These were the first name brand shoe that everyone wanted to be associated with. Doc's sneakers paved the way for Jordans, LeBrons, Kobs and ALL the other shoes sneaker heads love, RESPECT.
This is another example of Dr. J. blazing the trail for Jordan. The "Hey, Dr. J, where you get those move? Are you wearing magic shoes?" ad was the original "It's gotta be the shoes" ad.
Classic commercial do you see how quick the commercial was they didn't have to use all that time to get their point across great commercial they need to do that today as well
First basketball sneaker commercial I remember. When they came out, the white boys were wearing Winners, had 4 stripes. If you weren’t wearing Converse or ProKeds, people said you were wearing BoBo’s.
I was a high-schooler in the late 1970s and EVERYONE referred to those leather Converse as "Dr. J's". My parents bought my first pair for me in 1978 for $28. Forty-four years later and I still have them; they're resting comfortably & magnificently in my closet. 😃 Chuck Taylor aside, Michael Jordan was NOT the first sneaker brand.....and Jordan himself wore Dr. J's in his time at North Carolina. Just sayin'......
The Scoreboard at :30 was during Game 3 or 4 of the 1977 NBA Finals in Portland where the Trail Blazers won. After winning Game 5 in Philadelphia, then the Blazers returned home to finish it all off in 6 games.
There was a "Spanish" version of this tv ad "🎶 Eyy Doctor Jei… tu eres candela por que pareces que vuelas y ruedas por el aire / todos se preguntan: ¿cómo lo haces túúúúú? 🎵 Eyy Doctor Jei tu si saltas chévere…” ‘Converse el zapato de las estrellas’… it was awesome…
They sure did and back then especially. some did wondered is this dude an alien? Heard ex Laker Coach Pat Riley actually say that. In the documentary about Dr J
I wish that all TV ads were this entertaining. It certainly beats seeing Jimmy JJ Walker saying "dynomite" about overpriced ripoff Medicare supplements.

One of the coolest sneaker commercial in it's time.
Without A Doubt!!!!
Doc brought the soul to the hole!
I remember this commercial quite well in 1977.
We never called the sneakers Converse we called them DOC'S. Ask Magic and Bird, Doctor J was the perfect role model and the perfect player.

I just love this era
The 70s were glorious. And then the 80s came along & everything turned corny🤦🏽
When I was a kid, I thought wearing Dr. J Converse would make me play like him.🤣
I REMEMBER HEARING THIS ON THE RADIO AND I WAS LIKE WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was the first in my high school to wear these. Kicked ass in them constantly. I paid $32 (everything in Frisco costs more).
That’s right $32.
This commercial made me go out and buy a pair of Docs. They were only $27, mere pennies compared to the price of Jordans or the ZO2s ($495!).
Had a pair also.
$27 at that time is comparable to buying it in today's market for $175 to $180.
$27 in 1977= $115 in 2020

Magic erving
That was years later. Dr. J stood alone as a superstar in 1977.
@@vision-gc4hy Converse were call J's while Magic was in jr highschool lol
Did they say are you a member of the human race?
Yes, he's so unworldly gifted that he can't be from earth

Guys definitely do look like ballers
Id wore my hardened wrinkled up DrJ's till they fell apart!
...then I'd get a new pair and start the whole cycle again.
Uncle Joey Diaz brought me here
Pro Team or some style since rebooted
Reminds me of a scene from The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh, where he just dunks and dunks on the playground rim.
