One of the few modern hymns that can stand up with the best. Solid meaning.
Written in early 1860s, Spurgeon included it in “Our Own Hymn Book” in 1867.
Charitie Lees Bancroft, but yes, I looked it up and right enough, mid 19th century. Explains a lot. Wonder why it only became popular more recently, at least where I'm from?
'In Christ Alone' I feel like is a modern hymn which holds up. So does 'How Deep the Father's love for Us'

I have never been to Grace Community Church, but I love listening to hymns sung there. John MacArthur is one of the most down to earth, gifted preachers I have ever listened to! Lord willing, I hope that he is here until the rapture, though I have no idea when that will be.
john macarthur`s solid teaching n warnings against errors found in today`s teachings i have no doubt has saved many who heed those warnings , including myself!! n the truths contained in the hyms sung at his church have totally influenced my bible studies, devotions. thank you, Pastor.

I love hearing the congregation sing! This is probably closer to what Heaven will be like vs the modern worship bands with a main singer blaring through the speaker system...imo..

Ask him to heal your broken soul. Do you believe he can do this for you? He is doing it a thousand times as we speak.
Look beyond yourself my brother. Look up to Him and the greatness of who He is. He is never mad or disappointed when you fail because He knows we are utterly worthless without Him.
Ask Him to make you willing to cut off anything in your life that is not of Him. Ask Him to make you a good and faithful servant. Ask Him to heal you, to bless you, to do anything He's ever done for anyone in the Bible. All of these are yours for the asking, but you must believe.
My Christ's Love, Encouragement and Mercy be with you until the end.
