      Barry Watt it's a funny thing about calling it the "shetlands" I wouldn't lose sleep over it.. People up here will just politely correct you, technically it is the Shetland Islands but its only natural people abbreviate it to "the Shetlands"

    I get the impression Shetland to UK is the same as Newfoundland is to Canada. They both are isolated from the mainland. have their own atmosphere that's separate from the rest of the country. I have never been to Shetland but I loved Newfoundland

    • @southspearmedia
      @southspearmedia  7 лет назад +1

      I suppose there are similarities then! I can say you would love the place if the weather plays ball. Shetland is a well separated from the mainland of the UK and there is little around us. The industry is really based on fishing and there are some oil developments but on the whole, you'll struggle to find cleaner water and/or air. The wildlife can be amazing and there are lots of interesting things stopping by on their annual migrations so we get to see all sorts of cool things! The landscape is a little like Norway but it is pretty unique with some of the biggest sea cave systems around (not brave enough to fly through them yet).

Very nicely put together, excellent photography and a nice choice of music. I went looking for that music but have been unsuccessful. Are you able to let us know where to find it, or who is the author?

    • @southspearmedia
      @southspearmedia  7 лет назад

      Hi there, thanks very much for your comments! I've got a lot to learn yet but I am spoilt for things to film/photograph up here. I'm gathering footage for this year's version but the Orca's are dragging their heels a bit this year.....
      The first track is "The gold lining" and the second is "Murmur". Both are by a band called "Broke for free" and can be downloaded for free from freemusicarchive.org/
      I had other ideas for music but you're limited with copyright claims on RUclips so I went with these and I am fairly happy with the result. If I knew I could break even I would pay money to use copyrighted music but sadly this is going to be a hobby for a while yet!
      Don't leave it too long before you're back!

    How many flights in total to make this Vid? how many charges, how many Batteries? which Drone DJI PRO? whats your range? some very saleable Shots here, I worked in Sullem Voe in 1978 it was hell for £300 a week

    • @southspearmedia
      @southspearmedia  5 лет назад

      Woah..I dont think I've been hit with so many questions in one comment before :)
      How many flights in total to make this Vid? - Thats about a summers worth of flying. thats not all the footage captured over Summer, just the stuff I used for the video. I cant say what it breaks down to in actual flights. I keep flight logs now but much of that footage was shot prior to getting my commercial permissions.... but probably a lot!
      how many charges, how many Batteries? - No idea (see above).
      which Drone DJI PRO? - Most of that footage was shot with a DJI Phantom 3 Pro. Now I use a combination of Inspire 2 & x5s camera, Phantom 4 Pro and a Mavic 2 (hasselblad). I probably use the Mavic 2 more than anything else its just so portable and the camera is very, very good for the size of the package.
      whats your range? Law states never beyond line of sight of 500m horizontally (whichever comes first). However the DJI gear will comfortably exceed 3.5km (apparently)...really your ability to fly back with the battery you have remaining is your limiting factor, not transmission/reception if you have clear LOS.
      And thanks, I sell a lot of footage now....It pays for new gear and batteries!

      Nick McCaffrey thanks, I have checked, beautiful place, haunting a bit but beautiful nonetheless. Can I ask you what drone you've used. I have bought one for €200 euro and it didn't even fly once. 🙄 😀

      Harlock2day I'd say your very unlucky to have spent that much and have no joy with flights. I swear by DJI's stuff (phantoms, mavic Pro, spark mavic air) you can't really go wrong especially if you get the DJI refresh too. This was shot primarily with my phantom 4 pro but I have a mavic Pro too. You'll get a good deal on a phantom 3 Pro on ebay (I'd pay around £30p to £400)but buying second hand comes with its risks especially if you don't know what to look out for. I'd recommend the Mavic Air if you were looking at a new drone to get into the hobby, but you'll be around £700 (UK pound sterling).

      Nick McCaffrey thanks Nick, I had been doing films and shorts up to say 12 years ago so now I want to get back into it and it's all digital. I bought a cheap drone to learn how to use it and get into it thinking that when I buy a proper one I'll pass the cheap one to my son to play with. Yes DJI sounds best, I think mine was from a company called Tiger but I wouldn't swear on it. It is fully kitted with screen and remote control but I think I clipped one the the wings and it's not starting again. Delicate things.😀

    It's kinda funny Shetland is the name of this island because of the word "shet".
