    Beatrice Chebet: "It's a privilege to run with her (Gudaf Tsegay)".
    That is the headline!
    As Kenyan, I teared up.
    Thanks Beatrice, thanks Gudaf.
    Together with our neighbours to the North, the Ethiopians, we have what I'd call a symbiotic relationship. Without them, there'd be no us (Kenya) and I hope the feeling is mutual.
    Last year (2023), on the same grounds, they ran the 5k and Gudaf broke the world record with Beatrice about 4 seconds adrift. These two are phenomenal!
    AWESOME!

    I wonder if the commentator didnt know chebet or was just outright trying to downplay chebet.. Chebet's 5000m pb is 14.05, a 2 time 10km world cross country champion... The 33 10000m time was run when she was just 19 years a few months after winning the u20 world cross country junior tittle and it was run in high altitude in kenya as a teenager

  • @reedsmusic7589
    @reedsmusic7589 6 месяцев назад +18

    Chebet went from being an after-thought and honourable mention to deservedly grabbing the headlines as the best ever. She held her own with a resolve of steel and struck without a hint of hesitation what so ever.
    Caption this - Chebet miraculously reduced her PB by 5 minutes which is almost how much slower her PB was from that of the much-heralded and very capable Tsegay's PB before this race. Tsegay was therefore expected to lap Chebet a few times.
    On paper Chebet was no match for Tsegay nor was she remotely even a threat to the world record!
    But she confidently hung onto the champ's coat tails and went for glory with an expertly executed coup de grace. She outdid herself! Heroic feats like these are a privilege to behold! God bless the young lady! May she translate this feat to glory in Paris!!

      @Missjj254 6 месяцев назад +2

      Her 33 minutes pb was run in high altitude in Kenya at 19 years from 4 years ago what are you saying🤦‍♀️
      Sinc then she has run 14.05 5000m, won some medals on the track for 5000m, won 2 high paced world cross country titles where she took down the former 10000m WR holder Gidey and sub 29 road 10k runners lol...

Beatrice was “floating”, preserving energy, you could see that her focus on the race while Tsegay’s facial expression says something like “can I make it to the end “ . Once Beatrice Chebet sprinted from behind, Tsegay had no chance to follow her to close the gap and challenge her but finish the race. It would be interesting to see these two talented runners in the Paris Olympic.

    Tsegay ran well but had a pained look on her face for the last 2 or 3 laps. Chebet had plenty left at the end. She's young and could easily do something special if she moves up to the half marathon or the marathon. It's by far the best she's ever run in a 10000 meters. She's still improving.

    Not sure the approach taken by the announcer is the best for the sport. Too much pressure on the runners and comments real time on the progress of the race don't sit well. Could you imagine a football game where someone goes down field for a pass and the announcer is saying "if he catches this pass it will be a first down" or "looks like Smith is not blocking the defensive end"...I realize track and field is trying out different ways of promoting the sport, but I would have been happier to hear "All of these African athletes tested negative for EPO 3 days ago"

    Fantastic race. Chebet has never run that fast before and even Tsegay, who ran a PB yet Chebet pushed past her seemingly so easily. The announcer was a bit much but truly she got the crowd excited and helped these ladies to run their best in what is a real race of endurance.

      Watch the 2023 and 2024 world cross country senior women 10km and you will know how strong and fast chebet is
      2024 XC she won in 31.05 on a cross country terrain with many obstacles, mud and bends and terrible conditions

      The pacers were all gone by 3.6 km. That's not far enough at all. They needed somebody who could pace it for at least 5 km but it's pretty tough because not very many people in the world who can even run 5 km in 14:30 ... lol.

    What's the etiquette here? Runners getting lapped making someone chasing a record go around them is annoying. Can't the slow folks move over to lane 2?
