    So good to see this review, we placed our order for this one with single engine back in February but no one had covered the single engine and we couldn’t find one to test drive, so was a leap of faith. The car’s due in November, can’t wait

      Must admit I bought the 4wd version as I thought that much power through the front wheels would be silly. However, the electronics are very clever and whilst it is a very (VERY) brisk take off it is not like a ICE engine just throwing the power at the wheels all in one go. So would have been fine. Do enjoy when your horrendous wait is over.

    In response to the lack of tactile controls, I too felt this was an issue when I first received my car. However, after getting used to the google assistant you can actually use it to set all of the settings, like temperature, fan speed, radio, heated seats etc. I now find this even better than using the tactile controls in my older cars.

    it's an electric vehicule, you'll use it everyday. Who's doing 350km / day everyday ?
    I prefer having something who makes me smile instead of a Tesla who have a good range but no as fun to see an drive.
    For my long trip i use my land rover for the kids/cat/dog. Neither Tesla or volvo are beating petrol engine for these trips.

    The AWD Twin motor is no longer available to order in the UK from September 2022 with no idea of whether or when it might return. So it is now FWD single motor only lower power and acceleration - which, to be honest, is still good and probably better suited. I don't mind that but would have liked AWD as I live rural. Same for the C40. Software update now show Apple Carplay

    I have this car and the biggest issue is the infotainment system. The speed limit display is very very often inaccurate and there’s no speed cam warning announcements. So I literally have to run apple maps simultaneously on my iPhone linked to the infotainment system using Bluetooth. Google released an update a few months ago which helped with some of the bugginess but at best, it’s a work in progress. That’s a lot of money to spend on an unfinished product! Volvo told me they expect to released apple car play “end of summer”. I’m not holding my breath….they’ve been saying that since the first XC40 EV was launched a few years ago…..otherwise great car. Oh and I’ve never noticed the suspension noise…

    • @kdasteve
      @kdasteve 2 года назад +3

      Here in the US at least, Volvo just released the update with Apple Car Play. It works plug in via USB only, not via blue tooth. Ironically, I was pining for Car Play since I got my XC40 last November, but now after using Google's system, I actually like it better. Go figure.

    • @rickiehoxton
      @rickiehoxton 2 года назад

      @@kdasteve I found Google to be buggy but it’s the inaccuracy of the speed signs and lack of speed camera warnings which I’ve struggled with. Out of interest, if you ask for Google to play a radio station by name, does it work? It doesn’t for me - so if I say “play bbc radio 2” it gets confused but it happens for any radio station.

    The only issue with this car is the double PSM motors both in front and rear, which makes it to have a pretty bad efficiency at highway speeds.
    up to 300Wh/km that is insane.
    Volvo should have used a PSM on the rear for take off acceleration (great efficiency and torque at low RPM)
    then have a 3-phase AC induction motor at the front for high speed cruising and good efficiency.
    this car range is ok in the city, but really terrible for highway only use. keep that in mind.

    Very helpful review. EV’s that have to share a platform with ICE cars are always going to be compromised but the Volvo was practical enough to start with to make it sort of work here. It's very disappointing that Volvo really don't make any "normal" cars anymore, they have gone so hard into hybrid and electric power, they basically won't sell you a car without it at least here in Ireland now and rarely anymore Worldwide.
    For example, they seem to have retired the normal S90 Worldwide, while the new version of the S60 which they only released two years ago or less is no longer on sale in Ireland...
    While you can indeed still buy a new S60 in the U.K, but it's far from cheap!
    You can still buy a V60 here, but it's a hybrid only version which costs €65,000!
    The XC40 is the cheapest car they sell here and it costs nearly €60,000! (They lists two versions of the XC40, a full electric for €58,000 and a hybrid version for €51,000)...
    The old S60 started at €35,000, while even the new S60 which came with a new engine and was seemingly raised to be a three or five series rival, rather than a Mazda 6 rival as it had been, launched at "only" €45,000 while they promised a more affordable model with a smaller engine which we never got!
    As said they've no "normal" cars left and nothing "affordable" at that 😐 .
    Looking on the UK site then, indeed you can still buy the "normal" S60, but it's up to £45,000 now, but that''s €53,000! but thankfully it's still available....
    Separately it lists an S60 recharge for £52,000 and an S90 recharge for £63,000, which are €62,000 and €75,000!
    And of course it's a damn automatic only!
    They've no cars then for less the €50,000 and no manual petrol cars you can easily get here in Ireland, I guess it's "electric or bust!" from them 😐 - Overall they must think everybody is rich! 😂
    Edit - So even if pay £45,000 or €53,000 for a "normal" S60, then pay VRT and vat for it, the website still says you've to wait 10-12 months for delivery! 😯😂

    Why not comparing it with tesla model 3 and not model y?!

    If the XC40 Recharge had 400 miles of range, it would certainly give Tesla a headache. Range anxiety is real thing. As it is, sorry, I love you Volvo, but the XC40 Recharge is an also-ran.

    Volvo themselves have produced a report that shows the production of an XC40 Recharge produces far more CO2 than its petrol equivalent. So much more in fact, that they estimated that it would take the average XC40 Recharge driver somewhere around 9 years to mitigate that extra amount of 'harmful emissions'. This, I assume, can be read across to all EVs.........So what is the point of these things?

      Because after 9 years they work out better for the environment, and almost all cars last longer than 9 years. Also I assume part of those CO2 figures is the production of the car. Once countries transition to renewable energy, some of those emissions will be eliminated. Same when you charge the car too.

      @@CharlieGB03 It's doubtful whether an EV battery will have any useful range left after 7, let alone 9 years. Therefore, it's a new battery or a new car....and the whole process starts again!

    • @CharlieGB03

      @@malph9216 You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Cars such as the Nissan Leaf can be over 10 years old and are still using the original battery pack because it’s still working. Reliability in EVs is much better than in petrol or diesel cars as there are fewer moving parts which could go wrong. Range does decrease as the car gets older, but not by a huge amount. Just watch the owner’s reviews and you’ll see.

    just a simple quality thing I think looks like garbage is that you can see the joining line on the "shifter" ... it would take so little work to make that invisible. Yet it is there. And that makes me really distrust the entire design of this car. You also see it in the start stop button, just being covered, instead of being properly dealt with. They would have just left the start stop button there which would be fine. Instead they end up with this half-assed UX. What a shame. Not buying this car.
