6029 battling through Mt Victoria.

- At a rain soaked Mt Victoria, we see 6S63, headed by former N.S.W.G.R AD60, 6029, handling the excursion/support consist bound for the Bathurst steam weekend.
6029 with the accompanying diesels, 4201,4916 & 4501, put on a sterling effort through the difficult conditions after being checked up by a signal.
6029 not struggling. Running slow due to a signal check.
A 77yr old with tear in his eye. Brings back boyhood memories. Brilliant. Thanks

Usually no pushers with 6029 due to it's power. 3 diesels because it was a combined train. Supposed to be 2 separate trains but due to heavy rain & track closures both trains were combined.
So wonderful to see this amazing machine in such beautiful condition, As a kid growing up in Kenya in the 50s, we could hear the Mountain Class Garratts working hard like this, climbing out of the Rift Valley, at night the sound of their efforts and magnificent whistles would carry for miles up into the highlands.
I'd love to have been able to experience that, hearing steam putting in the hard yards.
In about 1958 I recall nearly being blown off Leura station when a double headed ~ YEs 2 Garrats were taking a coal train to Sydney WOW!
Worked on this one at the large erecting shop at everliegh as an apprentice, then went on a test up the blue mountains
Would have been an amazing experience.

Bit of a climb that? Fond memories standing on pedestrain bridge Castlerock Co. Londonderry 75+ yrs ago love the smell of steam magic memories! 😅

Shouldn't be battling with just a few passenger carri,just throttled back.

For those too young to have seen it, you can only watch this and imagine two of these on a heavy coal or freight train working at full throttle (which 6029 is not). We used to stand in awe as their exhausts went 10 metres in the air.
