For the Zambian team, who defeated Morocco (1-2 and 2-0) in the CAF zone qualifying final, simply participating in the Olympics is a huge achievement. This is Zambia's second appearance at the Olympics, the first being in Tokyo 2020. Many consider Zambia to be the weakest team in the tournament. Interestingly, Kabange Mupopo, who played football for Zambia, also competed in the 400 meters track event at the 2016 Olympics.
Like Australia, Zambia lost their opening match of the tournament 0-3. However, against the USA, the outcome could have been much worse as they allowed their opponents to take 27 shots, 8 of which were on target.
