    This is encouraging. I had a miscarriage with my 1st pregnancy (singleton) at 16wks6dys, but it had been a live birth, and they did not know what the cause was - especially since everything was normal at my doctor's appointment the day before (though they had not checked my cervical length). The doctors in the new state I live in suspected an incompetent cervix and have been checking my length around every 2 weeks since 14 weeks. I found out 2 days ago that my cervix had shortened significantly at 21 weeks. Had the cerclage placed yesterday. My doctors are not too sure of the efficacy of cerclages for twin pregnancy, but they said that it's my best option. My husband and I are praying that we make it to 37 weeks with no complications. I'm so grateful that it presented when it did, because if my appointment had been this coming Tuesday instead of last past Friday, they would have not put in the cerclage because they do not do it at 22 weeks here in SC.

      Could you tell me what obgyn group you have? My daughter lives in SC. She’s at 21 wks with twins. Her cervix is funneling down and thinning (now at 1 cm). I am researching cerclage as her last hope but her present specialists are against cerclage. Only offered complete bedrest/progesterone. I say do everything you can! Thank you and you will be in my prayers as well🙏❤

      Thank you so much for your reply, Magnolia! Two days after asking about your medical group, my daughter told me her ob/gyn had actually sent her to MUSC for a consultation!!
      Her twins are thriving but she’s now beginning to dilate. The group there explained the success rate of the current studies done w/cerclage and recommended it to her and she’s having it done today. I’m so thankful she was sent to MUSC because not everyone in maternal/fetal medicine is as aware that cerclage is as successful for twins, as it is for singletons. From my own research, the studies dating back to 2019 consistently prove this. Finding a medical group aware of this shift in consensus is the real hurdle now.
      My daughter’s being sent to MUSC, along with they’re encouragement to do this, was the prayer confirmation I had asked for and what she and her husband needed to make their decision. Your story and reply further confirmed this, so you too are an answer to my prayers, as I believe this to be a lifesaving procedure.
      I’ll be flying to SC from PA to help her while on bedrest, so you will be on my mind and heart as things progress down there. God is faithful to help us through whatever we face. He used the couple in this video sharing their experience and then you, in order to connect, confirm and encourage me. There are many others out there in this same situation, searching for help. I pray they too are directed to this video & comment section and discover the hope cerclage has to offer them. We may even cross paths at MUSC, when you and my daughter deliver your precious babies. It wouldn’t surprise me a bit because His timing and purposes are always perfect🤗!
      I wish you, your twins and family all the best and know what a great mother you are even now, as you’re already doing everything you can for them. Motherhood is a high calling and God has entrusted these souls to you. He will then also continue to guide, comfort and provide all that you need to see you through this. May Jesus continue to watch over you, Magnolia and your two precious babies💐🙏🥰…

      @magnoliadjholmes247 Год назад

      @Lucy L Wow! I'm glad she was able to have it done. My husband, himself, had found a study from 2020 that pretty much showed how good it is for twin pregnancies. I, too, wonder if ob-gyns are aware of that study.
      That's definitely a blessing, because I was told that if I had started to dilate, they would not do the cerclage, so thank you for sharing the good news! I pray that everything goes well with your daughter being on bedrest, which makes sense for her. We may cross paths - prayerfully in 14-15 weeks :-). God bless!

      look, the medical data shows that neither progesterone nor cerclage help to keep the twins (works in singletons though). You don't have lack of progesterone with twins (from two eggs) - two placentas are producing enough of progesterone anyway. I actually was fighting against the progesterone at my 18 weeks when they found out about my shortening cervix and a week after a real bed rest (very slow walking around, 12 hours a day in bed including night sleep), nothing heavy to carry and a must have bandage it had 'grown' back. All I can tell on my twin pregnancy experience that a slow motion life style and absolute necessity of a bandage from week 12 at least (if you are skinny, even earlier, when it just starts showing) would help to keep the babies.
      When you are pregnant again from day one you know about it just stop all of your usual sport activities, do only yoga for pregnant, no lifting anything heavier than a book (2-3 lbs max) and carry yourself as a crystal vase and walk twice slower than usually. It is an awful experience IMHO but you want your babies, right? Let your husband do the home work or hire a help. All what you need is good diet and slow motion life. Good luck!

    I'm 19 weeks pregnant with twins and my doctor has advised for a cervical cerclage as a precautionary measure (because of the twins). I don't have any problem of a short cervix or my cervix opening up. I'll be going for the procedure tomorrow and I'm super nervous and frankly terrified. I've never had stuff like this done before. I don't know how much it's gonna hurt. And worst of all, I'll be put on bed rest which I just don't want to. I want to stay active, go out, and also thought of starting with some pregnancy exercises. But I can't do any of those :(((

    1) must have bandage from week 12 (as soon as slightly showing, especially if you are skinny)
    2) moderate bed rest and slow motion life style
    3) carry nothing heavier than a book
    4) don't bend over for anything and try not push on your belly in any way
    5) pelvic rest. No sex whatsoever.
    Grew my cervix back within a week. Before that I was actively walking up the hills, wouldn't do that mistake again.
    There are studies show that many women have shortened cervix at week 18 but it can grow back if you have a head on your shoulders.
    Neither cerclage nor progesterone keep the twin pregnancy. There are studies for that. When you do everything and it worked - it is a typical survival's mistake. A pregnant woman should carry herself around as a crystal vase.

    A cerclage is never indicated for multiples. The limited research that’s been done regarding cerclages in multiple gestations actually shows that a cerclage can increase the likelihood of preterm birth. For every story like this, there are others with a negative outcome. This story is similar to someone being saved by *not* wearing a seatbelt during a severe car crash. Sure, it happens, but it doesn’t mean it was a good idea or would be repeatable on a regular basis.

      Don't be so negative. Mothers will do any and everything to save their child. If there is a chance for life we will take it! Mothers its possible. Find a medical team that lives with the same convictions and determinations. Miracles happen everyday and they are not in short supply.

      I don't think you realize that the baby will definitely be lost if nothing is done. When your options are between cerclage or previable delivery, I think most parents will take their chances with the cerclage.

    • @tonyharper4966
      @tonyharper4966 3 года назад

      @@monkiram no, I absolutely understand that a cerclage is never indicated for multiples. You will hear about the successful outcomes, but like I said, for every “success”, there are more losses caused by a cerclage.
      People feel very strongly about this because of personal experience. If you had a high risk twin pregnancy and you got a cerclage and ultimately had a healthy pregnancy, then you will swear the cerclage saved your babies’ lives.
      If you got a cerclage and lost the babies, you will never accept that the cerclage could have helped cause the loss because then you would have to accept that you may have contributed to the lost pregnancy. Instead, you’ll pat yourself on the back and say you did everything you could, but it just didn’t work.
      Statistically, cerclages in multiples are harmful, not helpful. That is medical fact.

    • @monkiram
      @monkiram 3 года назад +2

      @@tonyharper4966 What I am trying to explain is that if you don't do cerclage, there will certainly be a miscarriage. So the options are between a procedure that is high risk or doing nothing, and doing nothing means certain death of the fetus
