuggled up in my blanket and ate popcorn while I watched as he worked in the kitchen :3
Tbh this is the only Barbie movie I watched around ballet, but it reminds me how I wanted to dance it so much thanks to the movie back then. I don't do ballet nowadays, but I like to watch videos around it. I want to start practicing by watching videos, too, since I pretty much know nothing.
The 12 dancing princesses is my all time favorite from the dancing to everyone's special talent
12 dancing princesses or Rapunzel were my favorites. They both hold a special place in my heart. Swan lake is a very VERY close third
YESSSSSSS! I was one of the ones who asked on the last Barbie videos. Thank you!
I loved the barbie and the swan lake and the barbie and the 12 princess... The music in the both of these movies was my childhood when i didn't know what was ballet or orchestra music....the music just felt emotional with all the visuals nd would made me feel so good and happy

I love the analysis of the animated point shoes. 😂
*backup dancers casually following an improvised choreography*
This movie is my whole childhood and it's so good! The choreography is based off of real dancers I think, like, they used real dancers to create the choreography in the movie which is really cool

OMG THIS USED TO BE MY FAVOURITE FILM!!!
I'm actually crying so much rn this film was my entire childhood and why I now do dancing
I miss it so much😭
YAYYYYY THANK YOU SO MUCH
It’s the magic of the pink shoes
In all the Barbie ballet movies (12 dancing princesses; the nutcracker; swan lake and the pink shoes) they used motion capture. As far as I know the dancers from the first 3 Barbie Ballet movies were all from the NYC Ballet with Charles Askegard, Maria Kowroski, Tiler Peck and Abi Stafford in The 12 Dancing Princesses, Charles Askegard, Maria Kowroski, Benjamin Millipied, Nora Y. Mullman, Abi Stafford, and Janie Taylor in The Nutcracker and Charles Askegard, Ellen Bar, Maria Kowroski, Benjamin Millipied, Abi Stafford and Janie Taylor in Swan Lake. The dancers in Barbie and the Pink Shoes were Ariana Assaf, Lucia Connolly, Juri Okada and Kaylani Parks but I’m not sure which company they’re from. Hope this helps❤
Edit: Barbie and the Pink shoes was choreographed by Melissa Barak who is the Artistic Director of Los Angeles Ballet so the dancers are most likely from LAB too.
Yeah you should definitely watch it even now I find it good
this was my favourite movie growing up 😂
THIS WAS MY CHILDHOOD
My friend and I used to love this😂❤
Can’t tell you how much I need a mug of pointe shoes to see me through my day.
Barbie in swan lake encouraged me to do ballet 🫶🩰
My favorite Barbie Movie is the 12 Dancing Princesses! The whole movie is Iconic and Nostalgic!
swan lake and rapunzel were my favs growing up
I love Barbie when I was young and I still do she is amazing and inspiring
That is my fav barbie movie!
Definitely the 12 dancing princesses! I recommend watching some of theirs too😁
12 dancing princesses 💗
this makes me want to rewatch the movie (it used to be my favorite ToT)
I would love to see Josephine react to "princess tutu"! It's a cute anime about ballet ^_^
I grew up on Barbie Swan Lake, I loved it so much I taught myself the steps of the little cruetures, I think it was a skunk and a porcupine and a two others(?). And the Nutcracker, I loved all the dresses.. My friends and I regularly watch the Barbie movies, twelve dancing princesses and princess and the pauper. You should definitly watch this one though, or all of them. They bring me such joy.
I just tried out for the nutcracker bc of your videos after not doing since I was 6 and I got in the angle dance!
I just Bolshoi perform swan lake a few weeks ago 😍😍 best thing I've ever and will ever see in my life tbh
My favourites are the 12 dancing princesses and Rapunzel 😍
My favorite was actually this one 😂
