  • This week we are Mixing-It-Up in the kitchen for the Academy Awards. I love to watch movies so it's a fun theme to use to make cupcakes. I'm especially excited to be collaborating again with my friend Amber from SweetAmbs-Check out her video here: • How To Make Popcorn Co...
LOOK DOWN BELOW for all the materials you'll need to make these cupcakes
    MATERIALS:
    What you'll need:
    Standard cupcakes
    Buttercream
    Serrated knife
    Off-set spatula
Modeling chocolate and red fondant (fondarific.com)
    Small rolling pin
    Vegetable shortening
    Paring knife
    Small brushes
    Yellow dust
    Clay Extruder
    Ruler
    Dish of water
    Ball tool
    Step-by-step
    1) Trim a cupcake with a serrated knife to make the shape tapered- like a bucket of popcorn.
    2) Frost the outside of the cupcake with a layer of frosting
    3) Wrap the cupcake in a thin layer of modeling chocolate
    4) Roll out a thin layer of pre-dyed red fondant and cut thin strips-approx 1/8" (to make the stripes on the side of the popcorn "bucket")
    5) Attach stripes to cupcake with water and trim the tops and bottoms.
    6) Optional: With a clay extruder fitted with the small round circle opening- push out a long rope to create a rim to the cupcake.
    7) Make the popcorn pieces: Take the modeling chocolate and roll it into different sized balls from 1/4" to 1/2"- approx. twenty pieces.
    8) Use a ball tool to indent the balls to look like kernels of popcorn, attach the different sizes together to make larger pieces of popcorn.
    9) Dust with yellow petal dust to give the look of real buttery popcorn.
    10) Lastly, pipe or spread a dollop of buttercream on the top of the cupcake and attach the pieces of "popcorn"
