  • Light therapy uses artificial light to mimic sunlight. Research shows it can help with seasonal affective disorder (SAD), jet lag, sleep disorders, etc. Use code DRJO15 to get 15% OFF a Carex Light Therapy Lamp at: shrsl.com/2j967 (affiliate link)
    The intensity of the light therapy lamps is recorded in lux, which is a measure of the amount of light you receive. For SAD (which is a type of seasonal depression that occurs at certain times each year, usually in the fall or winter) the typical recommendation is to use a 10,000 lux light box at a distance of about 16 to 24 inches (41 to 61 centimeters) from your face for maximum effectiveness.
    Light therapy is also best when done for 20 to 30 minutes, usually in the morning on a daily basis.
    The lamp I’m using in the video is the Carex Day-Light Classic Plus Bright Light Therapy Lamp. It’s a full-spectrum sunlight lamp that provides 10,000 lux of light on the high setting.

    Love your channel! I've gotten so much good info over the years. I purchased a therapy light this past March. I've suffered from SAD for years. As far back as my childhood. I love Winter and I love to take long walks in the cold, however every year I can feel the depression come over me. My doctor suggested I try it. When the time changes and we are getting less daylight hours I will start. I'm going to try it every morning for 20-30 minutes while I'm putting on my makeup and fixing my hair. I'm hoping this works. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

      @@talhahm8 I think it works great. I only use it if I know I'm not going to get enough vitamin D that day. If it's raining or very overcast. I simply set it up and have it on for a minimum of 30 mins. I'll read or work on a puzzle with it shining beside me.

    You do have to follow manufacturer's recommendations for how far you sit away from the light to get the 10000 lux.

    I just bought that very lamp. Every morning the first thing I do is wash my face and apply sunscreen. Now I wonder will the sunscreen block the light rays or does it even work through the skin? Maybe it works through the eyes?? Thank you for your channel. It's great!

      Bright light therapy works by hitting the retina. There are other types of light therapy like red light therapy which may be different.

    This question is wholly unrelated to this video. Back in 2016 I "obliterated" my shoulder. The humeral head was broken cleanly off of the shaft. When healed after surgery, I began physical therapy to gain strength and mobility in my shoulder. Unfortunately, I lost my job late in 2016 and with it, my health insurance. I haven't had physical therapy in almost 4 years and I don't have full range with my shoulder. I'm positive I would have had much better range today had I continued the therapy. My question to you is this: Is it too late after nearly 4 years to gain any more range?

    Not sure if this brand uses the same technology as the light box I got for Christmas, but I ended up not being able to use mine because the instructions say not to if you have macular degeneration or if it runs in your family, and unfortunately it does run in mine. Just wanted to point that out for safety sake.

    I just got a my first light box today because I've had really severe SAD for years (and when I say bad, I mean that the Crisis Textline has to talk me down at least once a week during the Winter). So after both my GP and my psychologist both agreed light therapy might help, I got the light box, and I'm REALLY hoping it helps. I'm kinda concerned because my my light sensitivity, but we'll see. The tech support people were very knowledgeable and said to discontinue use if there are side effects or too much discomfort, so clearly they care more about the health of the people using it than just getting money.

    I have a confusion whether is it something bad or its just TMD.
    My symptoms are pain in the left jaw mostly while opening or pressing it by my teeth. A slight poping sound while closing or opening the jaw. And mild headache that comes and goes. Pain also occurs sometime in the ear region and in neck as well. And my left eye vission is very slightly blurry on seeing far away objects. Instead of these iam perfectly alright. And the pain which occurs is very less to prevent me from my daily routine.
    Hope you see it and clarify my question.

    Can it cause skin cancer? Is there a max use time?

    • @carexhealth
      @carexhealth 3 года назад +1

      No, it can't cause cancer. The right light therapy lamp features a light diffuser that blocks harmful UV rays. The Day-Light Classic Plus blocks out 99.9% of harmful UV so it is safe. In terms of usage, we recommend using it for 20-30 minutes each day. There is no max use, but some people that are more sensitive to light have said it's kept them up at night because they've used it later in the day. Hope this helps!
